So I finally played this game, once and for all, all the way through, and I had a pretty good time. I understand why so many people would remember this game fondly even if it breaks my brain a little. After a couple of days dealing with technical issues (there are a couple parts of this video that Premiere did not want to render) and doing about 10 exports, I think it's finally ready for mass consumption. I'm hoping to do the Powerslave remaster next, another game I never really played much of (the PSX/Saturn version), but I did play the build engine one a long time ago. Bless Nightdive for making a great port of an ok but flawed game. I'm not sure if I'll do the build engine one in the same video or in another. I'm going to see what happens and try to take a few days to recharge my batteries since I feel like I've been doing 6-7 day weeks for the past 5 years. Oh, god, 5 years... three of them with the awesome support of you fine patrons, without whom I would probably still be fighting YouTube over every tiny little video where I happened to use the word "fuck" within the first minute. Speaking of vulgarities, I also am still waiting on Postal 4 to have an update that is a little more functional and complete before I tackle a Friday video. I'd like that one to be special._________________________________

Or if you want one of those fancy colored names that everyone gets now if they want. The credits in the video are usually a couple of days behind the actual patron list.

Crazy Taxi when civvie? Also when applicable I'll take a neon green name in the credits

Brilliant

Trahbox

Wasn't the Killing Time PC Port an Build one as well?

Valora Inverse

Oh wow, that was delightful and enlightening. Feel like I learned more about Dusk from watching this than I did playing Quake.

Nathaniel Dolynchuk

Pro Bob's Dragon Hunt when Civvie? ;7)) Seriously though I'm stoked to see this one! Been a long time since I played this one.

Build Powerslave is kinda jank from what I remember even with the patch that helps with mouselook. Wasn't even aware it was a Build game myself tbfh although that explains why I had to switch to max cycles on DOSbox... Any thoughts or opinions on Arthurian Legends? Anglo/Saxon England inspired melee focused title that I think is pretty fun, although it's optimisation at launch was utterly atrocious.

Kouhstipher

Man Civvie you really know how to dig up my childhood.

matt

oh I'm kinda into this. maybe I'll give it a spin later.

Brandon Robinson

5 years nonstop? Fuck dude, yeah take a break. I expect at least half of your Patreon dollars go to hookers & blow this month. I'll also take a neon red name in the credits pretty please <3

The Powerslave remaster is a good ol' time. It's almost more of an adventure game than an across the board first-person shooter. Some people on Steam have referred to it as a Metroidvania. That's not at all true, but you definitely get a feel for where their heads were at when you actually play it. Big recommend.

John Schmulowitz

Definitely can see where Hrot and Perilous Warp got their influence from. Also that IT guy in the cutscene's voice bothers me so much. It's like they tried to recreate an english speaking person from memory.

Merjia

Describing slavjank dialogue as coming from a skinwalker is perfect.

Devin Schiff

Looks wonderful. Hopefully you'll feel better after a bit of a break.

Fabian Q.

Did the commander just said "Nu - Q - lear"? I lol'd at the Wind Generators comment btw.

SpilledAntifreeze

That was a great review! It's nice to see Civvie enjoy a game and not suffer too much from it. The combat montage music was dope. Although I'd say that this game is not the root of all slavjank - its true beginnings lie in 1995's "Dungeons of Kremlin" https://youtu.be/iOe4AysQbHE?t=147 Please do not pay maximum attention to that game.

Erik Olsson (TerrorBlades)

Great episode as always! Did you switch Microphone for the segment when "look down at your phone"?

TATERplaysGAMES

21:38 - Wow, seems even Doom: Eternal took pointers from Chasm, at least in the telling you exactly how to beat the boss department.... and the enemies occasionally dipping a toe into the bullshit.

A Guy in a Jacket

Thanks for another video Civvie, never played Chasm until recently. Take a break man, you earned it after five years of awesome content that I still regularly go back and watch.

I never expected you to actually give in to the brown side
