Good evening all,

This week, I have one final (for now) John McGeoch vid. I filmed this with the others, a few weeks back. It's  a real classic that I thought deserved a proper lesson.  Some super interesting guitar parts, that really aren't too hard to play once you know how.

Here's the link -

I'm attaching the tab below. Backing track will be in the next post.

Hope you enjoy the lesson.

Speak next Friday,

Adrian

Any chance Adrian we can get a tab on spellbound?, you totally nailed it and I have never seen a tab on this and I’m dying to take a stab at it !!..even though this song is incredibly difficult. Would really appreciate it thank you all my best Johnny 😊✋🏻🎸

Stéphane Mineot

Hé, Hé... Really love this. I don't know if you ever mention that but Robert Smith replaced McGeoch when he left The Banshees. There is this Nocturne live recording and film where we can see and here Smith playing McGeoch guitar parts

Kingsley Gratrick

I was at the Royal Albert hall gig back in 1983...I was actually disappointed that McGeoch wasn't playing and Robert Smith had stepped in!

Thomas Simmons

Awesome Adrian!!! Thank heaven for you to figure these things out.

anyonecanplayguitar

Yes, I've seen some of that live footage. People complain he doesn't quite nail the McGeoch sound and parts, but I think he does a pretty good job. Talk about hard shoes to fill!

anyonecanplayguitar

haha yes, Robert Smith's obviously great, but nobody can really do it like McGeoch.

Jude

Brilliant Adrian, down to the last detail as always. Thank you!

Stéphane Mineot

Of course. Robert Smith is not McGeoch but he did it on his way and I think he did a good work anyway

Deron

Hi Adrian! If I were to request a Siousxie & The Banshees song Happy House would've been the one! Thanks for doing one of my all time favs!

Robert Frame

Thanks Adrian. Excellent lesson. Loving your John McGeoch selections. If that is the "For now" of the McGeoch lessons maybe its time for Mr Adamson with something from his Skids days.

anyonecanplayguitar

Thanks Robert. Yes, I'm already considering a Skids lesson, think it'd be a lot of fun. Anything in particular you think I should try looking at?

anyonecanplayguitar

Glad you liked it Deron! Yes, I just had to do this one, a real classic.

Robert Frame

I think Scared to Dance or possibly The Olympian. I'm easily pleased and there is a great selection.

Again thanks Adrian for turning me on to this unique talent, isn't that the wonderful thing about music, there's always something fantastic out there waiting for the listener to discover, be it new or old music. Technical question, I see you favor the silver Archer pedal, I think I've seen other Klon type pedals in earlier videos, any particular reason why you've settled on that one? Sorry if that's a dumb Q, ultimately the answer is 'I like the way it sounds better', but didn't know if there was a characteristic of the OD you preferred. thx Ralph

Yes, I have an embarrassingly large number of overdrive/distortion pedals. For a general, tasteful overdrive I do like the Klon style sound. Dynamic, nice mid range, the tone control is at just the right frequency to cut through. I have the Archer and also a Tumnus. To my ears they pretty much sound identical. I'm favouring the Archer at the moment simply as it's always ready to go on my 'video' pedal board. The Archer is on another board which at the moment I'm going through when I'm practising.

Ralph Blair

Thanks! In your case it's a job requirement I guess! I have a Lil Mo, another Klon type. Works great, particularly like it with single coil pickups, rounds out the sound.

anyonecanplayguitar

Yes, I agree particularly good with single coils - often an 'always on' type of pedal for me.
