More like super patriotic and xenophobic, but very strict and self controlled about it. Not so much "Everyone else must die" , and more "we must rely on ourselves and not trust outsiders".

Prideful nationalist that cannot accept/trust forces or individuals being greater than his homeland or helping said homeland without completely committing themselves to said homeland. The more powerful they are, the less trustworthy they are since only the homeland should be allowed to prosper so greatly. He doesn't deny their power or skill, only their intentions and ability to keep to their word.

So....actual idiots then. Openly hostile to an entity that is multiple orders of magnitude mire powerful than you are. The only real reason you survive at that point is because you don't matter to that entity in the slightest. It really isn't political savvy or actual usefulness - it's the fact that the THING across from you exerts more effort holding back a fart than they would need to remove all you love from the history books.
