Hello all,

There's a new video out today (I thought I'd release this one a day earlier than usual to get a little more Halloween mileage out of it) I'm looking at the song Spooky, originally a hit for 60s beat combo Classics IV. And this basically gives me an excuse to talk about all kinds of interesting guitar things - groovy rhythm ideas, playing vocal melodies on the guitar, double stops, and soloing using the dorian mode. Here's the link -

https://youtu.be/pE6rdWmVA-Y

The tab is below. In fact, there are 2 separate tabs - one for the rhythm guitar parts and one for the melody and solo. The backing track will be in the next post.

Hope you find it interesting.

In other news, I put out a new beginner soloing course at the weekend. You can get the full details here -

https://acpg.teachable.com/p/acpg-solos

It's very much aimed at beginners, so may well be too basic for many people here. But if you are a beginner looking to get into soloing and improvisation, or perhaps a self-taught intermediate player looking to fill in some gaps in your knowledge then it might be of interest.  (I had wondered whether I could somehow tie it in with Patreon membership, but that proved too complicated to set up! So for now it's a stand alone course.)

That's it for now. Speak next week,

Adrian

Hi Adrian, I am interested in the course but I have not availability this month, too much work I can imagine, I can enroll any month, after the course is release but is there is any specific reason to do it next week? Thanks in advance

Hi Hector. Yes, it's an online video-based course, and I should make clear it's permanently open for enrolment, so you can sign up any time you like. If you click on the link there's more information.

Héctor

Thanks for the clarification, I thought that maybe you make some kind of follow up with the "students" (I know it's much more work for you, in top of the course itself) 🙌

Spooky, the Dusty Springfield version is my favourite version, this I can see a song I’ll put into daily practice, it can only get better with practice. Many of us will find this a challenging worthwhile learning experience. I just did a quick run through and I’m looking forward to the next while learning this. Thank you Adrian.

Great lesson, Adrian. How about a lesson on Teleman or Brendan Benson? Not your taste of music?

Kyle Johnson

This is the lesson that Dorian kinda clicked for me. Never really gave the modes too much thought until now. Excited to explore more.

no biggie, but end of bar 4 on solo tab should be 10 fret string 2 , not that I am hinting for a lesson but if you want to get trippy check Classics IV "Traces "
