Alternate title: I roleplay with Claude for 5 hours instead of sleeping.

Eh.

So, obligatory AI discussion. Do I use it? A little. Do I generate whole stories with it? Oh I tried. Twice. Didn't work. Didn't like it.

So when I say "I use AI" think spelling corrections, grammar checks, extracting tags, etc... and I'll keep it that way cause writing makes me slightly less stupid.

Still.

I might have roleplayed with my phone for 5 hours. Will I keep this up? No. Not regularly, at least. It sucks time away from actual writing and reading good shi.

But still, here ya go. The prompts are fully mine, and the AI responds. U have both the textual version below and a PDF.

Enjoy some light attribute Theft magical spellcasting world urban thing.

MILANO SOMMERSA

An urban fantasy written live with an AI

Prompts by WineGodTG. Prose by Claude.

This story is an experiment: an improvised roleplay between me and an AI. My prompts, where I steer the story and play Will, are marked "WineGodTG". Everything else, the narration and the other characters, was written by Claude in response. Spelling is cleaned up, rewinds are cut, and only the final version of each scene is kept.

Modern-day Milan, but beneath the Navigli and the metro tunnels runs a hidden city of fae courts, river spirits, and old Lombard witches. The Duomo's gargoyles are awake at night and gossip worse than nonne. A truce between the human Watch and the Underneath has held for a century, and it's starting to crack.

CHAPTER 1: THE LAST M2

---

WineGodTG:

(Story note: Start. You play my friend, a short, chubby, insecure girl.)

---

Last M2 train out of Cadorna, a little past midnight. The carriage is almost empty: you, a sleeping man in a suit, and Giulia squeezed into the seat beside you, hugging her tote bag like a shield.

She's been quiet since you left the bar. Too quiet. She keeps tugging her cardigan down over her stomach and glancing at the dark window, where the tunnel lights flicker past.

Giulia: "Okay, don't laugh. Promise you won't laugh."

She leans in, voice dropping to a whisper.

Giulia: "That guy at the bar. The tall one with the weird silver eyes. He looked at me. Like, at me. And I know, I know, nobody looks at me, I'm probably being stupid—"

The lights stutter. For half a second the window reflection shows three passengers instead of two. Then it's back to normal. Giulia goes pale.

Giulia: "...You saw that too, right? Please tell me you saw that. Because if it's just me, I'm officially losing it."

Her hand finds your sleeve and grips it.

---

WineGodTG:

Will: "Giulia, for God's sake, I already told you, you can have any man you like. But you should probably fucking meet him first, you know? How are you always launching yourself at the closest target? Maybe he's an asshole."

---

Giulia lets go of your sleeve just long enough to smack your arm.

Giulia: "I'm not launching myself! I said he looked at me. Looking isn't launching. I didn't even talk to him."

A beat. She picks at a loose thread on her bag.

Giulia: "...Okay, I wrote my number on a napkin. But I didn't give it to him! It's still in my bag. Probably. Ugh, you're right, he's probably an asshole. Guys that pretty always are."

She tries to laugh it off, but her eyes slide back to the window. The tunnel is pitch black now. The station lights should have appeared by now. Lanza is never this far.

Giulia: "Hey. Are we... slowing down? Why are we slowing down?"

The train shudders to a stop between stations. The lights dim to a sickly yellow. At the end of the carriage, the sleeping man in the suit hasn't moved, but his reflection in the glass is sitting up, staring straight at Giulia.

And it has silver eyes.

Giulia: (barely a whisper) "Okay. Okay, I take it back. Definitely an asshole."

---

WineGodTG:

Will: "Yeah... what the fuck."

---

The reflection smiles. The real man, still slumped in his seat, doesn't.

Giulia grabs your arm with both hands now, nails digging in.

Giulia: "Don't look at it. My nonna used to say that, don't look at things in mirrors at night, I thought she was just being Calabrese about it, oh my god, oh my god—"

A voice comes from the glass, smooth and amused, like it's speaking from very far away and right in your ear at the same time.

Reflection: "You have something of mine, cara. The napkin. Ink and a name freely given, that's a promise where I come from."

Giulia's face drains of what little color it had left. She looks down at her tote bag. Something inside it is glowing faintly silver.

Giulia: "I didn't give it to him. I didn't. It's still in my bag, it's... it's still in my bag."

The carriage doors at both ends hiss and slide open, onto nothing but tunnel. Cold air rolls in, smelling like river water and wet stone.

Giulia: (to you, shaky) "What do we do? Do I give it back? Do I rip it up? Tell me what to do, you're the one who's good at this stuff."

---

WineGodTG:

Will: "Alright, Giulia, I think I know what this is... You've got to listen to me, okay?"

I look directly at him.

Will: "It's actually the opposite. When you look into them, they can't sense you. Well, as long as I have this ring on... Anyway, pretend I'm not here."

I lean close to her and whisper.

Will: "I can handle it, okay? But it's going to be weird."

I speak in the runic language. Suddenly time stops. Everyone in the metro is frozen, the phantom only trembling slightly.

Giulia: "Wh— what?"

My eyes are lucid, as if frozen too.

Will: "Giulia, listen to me. That guy's a hitman from Hell. Circle Two, I think. It thinks you're special to me and wants to take you down."

Giulia: "What the f—"

Will: "We don't have much time. I can handle it, but like I said, it's going to be weird, okay?"

I take out two small rings.

Will: "This is a body inversion ring. It transfers gross features, like gender, height and weight, between the two people who wear the pair."

---

Giulia stares at the two rings in your palm, then at you, then at the frozen phantom, its silver eyes locked mid-tremble.

Giulia: "A hitman. From Hell. Circle two. You say that like you're telling me the M2 is delayed again."

She laughs, high and a little hysterical, then presses both hands over her mouth until it stops.

Giulia: "Okay. Okay. How long have you been... whatever this is? Runes? Rings? You do IT support, you told me you do IT support!"

She takes a shaky breath and looks down at the rings again. Her voice gets smaller.

Giulia: "So if I put that on, I become... you. Tall. Strong. And you become—"

She gestures vaguely at herself, cheeks going red.

Giulia: "—this. Short and round and wheezy on the stairs. You'd really do that?"

Behind her, the phantom's frozen fingers twitch. Just slightly. A hairline crack spiders across the window glass where its reflection sits.

Giulia: (eyes flicking to the crack) "That's bad, right? That looks bad."

She snatches one of the rings before she can talk herself out of it, holding it over her finger.

Giulia: "Wait. Why does it need us to swap? What does it actually do to that thing? Tell me fast, and then... then I'll put it on."

---

WineGodTG:

Will: "Well... believe me, it's awkward for me too. I've done it with girls before, but never... well... you know."

---

Giulia blinks at you. Then her eyes go wide.

Giulia: "Wait, you've done this before? With other girls? How many other girls have you swapped bodies with?!"

Before you can answer, she shakes her head hard.

Giulia: "No. Not now. I'm asking you about that later, with wine. A lot of wine."

She looks at you properly, and something in her face softens. Her voice drops.

Giulia: "Never with a friend, huh. Never with someone who'd have to look at you over coffee the next morning."

A tiny, nervous smile.

Giulia: "For what it's worth... it's weird for me too. But I trust you. Weirdly. Even though apparently I don't know you at all."

The crack in the window spreads with a sound like ice on a frozen lake. The phantom's head tilts one degree toward you.

Giulia: "Okay, okay, okay—"

She slides the ring onto her finger and squeezes her eyes shut.

Giulia: "Your turn. Do it before I chicken out."

---

WineGodTG:

Will: "Okay, you're right, I can't hold this much longer. It's not just a simple poof spell, though. You've got to focus on one body part at a time, okay? And we have to sync."

---

Giulia opens one eye.

Giulia: "One body part at a time. Of course. Because nothing tonight can just be easy."

She takes a breath, then holds out her hand, the ring glinting on her finger. Her fingers are trembling.

Giulia: "Okay. Sync. How do we sync? Do I hold your hand? Do we breathe together? I did one yoga class in 2019, I can do breathing."

She takes your hand anyway, palm to palm, rings almost touching. Her grip is clammy and tight.

Giulia: "Start with something small. Please. Like... hands. Hands are fine. Hands are normal."

It starts in your hands.

When the light comes, it doesn't feel like magic. It feels like falling asleep with your arm under you: a fizzing numbness that crawls from your fingertips to your wrist, and then something worse. Your knuckles fold inward. Your fingers draw back into themselves like they're retreating from cold water. When you look down, the hand holding hers isn't yours anymore. It's small and soft, the nails short, a little chipped pink polish catching the yellow light. You flex it. It obeys. That's the part that makes your stomach turn. It obeys perfectly, like it's always been yours, and you're the stranger.

Across from you, Giulia is staring at her own hand, now wide and heavy, knuckles like walnuts. She turns it over slowly, almost reverently.

Giulia: (staring) "Oh my god. That's your hand. I have your hand. It's so big, how do you text with these?"

Behind you, the phantom's frozen jaw creaks open a millimeter. The rings pulse, waiting.

Giulia: "What's next? Tell me what's next, I'll focus on it. I'm focusing. I'm so focused."

---

WineGodTG:

Will: "Let's speed things up. Fuck, I've never done this with a person, so sh— sorry... Imagine your chest next. It's not going to sync yet, but I'll make some of the energy float in a ball and absorb it later. Imagine your chest, Giulia, as if you didn't... didn't have any."

---

Giulia goes scarlet to the tips of her ears.

Giulia: "Imagine my— okay. Okay, this is a magic emergency, it's fine, it's medical, it's like the doctor."

She squeezes her eyes shut. But before she can even start concentrating, a deafening CRACK splits the air. The window shatters inward, glass hanging frozen mid-air like glitter, and the phantom's hand jerks free of the time-stop, clawing toward her bag.

Giulia: "NO TIME FOR ONE AT A TIME!"

She grabs your other hand too and slams the rings together.

The carriage tilts. That's what it feels like: not that you're shrinking, but that the world is rising up around you, the seats looming, the luggage rack suddenly out of reach, the handrail at eye level like a branch you'll never climb. Your spine compresses, gently, like someone pressing down on the top of your head. Your clothes go slack and then strangely tight in new places, the jacket swallowing your shoulders, your jeans gripping hips that weren't there a second ago. Your weight drops lower, settles, roots you. You sway and catch yourself with a hand you still don't trust.

You open your mouth to say her name and a stranger's voice comes out. Higher. Breathier. It cracks on the second syllable, and the sound of it in your own skull is so wrong you clamp your mouth shut.

And then you look up.

Your own body is standing over you. Your shoulders, your long arms, the jacket you bought in Corso Buenos Aires three winters ago, the scuffed boots. Giulia's wearing all of it like a coat she's been lent and doesn't know where to hang. She's looking down at you with your eyes, and for one terrible second you can't breathe, because you've never seen yourself from below before. You look bigger than you thought. Steadier. You look like someone who could carry things.

She's looking at you the same way. Searching your face, her face, the soft round shape of it with your expression stretched across it. Something flickers in her eyes: recognition, grief, and something warmer she quickly hides. She reaches out, slowly, like she's afraid you'll vanish, and touches your cheek with one huge fingertip.

Giulia: (in your voice, barely a whisper) "Is that what I look like when I'm scared?"

You don't have an answer. You just stand there in her body, heart racing in a chest that isn't yours, feeling every inch of her life pressing in on you at once: the way your arms want to cross over your stomach, the way your eyes flick automatically to the dark window to check how you look, the small hot flare of shame at being seen.

And under all of it, quiet and unwelcome, the strangest thought: that she looks good in you. Better than you ever did.

The phantom wrenches its whole arm out of the glass. Its silver eyes sweep the carriage, slide right over you as if you're furniture, and lock onto Giulia, who now looks exactly like the person it was told to kill.

Phantom: "...There you are."

Giulia: "Uh. So. It worked? It's looking at me. Why is it looking at me? What's the part of the plan where I don't die?"

---

WineGodTG:

Will: "Oh my God, how did you make it so fa—" Cough. "Giu— I mean, Will. Run!"

---

Giulia doesn't need telling twice. She bolts, then immediately smacks your former head on the luggage rack.

Giulia: "OW! How do you live like this?!"

She stumbles down the aisle on legs that are suddenly twice as long as she's used to, arms windmilling, and dives through the open carriage door into the tunnel. The phantom peels itself fully out of the glass with a wet, sucking sound and lunges after her, its suit flapping like wings of smoke. It passes right by you, close enough that you feel the cold off it, and doesn't spare you a glance.

Then it's gone, and you're alone in the frozen carriage. Short. Round. Out of breath already, for some reason. Giulia's tote bag still hangs off your shoulder, the napkin inside glowing hot through the canvas.

From the tunnel, her voice echoes back, deep and panicked:

Giulia: "WILL! THESE LEGS ARE AMAZING BUT I DON'T KNOW WHERE I'M GOING! IT'S GAINING ON ME!"

Down by your feet, something silver catches the light: a floating, flickering ball of energy, hovering just above the floor where you two stood. The leftover from the half-finished sync. It hums softly, waiting.

The time-stop is fraying at the edges. The sleeping man in the suit groans and starts to stir.

---

WineGodTG:

Will: "Gi— Will! Come back, I'm scar— I mean, it's going to come for me, it's just confused! Fuck, fuck."

New feelings of shame and fear swirl in my mind. This body responds to onlookers in a way I've never felt, not even as Asia or Vale. So short and chubby.

Will: "Will, I forgot to tell you to take me with you!"

---

Your voice comes out high and thin, cracking on the last word. It barely carries.

For a second, nothing. Then heavy footsteps pound back up the tunnel and Giulia lurches through the doorway, ducking this time, chest heaving in your old body.

Giulia: "Sorry! Sorry, I panicked, I just ran, these legs just go—"

She stops. Looks down at you. At herself, really: shoulders hunched, arms crossed tight over the stomach, eyes on the floor. She knows that posture. She's stood like that in every changing room mirror of her life.

Her face changes.

Giulia: (softly, in your deep voice) "Oh. Oh, no. You're feeling it, aren't you. The looking."

Behind her in the tunnel, something shrieks. The phantom has realized it's been chasing nothing. Cold wind blasts down the tracks.

Giulia drops to one knee so she's at your eye level and grabs your shoulders. Her hands are huge on you now.

Giulia: "Listen to me. Nobody's looking at you. I know it feels like everyone is, it always feels like that, but it's a lie this body tells. You told me that, remember? At the bar? 'You can have any man you like.' You meant it about this body. So mean it now."

The sleeping man in the suit sits up, blinking blearily at the shattered window. The silver ball on the floor pulses brighter.

Giulia: "Okay. Inspirational moment over. It's coming back. Do I carry you? I can carry you now. I've always wanted to carry someone."

---

WineGodTG:

A small tear streaks down my cheek.

Will: "God, this body's so... emotional. Yes, Giu— oh, whatever. Get me out of here, yes!"

---

Giulia doesn't hesitate. She scoops you up like it's nothing, one arm under your knees, one behind your back, and you're suddenly very aware of how small you are against her chest.

Giulia: "Oh my god, you weigh nothing to me. Is this how strong you've always been? You've been carrying the shopping bags like it's a favor this whole time?"

She thumbs the tear off your cheek with a clumsy, too-big hand.

Giulia: "And it's not 'so emotional.' It's just honest. Your body's been lying to you about being fine for thirty years. Mine just doesn't bother."

She steps over the silver ball, hesitates, then crouches and scoops it up with her free hand. It sinks into her palm like warm honey and she shivers.

Giulia: "Taking this. Feels important. Don't know why."

The tunnel howls. Silver eyes bloom in the dark, two, then four, then six. The phantom is coming back, and it has brought friends.

Giulia turns and runs the other way, toward Lanza, the station lights finally glowing faint and orange up ahead. Each stride of your old legs eats up meters. Over her shoulder, you can see them pouring out of the train behind you like smoke.

Giulia: (panting) "Will! Runes! Ring stuff! Whatever you do, do it now! I can run, but I can't fight Hell's HR department!"

---

WineGodTG:

Will: "Yes, that was— uh— the plan. You carry, I attack. Let me just..."

I fidget, and small energy orbs erupt from my chubby palms, hitting the ghosts.

Will: "Take that, bitches!"

One by one, they dissolve, leaving us alone.

---

The orbs fly out of your hands in a messy, glittering spray, nothing like the clean precision you're used to. Smaller fingers, shorter reach, a totally different center of gravity. But they hit. One phantom bursts like a soap bubble. Then another. The last one, the original with the silver eyes, screams as it unravels, its suit collapsing into ash that drifts down onto the tracks.

Silence. Just the drip of tunnel water and Giulia's ragged breathing.

She slows to a stop at the edge of the Lanza platform and stares down at you.

Giulia: "'Take that, bitches'?"

A beat. Then she bursts out laughing, a big booming laugh in your voice, so hard she nearly drops you.

Giulia: "That was the most me thing I've ever heard. You said it in my voice and everything. Oh my god. I'm putting that on my gravestone."

She hoists you up onto the platform, then climbs up after, sitting heavily on the edge with her long legs dangling over the tracks. The napkin in your tote bag has stopped glowing. It's just a napkin now, a little smudged.

Giulia flexes her hand. The silver ball she absorbed glints faintly under her skin, like a vein of moonlight.

Giulia: "So. Hero stuff done. Hell defeated. Napkin safe."

She looks at the ring on her finger, then at the one on yours.

Giulia: "...How do we switch back? You do know how to switch back, right? Will?"

The ring on your finger feels oddly tight. Like it's settled in.
