Hello everyone! It's been quite some time since I looked at any Johnny Marr, so this week I'm bringing you my take on another Smiths classic, Barbarism Begins at Home. There are  a couple of typically brilliant and intricate riffs, and also a great funky outro section.

I've tabbed it all out below, including a couple of alternate options for the riffs that I talk about in the video. Picking directions are included too as I think it's important to get that right if you want the riffs to flow properly at speed. No backing track for this one, as I decided to play unaccompanied. But you can always try playing along with the record -  just remember to put a capo on at the second fret.

Hope you enjoy it.

Speak next week!

- Adrian

Jfm fab. How about Roddy Frame (Aztec Camera) Oblivious. Can never figure that one out…

I actually started prepping an Oblivious lesson a while back. Brilliant, but really bloody hard to figure out! Think I'm about 70% there. But I'm determined to crack it, so hopefully that video will happen at some point!

Another amazing Johnny marr tutorial; you are the best out there. Thank you and can’t wait to dig into this one!

Love when I see a new smiths tut on here!

“I wanna listen to The Cribs my dear, and learn to play it on guitar” - Jeff Rosenstock “Pash Rash”

Gary Robinson

Thanks Adrian, another great JM tutorial. If you’re looking for further JM lessons… how about New Town Velocity or his live version of Electronic’s Getting Away With It. Thanks!

Matt

I was learning new Smiths from your New Year's Bigmouth riff and the strumming got me to follow your Cemetery Gates breakdown. My cup runneth over with Adrian's J. F. Marr tutorials! Outstanding. Request for non-Smiths Marr: Dashboard by Modest Mouse. Or, you know...anything.

Peter Healy

Thanks Adrian. Also a big Johnny Marr Fan. This really helps sorting out and combining faster strumming and precise Picking. Ok some non Smiths JM so many, I'll have to get back to you on that.

NB

Thanks Adrian - learnt a lot from this one.

Jim Bond

Thank you Adrian! I love the JM lessons - it’s what drew me to be a Patreon supporter to begin with :) I’ll take all The Smith’s lessons you’re willing to give, but if I had to request some non- Smith’s JM my first choice would be anything from The The’s Dusk. His Modest Mouse work on We Were Dead… as well as some great stuff on the MM EP No One’s First, and You’re Next would be fun too!!

Robert

This is brilliant, thank you! I'd agree with others, non Smiths Marr would include New Town Velocity, We Share The Same Skies by The Cribs, Dashboard with Modest Mouse.... or whatever you fancy!

Thank you for this one, boss! Another song I tried to figure out as a kid that I never had the chutzpah to lock down--until now!

Callum Henderson

I’ll second Dashboard by Modest Mouse. Plus the riff sounds a bit like Easy Money so we’d get two for the price of one. 😀
