I thought I'd do a bit of punk this week. The song is a bit of a British punk classic, I think. There are some great riffs, and it's reasonably easy to play. And it's also a nice workout for many of the most essential rock/punk techniques.

Tab can be found below. (No backing track this week, as I decided to play this one unaccompanied.)

Have fun; speak next week!

If you ever felt the urge to have a go at “It was cold” I’m struggling to make out some of it. Ta!

Wow, Adrian, thanks a ton for this one. The Crack by the Ruts was the first punk record I came across when I was 11 in 1980 and it’s (one of) the best punk album ever. Thank you :-)

what a nice surprise. I loved this song so much. thanks Adrian

I'd forgotten how awesome the Ruts were, thanks. How about Go Buddy Go next, nice circle of fifths theory in the chorus with Hey Joe crossover!

John

Thanks, Adrian. I asked for this quite recently.

love this song - thank you so much Adrain I saw the Ruts in Munich 3 weeks ago. If you feel like doing another Ruts song on day ... very welcome :-)

Ha! Nice one, mr. Woodward! Just recently I picked up on your fingerstyle tutorial from a few years ago. Enthousiastically attempting to apply this to a few classics I stumbled upon German virtuoso Hannes Wader playing Die Moorsoldaten (an anti-fascist classic with an interesting history. Dubliners play it under the name Peat Bog Soldiers). Full song here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-boCKJsDe5U, and a live performance with useful close-ups here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nTKBJgkVe8o. His thumb technique, among many other things, stands out: he seems to cover more than just the bass strings with it. He sems to be taking fingerstyle a few steps further. I hope this captures your interest, would love to hear your take on this. Best,

Yes, might well do another. I've not seen the most recent Ruts line-up live, must try and do so! They sound great in the videos I've seen.

Thanks Frank - this sounds really interesting! I'll take a listen to this right now!
