the pokemon have different names in Japanese, so thats why its different. the english names of the pokemon shown were: charizard, mega charizard x, absol, mega absol, chespin, garchomp, mega garchomp, blastoise, and mega blatoise. :) in case you were wondering

If you want a really good place to start the Pokémon anime, its diamond and pearl. But the English version is the bomb. Dawn is best Girl.

I'd say english sub has better bgm and that makes the fight scenes even better. But ofc he can rewatch it in english dub too.

I would recommend starting from Diamond and Pearl, that is my personal favorite as well as being a fan favorite, and the journey with paul being ash best rival ever is so worth it to watch. I say that because if you start at xy, you will miss out on so much good stuff that happens before, and I know that you are into top tier animation and I know that XY really starts to kick off with the animation, but its worth it to watch the rest of the show before that, because there are many important characters that appear in journeys that you won't understand if you don't watch from earlier on, especially paul.
