For Day 3 I've got an exercise based on the beautiful chords from the song Need Your Love So Bad. I suppose this one's really more of a musical study than an exercise but it does provide a great workout for your picking accuracy when arpeggiating chord shapes. Hope you enjoy it. Speak tomorrow for Day 4.

2026 Technique Challenge: Day 3 - a beautiful arpeggio picking exercise

For Day 3 of the challenge we have some beautiful, bluesy arpeggio picking. Based on the chords from Need your Love So Bad, a tune famously covered by Peter Green's Fleetwood. A great workout for your picking accuracy. Great lesson! This is a guitar shop favourite for me and interesting to hear the sophisticated chord voicings. 😃

Miles

I love the melody, sadly for me the unknown chord voicings are a far high barrier than the picking

This is a great lesson and I love the D#dim7.

These exercises are great!

I’m not bad at picking when it comes to licks solos etc. However Picking across chords strings always gets me a bit. What picking pattern do people use on a song like mr bright side?

J.P. McDermott

It would be nice to have chord diagrams of the unusual (to me) voicings.

NB

Thanks Adrian - just a beautiful chord sequence for sure!

With this exercise I'm just focusing on the first 4 chords to keep it manageable for myself - still sounds nice and a good challenge!

I think I'm going to try to apply the Day Hendrix double stop ideas to this chord sequence. Cross pollination between lessons!
