Hello all. This week something slightly different, and a video focusing on gear and tone. Specifically, I'm showing you 5 or 6 of my favourite delay units and talking about some of the ways I like to use them. Here's a link to the video -

Hope you find it interesting. And if anyone's interested in playing over the backing track I use at the start of the video, you will be able to find it in the next post.

Hope everyone has a great weekend. Speak next Friday!

Great topic, I look forward to checking this out! Have a great weekend!

This a great intro to pedals and how one should use them. I'm an old timer and have every pedal imaginable however if I was to use only one it would be my DD-6 delay. My normal setup is delay with a wee bit of compression.

That was really useful Adrian. I have a Boss Katana Mk2 100 amp and I've increasingly been frustrated by the rubbish quality of pre-made patches I've downloaded which just sound terrible. Unfortunately, I don't have the knowledge to make good ones of my own. I'm currently not in the best books of the band I'm rehearsing with due to this. Any chance of some guidance videos on building great tones or is the Katana just not as good as I was led to believe?

I love this kind of stuff. I'm just starting to get into using pedals, but like everything guitar related, it's such a huge subject. Anything like this really helps me out 😊

Yes, I love the DD6! I've had many fancy boutique pedals which have come and gone over the years, but the Boss stuff is always being used.

Hi John, I've not any direct experience with the Katana, but it certainly a very well reviewed and respected amp. I'm sure it's capable of some great sounds. But it does take time and experience to really dial in and get the best out of gear. I will try and do some more videos along similar lines to this one where I talk about tone building and how to get the best out of whatever gear you have.

Fantastic video, I would really like to know more about the sound design. Especially some breakdowns of certain sounds. To hear how the guitar sounds, is Your amp totally clean or edge of breakup and how does the Archer/Klon work with it. Does it push the amp harder or is it purely for coloring of sound. I'm not really that interested in distortions/overdrives, but this step seems to influence all the modulation/delay effects greatly and adds to the sound.

Great video, thank you! A great idea to have a series of videos on pedals. There is so much there, it is difficult to make choices. An expert advice is always welcome. Can't wait for the next one, What overdrive pedals woud you recommend ?

Loved this video – would love to see more like this. Immediately started looking for a delay pedal and picked up a used DD-7 – can’t wait to try it overtop of the backing track.

Thanks Brent. The video seemed quite popular so I'll definitely follow it up with one on reverb or modulation effects next year.

Thanks Jesus. Lots of options when it comes to overdrive - a few of my favourites at the moment - Boss OD 3 or Super Overdrive, J Rockett Archer (or another of the many Klon clones out there), Nobels ODR1, MXR Timmy (the new Duke of Tone looks good too, but I've not tried it yet.) Hope that helps.
