Hey gang,

Here's a rejected thumbnail for my last video "20 songs that doomed iconic bands".

Still in Sweden, the visa renewal is moving slowly so I'm processing what I wanna do with new styles of videos, what thumbnails to use etc. Def wanna try to merge the music making part of my life with the video making.

Hope you're all well and PLEASE share any more thoughts you have on videos with music making in them. Appreciate ya!

That’s soo coool Joel and great idea for the video! Hope you’re having a nice time in Sweden 😊

Cas

Not sure why you rejected that! Just enjoy Sweden while you are there. I'm all out of suggestions. The form broke I believe.

Becky Lorion

Visa renewals are always such a pain! Hope you’re enjoying your time home though 😊

Shauna

Hopefully the renewal happens soon! Gotta love waiting 🙃 As far as video ideas…i do like a mix of the process but i always like seeing vocals being recorded. Maybe add some snippets of that into them too? Idk lol

Gayle

Joel you also learned production, right? Is it possible to discuss some aspects, basic, on layering(not sure on tech term) where the instruments are added to voice tracks. Something like that, not just the type of chord, key used and major, minor keys/chord. All that is very interesting, but please keep sharing your expertise. It's never boring....unless you use a too technical term. Thank you, hope all is well with you. 😘😘❤️❤️

Sofie G

Song writing using ai, when? And some thoughts on its implementations/limitations👍

Lianne Conroy

That thumbnail is great. If you want to jump on a trend, I have seen a lot of videos reviewing viral TikTok products. Or things Instagram recommended to me. But like you can make your reviews into songs? And the video would be you trying the products?

CK DeP

Has your Visa been slow before? Also, I would've loved to see that thumbnail , Wondering why it got rejected lol I can't get into the suggestion form? What do I do? @Roomie

MediocreAtBest

Enjoy the rest of your stay in Sweden and 🤞 the visa renewal goes smoothly. All these mentions of NSYNC makes me think a 90s boy band style song writing vid would be very very fun :D Maybe add the form back into the community tab here or something to make it easier to collect some ideas? The form on the old post was closed or broken the last time I tried it. TY for the updates!

Clair (Teampanda)

You look lovely on the last video btw, was it a hair cut, the fresh Swedish air or something else? The thumbnail is too cool for YT, Mr Beast and Ali A are to blame for the block colour, shocked face thumbnails it's about time for a change up! Are you allowed to put the logos on thumbnails? Last time I tried Warner Bros copyright striked my account, but then they also didn't like the 3 second content (literally a gif) I had in the video too, I thought it was O.K under fair use policies and putting an acknowledgement in the description? Anyhoo the form isn't working, otherwise I was going to write my comments in there.

Ooh I have an idea! How about, instead of reviewing other people’s song mashups, you can make a video creating a couple of your own? Could be fun. Mull it over.

Clair (Teampanda)

Oh I forgot to mention... KSI reddit page last month was A.I KSI, I've added links to some of the tracks and his video. JJ looked mortified when he realised A.I was progressing to this level! https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=3fQXhOS9DCI&feature=youtu.be https://youtu.be/qkscKEv3s50 (02:15) https://www.reddit.com/r/ksi/comments/1493o5n/kun_faya_kun_one_of_bollywoods_best_songs_in_ksis/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button A couple of people have used AI to create songs, based on KSI songs but in his voice. OK they are cringe (but funny) but the scary thing is, to someone who doesn't know KSI songs or just isn't listening attentively enough, you'd think it was KSI. Would it be worth doing as a video where you explore how close you can get A.I to an artists vocals??

Genevieve

Not sure if you're asking for more thoughts on video because you didn't get anything in your excel doc, but the link to submit things was not working, so that would be why 😅

Hayley

Yeahhh, think you do need to update the thumbnails lol. This one works but I'd say it just needs to be a bit more colourful and eye-catching. I liked the video but you seemed a bit...less giddy than usual, a little less Joel. Anyway, hope you're good, keep it up, enjoy Sweden and I look forward to more content x

Dannielle O'Neill

Changing up thumbnails a tiny bit isn't a bad idea. Just enough to grab the attention. Logistics and admin is a pain, but ik you like to stay on your stuff...enjoy the fam in the mean time tho. As far as music making and videos, I personally like to hear whatever goes on in your big brain. I wonder doing something as a series rather than trying to cram it all into one video would allow for a little more fleshing it out.

Marioni

It would be fun to try music genres that are very far out of your comfort zone. Maybe find an opera/metal/country/whatever singer and follow a day in their life, learn what they do and at the end perform or make a song in that style. Maybe more videos with imput from viewers. Create the national anthem of Roomania. I always like to see the process of you making the songs as well, not only the finished product. Just some random ideas 😄 Hope you enjoy your stay in Sweden!

Oh yeahhh— how could I forget?! I’m such a buffoon! …Well, umm, do it again then? 🤷🏽‍♀️😆

Cas

We know you would cringe but Grace and I were discussing on Reddit about you creating a version of the TikTok trend where you would write songs for the drive thru server, the grocery checker, maybe roof boy (Avery) etc. And sing them to surprise them in the outside world. It would be songwriting and performing and TikTokable. And, a challenge.

CK DeP

Wondering why thumbnail got rejected. Also, I did know about the video form but for some reason it doesn't/didn't work for me at all. Has your Visa been slow before? Enjoy your vacation in Sweden! 🇸🇪

Annelies
>>111054358

I also thought he was a little bit different, more relaxed or serious, but that isn't a bad thing, just less Joel. I thought it may be because of his grandpa

Aubrey Danielle

Could you sprinkle in the “making a song in one hour challenge” type of videos? Maybe twitch audience can help with topics or ideas Or “making a song in the style of “insert artist” (like Charlie Puth or whoever) Also, what you did with sound bites from fans on IG was really cool! 🤗But maybe show some of the process of making & recording those…like it would have been funny to see/hear your reaction to those voice notes…that way it could be longer of a video… like: -Intro saying you’re gonna make 3 songs from 3 fans sound bites -Then show your reaction to hearing them -talk about what you’re thinking for the song idea & your starting process -then show final song & move on to the next fan Also, what do you like to watch??? What gets you inspired and excited to create?? Let your passion lead the way, you’re a creative👌🏻🙌🏼

Rainbowz Grace

Lookin very shocked in that thumbnail! 😂 (I think you look shocked in all of your thumbnails though lmao) Hope you’ve been enjoying your time in Sweden! Cas has mentioned an idea we were discussing but I’ll still be thinking about more possible video ideas other than the extremely painful sounding one that we discussed lol As others have said, the form didn’t work for me the last time I checked btw!

Annelies

In songwriting videos I like it when you show (part of) the process, how the song gets it form and grows. You can do it as a mini competition or as a 'group assignment'. Let someone write lyrics and someone else write music for it or make it together from scratch.

Jen 🦙

Hope the renewal process doesn’t take too much longer for you but, in the meantime, I hope you’re enjoying being back with your family! 😊 Have you considered writing and recording an entire song in reverse and seeing what the end result would be? It could get very chaotic but could also turn out really good 😁

Brandt

Hope you can enjoy your stay in Sweden and not be to stressed about the visa process. So I wrote a whole essay under your last post 🙈, I think it was the 90th comment. Not sure if you’ve seen it but it’s there.

Bookdragon 43

Love the thumbnail picture!!💗 Hope the visa renewal process goes smoothly. Video ideas - deep dive into Paramore( your favorite songs). I would like to learn more about different styles of music such as EDM, Indie Rock, Punk, Dubstep, House Music, Trance/Techno, and Indie Pop. You could give an overview of the style and then list bands in that type of music. Hope you enjoy time with your family in Sweden!!😊

xtina 🖤

hope you are enjoying Sweden! You look good! i like the aesthetic of the rejected thumbnail lol. honestly when i first started binging your channel..the thumbnails made me not want to click.. but i knew i’d end up liking it lol- the shocky faces and celeb faces on things- i guess are just standard professional youtuber thumbnails- so i guess gotta play the game lol but they make me cringe a little

emy

I wrote you a couple of essays on the last post too! Sorry, I can’t resist. But to add another brainstormy, half-formed thought… If you show us a lot of inspiration and story (as others have mentioned), then it gives non-musicians an “in.” Because everyone in your audience has taste and ideas and personal stories, but we don’t have the skill to execute on the level that you do. It would combine the strength of your relatability with the strengths of your songwriting and production. And maybe a way to bring us with you more fully in your creative process. Also if you involve your audience in the idea-generation stage, you wouldn’t really need to give up control because I think we’d expect you to take a certain amount of artistic license if our input sucked ass

emy
>>111055330

National anthem of Roomania! 😂 It would probably be just burps

Stephanie Bruso

I can see why you used another thumbnail. It doesn’t even show what the video is even about. It lists a lot of bands and you. Hopefully, the department of homeland security will approve your visa soon. I can only imagine how back up they are. America having problems with immigration right now (I will leave it at that; I will not respond to any comments that to argue with me on that). I’m thinking about the time that Jack, Daniel, and you had the hot wings challenge. That got over a million views. I think you need to make these song writing videos are entertaining as possible. I actually watched that hot wing challenge more than once. Your audience is not use to this kind of content. When you make a songs out the DMs, I’m sure there were so many people, including me, that felt left out. I’m not sure why you want to keep pushing this content.

JustSomeJK

I hope you have a great swedish midsummer, if u stay there for it 🙂 I might have to come back about the video ideas... if something comes to mind, right now I've got nothing.. Really liking the fact that u are planning on bringing more music making into your videos though! 🙂

Melissa Rogers
>>111052530

I love this idea, Gayle!! 😁🙏🏻🥰 I’m sad the course didn’t turnout the way he invisioned, and is currently on the back burner. 🥺😢 Some of my favorite Roomie videos are when Joel “nerds out”, and we can see his passion for music and what he does!! 💙💛

Melissa Rogers
>>111054358

It _could be_ partly because of his uncle’s passing, partly because he’s the only one of his siblings who isn’t married…could be a number of other things as well. Maybe he was just having an “off day”, and it had nothing to do with anything listed above. Only Joel knows. All I know is, I’m still going to click that “Like” button for him (at the beginning of the video), and sit back and enjoy anything he posts. 😁😁

Melissa Rogers
>>111055068

(Bottom paragraph…) I love this idea, Dannielle!! I know that he’s put his course on the back burner, but, maybe (on one of those new channels he mentioned), he can still do the course. By way of doing it as a series?! I also enjoy hearing about what goes on in his Big Brain…learning from Joel is never boring!! Imho!! 😁😁

Melissa Rogers
>>111055330

Or farts, or dad jokes!! 😆😜 But, isn’t “Just For You” (by Lil’ Pitchy), already Roomania’s national anthem?!

Melissa Rogers
>>111079484

I like your “brain stormy, half-formed thought” process/idea, Emy!! Sounds like it has some good potential. 😁😁🙏🏻🙏🏻

emy
>>111079484

Thanks Melissa! Hope you’re having a good one ☺️

Melissa Rogers
>>111052662

@DannielleO’Neill Joel does have more swagger than he gives himself credit for having. Although, I’m with you…I refuse to miss out on any of Joel’s baltering!! It makes my heart happy!!

Melissa Rogers
>>111087517

I wonder how long it’s been since Joel has been home (in Sweden) during their Midsummer holiday?!

Melissa Rogers

I vote for another “Swedish Week” type of video!! Maybe you can have your parents and both siblings join you in teaching us: how to speak Swedish, how your family celebrates midsummer…anything!!

Melissa Rogers

I really like this rejected thumbnail, btw., Joel!! It’s something a bit different than how your thumbnails usually are. Don’t get me wrong, I love Rikard’s designs, as well as those of your other thumbnail artists!!

Dannielle O'Neill
>>111055068

Thinking about this more, I think specifics would depend on what part of the process your enjoying right now. You can just do whatever you want without it needing to be so formal. I'd watch them all anyway. (And then you could have a playlist :) )

Dannielle O'Neill
>>111052662

Despite disagreement from the discord...I can see the vibe... But we're definitely veering from the point of making the music. lmao

JustSomeJK
>>111087517

Hopefully he hasn't missed too many 🙂 I think midsummer in Nordic countries is the best with the nightless night and nice foods and other stuff. The swedish midsummer is quite cute with people dancing to a song Små grodorna (Little frogs) around the midsommarstång (pole with flowers and leaves) 😁

Roomie
>>111054358

I had my own voice in my headphones so I didn’t wanna get as loud as usual lmao

Roomie
>>111085682

This was so negative it actually brought me down in mood. Please consider how you phrase things. I’ve had many successful songwriting videos over the lifespan of my channel. Sorry you felt left out but that’s the nature of not getting to everything. Please be nice and consider that I’m a person trying my best.

Stephanie Bruso
>>111085682

That wasn’t my intention. I’m very sorry. I was trying to help you. I said the hot wings challenge was very good and you should more of that. I love the song “Burn” and makes me sad you didn’t like it. Honestly I think you should have won. You’re my idol and didn’t mean to make you upset. You’re right I didn’t phrase that the best way. I have been struggling with depression lately. I promise I will do better.

Stephanie Bruso
>>111085682

I didn’t mean to. I was not trying to be disrespectful. Joel is painting me out to the bad guy here and it’s very frustrating.

Adina

Yay for more videos filmed with the better lighting/ camera quality. Hope you get to spend more time with your family, especially the little ones.

Dannielle O'Neill
>>111054358

You do realize it's what we listen to all the time...yes? 🎧 Lmao 🤣 (I found the nifty little 🔉 button 😉). Always happy to hear from you. ❤️

Stephanie Bruso
>>111085682

I have been nothing but nice and kind and respectful. I have watched every single one of your videos, listen to your music, did projects for you, talk to you at your M&Gs, gave seven ideas for a videos, bought your merch. Why are you treating me like this? You’re literally embarrassing in front of everyone. I don’t understand. Do you want to say “yes king” to everything or do you want my honest opinion? I know you’re stressed out and your taking it out on me and I trying to tell myself that you don’t mean it.

Clair (Teampanda)
>>111085682

Stephanie just stop and breathe! Your comments sometimes come across as abrasive and curt. This isn't an attack at you, it's merely an observation of your writing style, which can be misinterpreted. Joel gave you his opinion on what you wrote, that's how it made him feel. He wasn't being mean, singling you out, or picking on you, he just asked that you think about how you word your messages in future. I'm sure he appreciates all the support you have given him over the years, he doesn't expect you to do anything other than enjoy his content. I can tell you now he doesn't want "yes men" I've told him honestly what I think and he's questioned it when he's intrigued as to why my take on things is different. Please just take a step back and breathe, don't say anything that you will regret because you've made this much bigger in your head than your first response.

Hayley
>>111054358

Fair enough 😂 I imagine the infamous bark laugh directly in the earholes could be somewhat disturbing 😂

Dannielle O'Neill
>>111099952

Idk...I don't think anyone would want that...Especially no more content with his mom...nobody liked those...😏* *Sarcasm Cam* * 🤣🤣🤣 So, it's clear...I loved that video.

Clair (Teampanda)
>>111052887

A Patreon whip round kind of money or big bucks? I'm all for increasing the Patreon amount if it includes "A special form to tell Joel what to do!" 😜

Stephanie Bruso
>>111085682

He is embarrassing me in front of everyone and he doesn’t even care about it. I feel so embarrassed.

Stephanie Bruso

Of course to afraid to respond to me haha

Stephanie Bruso
>>111085682

He is embarrassing me in front of everyone and that’s not fair. He knows I was not being disrespectful

Stephanie Bruso

I’m trying to apologize to you and yet you don’t care. You never did care about me at all

Stephanie Bruso

Thanks for putting me a mental breakdown I have no friends and no one to talk to

Dannielle O'Neill
>>111085682

I really think you need to take the advice that has been given above and take a step back. Take a breath. When you can come think about it clearly, please reconsider how this interaction started. It is not fair to turn this situation around simply because Joel expressed his feelings. He is a person. We have to remember that.

Clair (Teampanda)
>>111085682

Stop it Stephanie, Joel does not pick on you all the time, you've told him you feel embarrassed by the comment then leave it at that, stop making this bigger than it is. Your words hurt someone else, own it, do better! Don't go on a personal tirade because you feel Joel needs to apologise for his feelings about your words!! You are putting him in an impossible position and you are putting yourself in a spiral of hatred that I'm sure isn't what you want. I'm going to leave it here, if you won't stop then there's not a lot else I can say.

Stephanie Bruso

How does it feel joel to twist my words?

Stephanie Bruso
>>111085682

I think he is lashing out at me and I have to be strong enough to take it. I know acting and I’m sorry.

Shauna
>>111085682

He was only expressing how your comment made him feel. He has every right to do so. You commented on a post and he commented back. He is a person with feelings. No one is embarrassing you but yourself. Stop taking your anger out in these comments. Take a breath and relax.

Mari

hey joel, you're amazing, and I appreciate you a whole lot and all that you do for us. I hope you know how beautiful you are inside and out and how insanely talented you are as a singer, musician, and producer. don't forget that, okay? 💛 🤗

CK DeP
>>111052613

Great!! So I download the Google Docs app and then search for "Roomie" or something 🤔

loonylovesgood

I’m late to respond and going to ignore everything above me here. I enjoyed the video, it’s always great to see songs from my youth in your videos. Can’t wait to see more!

Dannielle O'Neill
>>111118569

Well said, @Godz. Joel, that's why I'm here. The channel has had so much variety. You have so much versatility in your skills and talent. And you're a good human, to boot. I hope you're taking time out right now to relax. All the love to you and the fam ❤️

CK DeP
>>111052613

Ohh haha! ☺️🤣💕👍💖 No worries! Haha! Yeah I was like what! Well either way I just downloaded the Google Docs app so now I have it ready just in case lol 😆

Hayley
>>111116055

Stephanie, I think you need to take a break from your keyboard for a little while, this is not productive and certainly not helping anyone. Take a step back and calm down before you hurt yourself or anyone else.

Stephanie Bruso
>>111116055

I have a question for you and for everyone? How would feel if joel said something like that to you. I know deep down in my heart that joel is lashing out at me and he doesn’t mean it. It’s still hurt though.

Jessistache_73

I hope you are doing well, Joel! Try not to stress and instead take this time to enjoy being back home. Take everything one step at a time. All will fall into place. Much love <3

JustSomeJK
>>111116055

I would feel like shit if I would hear that I have caused someone feeling bad based on something I commented, I would own it and apologize for it and leave it be. Stefanie I'm really sorry to hear that u aren't doing ok and I really hope that u can find some help for ur depression, it's not easy, I know, but I hope u feel better in the future. At the end of the day we are responsible for our own happiness and mental health, it's not anyone else's job to make us happy. For what I have seen, Joel does care and he is kind and I didn't see that as him lashing out. He just politely let u know how ur comment made him feel and asked u to be mindful in the future. I know it didn't feel nice to u, but just like u, Joel has the right to get hurt by negative comments. I probably should have stayed out of this, but I feel bad for u for not being ok and I feel bad for Joel. It's unfairly heavy burden to claim, that him standing up for himself and letting u know that ur comment made him feel bad, caused u to have a mental breakdown. Take care of yourself, u are worth it.

Miriam

Sorry to hear that your visa renewal is taking awhile, but I hope u are able to use that time in Sweden to relax and take it easy!! For the video ideas I mentioned some in the previous post, but to add another one lol maybe consider continuing doing the voice memo songwriting, but instead of using just one voice memo per song, combine multiple voice memos to create a song? And maybe show the process of creating the song? I really hope u are doing well! 🙂

Melissa Rogers
>>111099952

Oh yeah, definitely!! One of Joel’s most wholesome videos, and therefore one of my favorites!! 💜💜

Stephanie Bruso

Everyone is mad at me joel because I put you in a bad mood even though you probably in a bad mood anyways haha

Airyckah Lane
>>111160892

Um no? It’s the way you’re behaving while everyone is trying to help you calm down and view this situation from his point of view on his Patreon where we are supposed to be supporting him. You’re allowed to have opposing opinions. You’re allowed to have suggestions. No one is mad at you for that. What everyone is trying to get you to understand is that the words you chose to use made it come across as bashing and about you instead of helpful. And then when others tried to clarify that, you decided to be victimized instead of listening and trying to see how things are coming across to others. And I get how a bunch of people suddenly all responding at once to be “on Joel’s side” could seem like a personal attack against you, but it wasn’t. It was in the hopes of better understanding all around.

Airyckah Lane
>>111077039

I feel the same as Christina and (not so secretly) glad to hear your response about them😅

Lianne Conroy
>>111160892

You really are just showing the kind of disrespectful person you are today. You accidentally said something mean and hurt someone's feelings. He VERY politely asked you to be careful the way you phrase things and at first you apologized because you realized you made a mistake. But now you have thrown a tantrum and playing the victim for hours now. No one is upset with you because you made Joel mad. We're upset with you because of the way that you're behaving after the fact.

Stephanie Bruso
>>111160892

Why are people not understanding that I didn’t mean to bring joel down? Seriously can someone explain this to me. I have autism so communication is not the best for me. I may imply things that I didn’t mean. It doesn’t feel fair to me because I have worked so hard on trying to communicate effectively without hurting someone’s feelings. I love Shakespeare and I love reading. It feels like a slap in the face when I have tried so hard to communicate effectively and I still get into trouble. I’m working on my college degree which will be done soon and I will have a degree in business. I have worked so hard to educate myself and yet it doesn’t matter.

Lianne Conroy
>>111160892

Once again, no one is upset with you for your initial comment that made Joel upset. You made a mistake. He politely explained to you that it hurt his feelings and then you apologized for it. If it ended there, everything would be fine. Then you decided that that somehow was a personal attack on you. Quite a few people have tried to explain to you that no one was mad at you and that you needed to just step back and take a breath. You have been attacking everyone about it since. You have especially been attacking Joel when he did not do anything wrong. That is what everyone is a upset about.

Hayley

Lianne is right, this has been going on for hours now and it's beyond silly. Joel himself has obviously chosen not to engage in the matter any more so why can't you leave it there? Learn from it and move on. This is his page, his Patreon, his safe place, not a playground. This has actually been really maddening to read all day (and I've been on a school trip with 40-odd 6 and 7 year olds!)

Stephanie Bruso
>>111160892

Keep writing your hate comments I don’t care. Seriously keep writing them. I really don’t care. Joel is twisting my words and painting me the be the bad guy here. Joel is mad the world and he has to lash out at someone. If Joel would have dm on Patreon and told that this hurt feelings. I would apologize and deleted and this have never happened. But he felt the need to publicly embarrass me in front of everyone. Now everyone the community hates me and thinks disrespectful person. Joel is mad the world and he needs someone to lash out to. “Joel is right and I’m wrong.” It doesn’t matter how I feel.

Airyckah Lane
>>111160892

“Why are people not understanding that I didn’t mean to bring Joel down? Seriously can someone explain this to me.” Lianne “you ACCIDENTALLY said said something mean and hurt someone’s feelings” Me … well.. just reread everything I said Clair “this IS T AN ATTACK AT YOU, it’s merely an observation of your writing style” Marlene “I just want to help you get up again ❤️ Shauna “he was only expressing how your comment made him feel..,,.. take a breath and relax” Most comments telling you to take a breath and relax

Ooh I just got another silly idea: how about you ask your audience to give you an activity or random topic or phrase and then you write songs out of those suggestions. For example, like the “He’s Got Fluid” beatbox song from Scrubs— it doesn’t even have lyrics 😆 Expand on the suggestions and make the songs as silly, fun, or serious as you want. Eh?

Lianne Conroy
>>111160892

It's extremely obvious that you're just doing this for attention at this point. You're not even reading anything that anyone wrote. So no one should engage with you anymore. Honestly, if I were Joel you'd have been blocked from all of my social media like years ago cuz you do this all the time.

Stephanie Bruso
>>111160892

I get it now I’m the evil guys. I made Joel upset and now everyone hates. Joel right. I’m wrong.

Clair (Teampanda)
>>111160892

Stephanie you really need to let this go before you are blocked. It isn't a case of Joel right - you wrong, you have somehow construed a conversation that only existed in your own mind. It's about you understanding that you can't ask a person to apologise for having feelings about something you said or did that hurt them. You made me quite angry with one of your comments, it was a nasty, spiteful thing to say. The way you layed the blame for a mental breakdown at Joel's feet is manipulative and cruel. Don't use your illnesses as weapons! I strongly suggest you take a break away from here, focus on your studies and your well being for now. Please reach out to the crisis line if you feel you need to.

Stephanie Bruso
>>111160892

You don’t have to worry about me here for awhile because I will leave Joel alone. I will scared to write comments to Joel because he will read them the wrong way. I called the crisis line yesterday and they didn’t really help honestly.
