Morning all! It's been a while since I've done a blues-based video, so this week I thought I'd talk about some of my favourite ways to break out of that minor pentatonic soloing rut that many players find themselves in. The first half is giving you a bit of theory, and then in the second part we have some luscious licks. Here's a link to the video:

Music/tab and Guitar Pro file can be found below. Hope you enjoy. Have a great week, and we'll speak next Friday.

I pick up new things all the time from your you tube lessons, that I decided to be a patreon supporter as a little payback for your work from which I benefit all the time. Wish I could play half as good as you, but I am enthused after 30 years of playing I'm still learning and loving playing guitar.

I was glad when you (Adrian, that is) went on Patreon, so that there was a clear path to compensate you at least a little for your great lessons.

It's great to have you on board here Tom - thanks so much. Hope you continue to find the videos helpful. Don't be too modest about your own playing either, from what I've heard your a very talented player and songwriter!

Thanks as always Chris! Great to have the support of you and everyone else here. It's definitely made a difference already, and given me extra motivation to keep making new and interesting videos.

Hi Adrian, just getting started here, very much enjoying your lessons and finding them very useful. At the end of this one you mention a possible future video discussing changing the scales to match the chord being played in the progression. If there is a video covering that topic here on your site, could you point me to it? I find the licks you show here in A7 work well throughout the entire progression, but I expect that can be improved by targeting the chords specifically, so I'm looking for more information on that topic.

Hi there - I don't think I've directly covered this subject in a video though I've certainly touched on it in a number of videos. I will still try and make a video on scales and the blues at some point. It's not quite the same thing but in the the recent video I did on triads and 2nds I talk about chord tone soloing and how to tailor your note choice to the chord of the moment. So if you've not seen that one, it might be worth a look.

Thanks much for your reply, I look forward to studying that video.
