Hello all,

You asked for it, and in this week's video I'm looking at some Orange Juice. I've gone for what's probably the obvious track - Rip It Up - their first and only hit single from 1983. (If you still want more OJ, I might well try and look at another song in one of my Patron-only videos later in the year.)

Here's the video: https://youtu.be/mUIuZMmoHQU

There's so much good guitar stuff happening in this one. In the tab I've written out all of the main parts. The backing track is coming up in the next post.

Here's a link to the documentary I mention in the video. Well worth a watch if you're interested in learning more about the Scottish indie scene at that time:

Enjoy playing the song!

Thank you Adrian for this pop classic

Would love some more Adrian, could never figure out falling and laughing off the first album....

This is great--thank you so much, Adrian. The Cmaj7 to D13 riff is particularly magic. I'd be delighted if you were to do more Orange Juice tracks (and Hope and Despair is a great LP as well . . . ).

I enjoyed putting this video together, so may well try and look at some more later in the year. I'll take a listen to Falling and Laughing and see if I can get to the bottom of how it's done.

Thanks Eric. Yes, that 3rd verse riff is great - I'd always assumed Edwyn played the same riff all the way through, so it's nice to make this discovery...will almost certainly try and do more Orange Juice later in the year.

Great riffs, thank you. Enjoyed Big Gold Dream, especially seeing Rezillos resonated, we did It Gets Me as a cover early 80's in Toronto clubs.. Amazing how the music traveled back then and we loved it. Buzzcocks, Undertones, Smiths, Jam... however none of these were on the charts here at the time.

One of my favourite songs ever! Transports me back there.

Did you ever post the backing track for this? I can't find it...

Sorry navigating and finding things on Patreon can be a bit of a pain in the ass!

Mark Ross

Yeah found it now - thanks! Really looking forward to learning this one :)
