Hi everyone. Being able to come up with interesting guitar parts that support the song is so important. In this video I illustrate my approach to this by creating 10 different guitars parts over one chord progression, using a wide range of different styles.

Everything is tabbed out below, as usual. And the backing track is coming up in the next post.

Hope you enjoy it!

1 Track, 10 Guitar Parts (How to find the perfect part for the song)

This is such an important part of playing the guitar: the ability to come up with interesting parts that enhance the song. In this video I create 10 different guitar parts over the same chord progression, illustrating some of my favourite rhythm guitar approaches. Great lesson Adrian. Full of ideas. Really to good to focus on how you shape a song with parts, rather on solos.

Mr Mont

This was great, Adrian! So many ideas - really expanded my thinking.

Allan Dahlquist

Thanks for another great lesson. This one is a good followup to last week's lesson.

Dan

Adrian, great lesson, thank you! Which pedals did you use for the 'vibrato' and the 'jangly' guitar parts?

Michael Ahearn

Great exercise thanks Adrian! I think you need to send that chord progression to Beck and make sure you get a songwriting credit when it becomes an international hit or Grammy winner.

Frank Meyers

Adrian just likes playing all his guitars. Thanks for the lesson really like it.

NB

Really liked those country bends. "Assuming" you have a video covering that?

Peder Olsson

Just what I needed for my band!

More of this please! This really got my creative juices going. The idea of using a reference persona (e.g., play in the style of Jimi Hendrix or Johnny Marr) seems so obvious but hadn't ever crossed my mind.
