Morning everyone. A Nice Lick for you today. I was intending to make the video all about the lick, but then it turned into a more general discussion of playing over chord changes using triad shapes. Hope you find it interesting and helpful.

And music/tab for the lick as well as my Guitar Pro file is attached below.

I'll be working on new lessons today. As always, if there's anything in particular you'd like to see me do let me know, whether it's a particular song or artist you'd like me to look at, or something more general. I can't promise I'll be able to follow through on everyone's requests, but it's very helpful for me to know the kind of things you'd all like to see.

Have a good week, and speak next Friday!

Adrian

Nice Lick: Let's Learn It 7

Another nice lick. And this lesson also turned out to be a bit more of a general discussion about playing over chord progressions using triad shapes. I attended the right lesson at the right time, please one more tutorial of how to use Triads (!) Thank you Adrian man .

Chad Totaro

awesome, I really like this! been learning all the licks you have been putting together. Looking forward to getting into this one. Cheers.

Very useful theory, now you need to do something loud and dumb before I learn too much: I suggest 'Pipeline by Johnny Thunders

anyonecanplayguitar

Yes, loud and dumb is good! I might well look at Pipeline, think that would make for a fun video.

anyonecanplayguitar

Glad you liked this one.! Yes, I might try and do some more lessons on how to use triads later this year.

Jeff Sims

I am sure the next batch will be up to your usual high standard, whatever you choose.

Another suggestion / request (requestion?): Knock on Wood, by Eddie Floyd. It was on Atlantic Records, so may have been Steve Cropper on guitar, but I don't know for sure. Good guitar part, though!

Jeff Sims

I just looked it up, Steve Cropper has a writing credit for 'Knock on Wood', so, yes, it's probably him playing on it.

anyonecanplayguitar

Yes, certainly sounds like Cropper to me. Another good choice. You'll be pleased to know I'm having a go at Pipeline today! Thought I'd look at the original and then do another quick video on the Thunders version. Will try and get it up tomorrow. Thanks for the idea!

Jeff Sims

I can't wait! Like any creative process, I can imagine there are times when you find it hard to know what to do videos about, so I'm happy to know I have helped you to maintain your output! Cheers!

Adrian: How do we use the .gp files? I can open it with winzip but from there, nothing.

anyonecanplayguitar

Hi Jim. Yes, the .gp files are Guitar Pro files and to open them you'll need the most recent version of the Guitar Pro software. The actual music/tab is the same as the pdf. The advantage of using Guitar Pro is that you're able to play back the music, slow it down, check rhythms, isolate difficult bits etc. So it's a useful practice tool. If you're not familiar with it I think there's a free trial on their website which you could check out if you think it would be useful to you.

I've used the Guitar Prop app on my iPhone. I think it was free, although I might have paid some small amount. The full Guitar Pro app on the computer was not free and was more than I had use for right now, but the phone app will at least play the files (although in a not-very-pleasant electronic tone).

As it turns out, I already had the Guitar Pro program on my computer from way-back when I bought a FretLight guitar. I needed to update to the current version but it wasn't too expensive. Still less-than-ideal sound generation. ACPG files play perfectly.
