I've made a companion lesson to the recent video I did on diagonal major pentatonics. Although major and minor pentatonics are closely related, I thought it was worth detailing how I approach the minor side of things. The format is the same as the first video: scale fingerings and drills, a bit of theory, and plenty of licks and musical examples.

I hope you find this one helpful.

Tab can be found below. I've written out most of the examples for the video as well as my intro solo. The backing track will be in the next post.

Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Speak next week,

Adrian

Wonderful solo! There is a sort of Billy Gibbons vibe in there. Great lesson Adrian.

Chris Kueny

Again Adrian--you and Eric Haugen on a psychic connection.

Dave Knowles

Great stuff, as usual. A handy link to the referenced major pentatonic article would be ... handy

scott smith

Great lesson, much appreciated

Peter Healy

Agree with other comments Adrian. Just one thing, please keep your channel as a No Shred Zone. Cheers Pete

Blaine Whelan

isn't it more usual to run the overdrive pedal into the fuzz?

Matty

Great lesson as usual. That's my weekend sorted. Thanks mate!!!!!!!

Jordan Zimmerman

Just a fair warning if you decide to get the Golden Fleece… Mythos puts a magnet in that pedal. How do I know? Because every time I try to take it off my board it always manages to make its way back 😉

Thanks Chris! Flattered by the Billy Gibbons comparison - he's a master at this kind of thing.

anyonecanplayguitar

Yes, very strange coincidence. I'll have to check out his approach and see how it differs from mine!

anyonecanplayguitar

Thanks Dave. I've now added a link onscreen in the video. The Patreon materials should be in the posts section about 4 or 5 weeks back.

anyonecanplayguitar

Haha, yes I think it's probably wise to steer clear of the shredding, at least for the time being!

anyonecanplayguitar

Hi Blaine. Yes possibly. I do both, and it depends what kind of sound I'm going for. Fuzz into overdrive seems to give a more compressed, thicker sound, and it rounds off some of the high end of the fuzz. The other way round is good if you want a volume boost for a solo. Worth experiment with it for sure.

anyonecanplayguitar

Haha. Yes, every time I get it out I'm always struck by how good it sounds - any guitar or amp it just seems to sound great.

anyonecanplayguitar

Thanks Robert. Yes, stacking overdrives is a really fun way to get some different sounds.

Mahesh Vaswani

Hi Adrian in reference to Billy Gibbons could you do a ZZ Top track.

David

Another super helpful tutorial! Really enjoy how clear you explain concepts and encourage the exploration. Thanks again Adrian!

Marek Polacek

Another fantastic video; I'll be playing with this for a while. Thanks!

anyonecanplayguitar

Yes, I've long thought it would be fun to look at a ZZ Top track. I'll try and do it later in the year.

Fabio Punk

Thanks Adrian I was sort of waiting for this, which I will transpose to the key of A
