This was one I was really excited about. So the story in the intro of this video is correct in the sense that someone did once do me a kindness and asked for a video on this game and that was a long, long time ago. I never forgot. This game lived rent free in my head for years. Every October, I thought "this is going to be the year" and something usually prevented it. I fought with a lot of technical issues at the time but never forgot about geist (stylized with no capitalization, for reasons) and a few months ago I returned to it with renewed vigor, hoping to finally capture gameplay for a Halloween episode. A mix of a faster PC and a more updated version of Dolphin resulted in me being able to play the whole thing through without a hint of the weird graphical issues I was originally seeing.

I had a lot of fun with this even when it wasn't running well or looking pretty. It's not often that I touch a console game and I was happy to do something a little different this time around. I hope you all enjoy it! It was a blast to play the game and make the video.

Happy Halloween,

-Civvie

P.S. In hindsight, problems with QTEs may be linked to me overclocking by 20% to get better performance out of the game, if that kind of thing is tied to the framerate, which is entirely possible.  Also, no hate on F.E.A.R. 2, I just wanted to do a joke about the ending. P.P.S. I said I was tired of Starfield discourse in the last S.T.A.L.K.E.R. episode. This has been retconned for the sake of jokes. _________________________________An even newer Patreon discord invite link!Patron discord link:Copy and paste this link in your browser because patreon is really weird about it:https://discord.gg/66UQ3nDcRAIf you'd like to have a different name in the credits than what you pledged with, leave me a comment, or DM me on here or Twitter or discord or whatever. Good shit Civvie <3

NerdyOgre254

When Demon-possessed Alexander says they're submissive, my brain automatically thought: "and breedable" so I guess I'm a fuckin degenerate. Also, definitely could have fit in a Doom 3 joke with the mirror scare of that lady. I was hoping for one.

TheDude

Thanks again Civvie and happy halloween!

JTHomeslice

Oh wow, I actually played this back in the day. Never would have expected this, awesome!

Steven Wilson

The F.E.A.R. 2 line has to be from that convo we had on that last video. It's OK Civvie, I don't take any disrespect. I know it isn't the best game ever but its better than 3 atleast lol

civvie11

Lol, nope, I wanted to do a reference to not being able to show FEAR 2’s ending and that’s how it made it in. I’d be embarrassed to do that to you.

Steven Wilson

Damn, here I was thinking I had some influence on my favorite YouTuber XD Aww its alright, you shouldn't be embarrassed doing that to me, be more of an honour sir

civvie11

It's more that I'd hate to call out a patron in a video like that. You all deserve better!

Silentphil9

Pro Starfield when, Civvie? :D

Steven Wilson

It be more of an honour to me hearing you referencing something I said in a vid. Your the last one I'd be ever feel attacked from. If it makes you feel better, unfortunately I've only ever been able to give a dollar a month since I started back in November of 2020 I think

Ilkka Karppinen

Damn, this was a fun watch. 😁 I may finally have a reason to watch WW84 now.

Ruby Ranger

I'm only halfway through at this point, but just seeing you cover a GameCube fps, one that felt like such an oddity back during my GameCube, is refreshing and I'm enjoying this thoroughly. Although you preferring the GC over the N64 is, uh....well that's certainly a take

ZordLedd

Wow, core memory unlocked. Haven't thought about this game since 2005.

SpaceAceNate

Only ever played this at a hotel (remember when those had wired GameCube controllers sometimes?) when I was like 9. I wasn’t allowed to play M rated games, but I rented it and my parents were like “well we can’t get a refund so fuck it” and let me play it. Didn’t get to the spectral sex pest part, but I think that might have made them reconsider.

BigDredWun

Well I guessed wrong, I suppose I'll have to make due picking this video apart seeing how many hidden jokes and references I can find.

Rahan

I’m hype to sit down and watch this in celebration of ~getting a new job~, haven’t thought of this game since I rented it at Blockbuster. also, a question as I play it myself for the ~spooky season~: Have you ever considered playing Harvester? It’s… a weird, occasionally hilarious, sometimes disturbing point-and-click by the people that brought us Dr. Radiaki. Complete with a shout-out in the background of the general store.

Somehow, I have Wii hooked up in my living room in 2023, and this game from nearly 20 years ago is next to it. Honestly, A+ for knowing your audience. Never did beat it first go around. Got to the Assassination Simulation stuff, but never bothered to go further. Gonna retry it now, I think.

Devin McIntyre

It is INCREDIBLY WEIRD hearing the Starcraft 2 "You just started looking for a match" noise every time you possess someone. It is 100% the same noise, I don't know if that's in Geist itself or an edit but I legit had to check to make sure I wasn't logged in and seeking a game

Scott

I was just happy to see a new Civvie video, had absolutely no idea that this was going to be the game my buddy described to me as a kid that I figured he was always making up because the little shit was and is a pathological liar. Same kid claimed his dad owned explosive arrows and dragons breath shells, we're fuckin' Canadian so you can understand why I always thought he was a lying little shit

Torcularis

How are you holding up in our nightmare hellscape of modern life, Civvie? Everything alright at home? I played this briefly long ago and it was always something I meant to go back to, but as the madness has taken my mind the last year or so, that probably won't happen. There really aren't enough games involving playing as ghosts that possess things. It's such a fertile idea.

civvie11

I’m aware of Harvester and I have hazy memories of trying to play it decades ago, so maybe.

Nitesco

Fun video. Geist is more interesting than I expected from a Gamecube exclusive. Concepts that could be really cool if expanded on. I suppose one game that's somewhat similar in that it's First-Person and it lets you take control of things to get around and solve puzzles is Ctrl Alt Ego. If you get to making a F.E.A.R. 2 video, you'll have to come up with a new clever title, since you already used "Point Man Insertion" for the first game's video.

John Doe

Watching this game reminds me of something I recently figured out how to do. Did you know you can split your consciousness? Under certain parameters related to elevated neurotransmitter levels, this can happen. In the last year, I have pulled it off 3 times. Each time, I was momentarily a fraction of myself, like an animal, and was there when the consciousness came back and started speaking to me. It's like the autopilot button breaks in the on position. It was pretty wild!

Tory Leo

Thanks Civvie!

Bounced on my buddy's superfly to this for hours,

Civvie said Luxembourg and it´s all I ever wanted.

Hey Civvie As a kid who grew up exclusively with a Gamecube in our house and - let me tell ya - there were A LOT of dry spells in the release calendar each year. One Christmas, we were so desperate for new games, that we bought this game (which was in a bargain bin) and - even though it wasn't great - it still has a special place in my heart. I don't know what the publishing contract between Nintendo and Nspace, but - no joke - a few years back, I went to steam and found a copy of this game and bought it on the spot for around 5$ (what steam said was the "full price") I checked again and it no longer seems to be listed - so I either imagined it OR have a legal copy of this game on pc somewhere. I looked on google and there are no posts about this and nobody even noticed it was there - let alone that it is now gone. I don't know if the contract Nintendo signed allowed it to be published elsewhere or if there was bad blood was between Nspace and the big N All I know is that Nintendo famously DID NOT like any of the game they showed off to Shigeru Miyamoto so they stopped giving it a proper marketing push

Twilight Researcher

I'd always heard about this game in some way or another, but never really looked into it to see if it was worth all the hubbub or not. Definitely a hidden gem from what I've seen in this. I'm glad you got the chance to enjoy it amid the frozen hellscape you're currently dealing with, and wish you the best. Certainly hoping to see more wild picks like this again.

Frank R

This was great. Would love to see you do more console games that are even more out of your comfort zone.

WaltManTutorials

This game was really cool! Quite riske' for Gamecube too!
