I've made a new record. It's a vaguely experimental mixture of synths and guitars, and rather than just do a totally shameless "buy my new record" style video, I thought I would take this opportunity to discuss my overall approach to writing and production. Here's the link -

Hope you find it interesting. And if you do want to check out the record in full you can do so on the usual streaming services, or at my Bandcamp page -

For those of you who fancy trying to play the piece I talk about in the video I'm going to post the backing track in the next post.

Speak next week,

Adrian

Any chance you could do another lesson from this , with a pdf?, I really enjoy the mixture of synth and guitar tones

Marcelo Magalhães

WOW!! Adrian and Guided by Voices sharing new work today, such a perfect day!!

Sam Dean

So exciting!! I love all the music you’ve put out so far so I can’t wait to hear this

Mhairi Sinclair

Nice track and really interesting video. I like a bit of a breakdown of these things and I’m a bit of a synth geek too although more proficient on guitar generally. Great stuff though, I will be checking out the album. 👍

trigpoint

Great stuff there Adiee lad. Was just in the mood for that.

Martin

Love indie guitar ... Love 80s synth pop ... Love this - Vinyl promptly ordered.

Christophe

Hi Adrian, thanks for your song, makes me thinking of The Cure meets Andy Summers solo work.

Christophe

The kind of song which makes you want to listen to if again and again. Great !

Steve

This is great! Love the music and excited to get a video that covers the creative process, a guitar lesson, and a bit of production all at once.

I will pick one up next payday and then wait 3 years for the Brexit/Covid/Putin Crisis Mail Service to deliver! All the best, Aaron!

James Beard

Great album Adrian, listened on Deezer earlier - love the motorik vibes! Since you mentioned Fripp... Any chance of a frippertronics lesson? Evening Star would be incredible. Also, I bet that an Anyone Can Play Synths YouTube channel would be pretty popular!

Ed

My bass teacher had a copy of this book on his piano, so I made a note of it and it seems relevant here - "Failure to Fracture: Learning King Crimson's Impossible Song" Anthony Garone

Martin

Another vote for Anyone (esp a guitarist) Can Play Synths channel ;-)

Daevid

Excellent! The sum is greater than the parts!

Cheers Martin. Shipped out the first batch of vinyl this week, so you should be getting yours soon - hope you enjoy listening!

Cheers Christophe! Yes, I'm happy with Cure meets Andy Summers, love them both!

Thanks James. Yes, I'd love to do a Frippertronics video. I was looking into doing it properly with a pair of reel to reel tape machines, but that might be tricky to pull off. So I think looking at a way of creating that sound with delay and looper pedals might be the way to go.

And thanks Ed, I'll have to check out the Fracture book - I remember talking about Fracture in one of my alternative solos videos. Sounds super interesting.

That's interesting James - a very similar approach to this one. I'm definitely going to take a listen - I've saved it on Spotify!

anyonecanplayguitar

Cheers Marcelo! Yes, I'm definitely going to be checking out the new GBV stuff too - always a good day when they release something new.

I wanted to buy a vinyl but shipping was nearly as much as one of ya lessons, so I got a digital. CD option would be handy!

Great Album, Adrian 👍. Listened to it last night on Spotify. Really enjoying it.
