I imagine they have some way of making it their own. Maybe they have power over it, some kind of gift to clean their hands and not accidentally rub it off on people. Or maybe they have a coexistence with an enzyme / bacteria that break down all of it in a 24h time span? So every 30 minutes after a soda bath they are no longer stick on the outer layer and eventually get mostly clean without soda bath's / sprays.
