This week I'm looking at a great 1966 track from the Ventures. There's a heavy, Louie Louie style backing, and over the top we have some lovely country-ish guitar licks.

I've tabbed everything out below. The tab is transcribed directly from the original recording - my performance at the start of the video is close to what's written, but there are a few minor departures the tab here and there.

The backing track is coming up in the next post.

Hope you enjoy this one.

Speak next week,

Adrian

Never heard this track before, but it's a fun one. I like its groove! The mix of the fuzz bass and the country guitar licks is interesting.

Adrian, I always love the way you introduce me to songs and bands that I have never given time to. Bands like The Ruts, The Birthday Party, Link Wray. The only Ventures song I am familiar with is Walk Don't Run. This one should be great fun to learn.

I really like this tune because it summarises the styles that I like, so do these tutorials. Becoming obsessed with the guitar. Trying to concentrate on guitar playing and not guitar acquiring, lol. Currently content with my HB double cut with P90. Very curious to buy either a jazzmaster or a tele, or other. If you had to choose between one or the other, which would it be and why? I guess I need to do a deep dive within for the answer.

I had that album as a kid trying to learn these tunes. Adrian's version I'll "venture" to say is pretty snappy and on point. Back in the 60s these tunes were the go to for guitar slingers. A garage band was not worth its salt unless you could play Walk Don't Run, Wheels and of course Wild Child. For you boppers out there, this is where it started. Good show Adrian.
