Hello all! Hope everyone's doing OK. We've had a run of quite challenging lessons over the past few weeks so, by way of complete contrast, this week I thought I'd look at some raw, primitive rock 'n' roll from the great Link Wray. This one's all about attitude; nothing too complex to play. Here's the link:

The tab can be found below. Hope you enjoy playing the track. Backing is coming up in the next post!

Speak next week,

This was so great! I downloaded your Guitar Pro file and synched it with audio of the song and it lined up very closely. I'm sure anything not exact is due to me not being proficient in GP8. I had a blast playing this one. My six year old granddaughter came for a visit. She broke out her black mini strat with a multi-colored backback bag, unicorn strap, colored strings and bright colored number stickers on the frets and did the first several bars. Even practiced making a mean face when hitting the A chord. This one is fun for me, and fun for grands as well.

Perfectly done. You always find the right songs for the right time. Respect!

I'm going to have fun playing this over the weekend. I appreciate all the Link Wray and other early. rock artists in your song lessons.

I am LOVING the rock and roll stuff. I particularly love how accessible this is to people of my skill level but also isn't the 'Normal' stuff

Thanks Richard. Yes, these are the kind of tracks I love to teach beginner or early intermediate kind of players. Not too hard to play, not too obvious and boring, but still really great pieces of music.

These are the fundamentals. And a bit of Ron Asheton, Howling Wolf and some Robert Quine and maybe some choice reggae licks.

hi adrian ,dig the raw link wray tutorial ,i have the rumble man dvd ,a lot of people have the oppinion that link wray was not a great guitarist ,but i think they miss the point ,he did just enough to make his music hit the spot ,a few chords playing around with the rhythm ,and the overdriven sound ! as soon as the first chord is struck you know whats coming is going ti be something you like ,another great guitar player i think is wilko johnnson ,what do you think ,maybe another project ?.all the best paul .

Did the backing track get posted? I cant seem to find it. Also.... the addition of the full track is helpful as well. I like to start slow with the full track, then the backing track by myself.

Yes, agree! Reggae's the only thing you mention there that I've not yet really looked at, but I'm thinking about it! Next year, I hope.

Hi Paul. Yes, I agree - I'll take Link Wray's playing anyway over a lot of technically amazing players who don't seem to have much to say. I did a video on Wilko earlier in the year, did you see it? Search on here or on my channel!

Haroun Haroun

geez, I wrote this two years ago! talk about fan mail backlog!

anyonecanplayguitar

Haha, yes was attempting to reply comments on the new link video and for some reason I ended up here!
