Devlog #44: Bad Week & Achievements (Patreon)
Content
When I usually complain(read: "bitch and moan") on this page, is mostly just a way to talk about what happened during the week, the ups and downs of solo-devving, in an entertaining manner. But this week... it really tested my patience. On Monday I was immediately stuck failing miserably to write a simple conversation between MC and Rhea. No matter what I did, I couldn't find a way to make the dialogue flow naturally, writer's block I guess.I managed to eventually write something I was happy about and fed the scenes to the PC for the VERY long rendering process. For the uninitiated: as a general rule of thumb, DAZ takes longer to render the closer a character is to the camera and the less illuminated the scene is. So imagine a full set of this: This sequence took over 28 hours to render... only to find out that the "blush" effect I normally use straight up doesn't work on Annie. So I had to redo a section of it, obviously. The first thought was to do the blushing "manually" through Photoshop, but Annie has freckles and I wasn't going to lose my already waning sanity on meticulously redrawing every single freckle, so I just ended up splurging and buying a new blushing shell. With that scene out of the way, I started working on day 2 and that went without a itch... until Thursday. As I was about to go to sleep, Steam emailed me, letting me now that AR got rejected 'cause the achievements where "inappropriate for general audiences". This was after a week of waiting for the first response and then ANOTHER after they asked for a full save file/full unlock of the game. And I completely lost it.Didn't sleep for shit, the day after I decided to just code and put in all the 41 achievements 'cause I don't want a repeat of this closer to launch. So the workflow that was starting to pick up speed got brought to a screeching alt......and then real life happened.I don't wanna bore you more than necessary, so let's just say that we got a family emergency that, luckily, turned out to be a false alarm.Everything was fine in the end, but by the time I got back home on Saturday I was just completely drained.I spent all my Sunday in bed, playing BG3 and finishing my first solo honour run (duergar fighter, archer build).Hopefully next week will be a good one. I'm actually very excited to work on the "thing" that happens in Day 2.See ya there!
