How do you feel about bad endings in SoH? A "Bad End" is like a Game Over screen, with a few paragraphs detailing the fate of the main character. The only real "Bad End"s in SoH (so far) were back in Book 1, where (if your attunement was really low) you'd give into your greed or lust for battle.

I restarted quite a few times thinking I could avoid certain characters deaths. Would have looooved to not have to start from the beginning each time...

There’s gotta be a fork in the road for our MC. What road we take in this awesome story would make it even better whether it’s for the good of hyuga or bad! I say yes to bad endings!

OOF YES GIVE ME ALL THE ANGST I WANNA FEEL PAIN also it’s really great knowing that your decisions truly play a part in your ending

If the END (real end) isn't a bad one (my Yuko die and rest of her team too or worse) so yes. But if we going to have a bad end in the end (... j'aime pas cette tournure de phrase) so no. But I trust you.

I really want my ronin to find atonement and enlightenment (and real love, even if it's with Jun/ko ^^) and stay alive to see and taste her evolution. She deserved it. And to her previous life and her victims, I think she owe them to have a good life after her change and work to repair her previous work and help the kids who are in her previous path. Death would be too harsh and too easy. But I want to see her "suffer", she has to deserved her happy end, to work for it (I really love happy end AFTER a story when the hero/main character "en prend plein la gueule" (I don't know how to traduct it), I loved when Jun gut my character and see her survive it and grow up).

I think bad ends can be really interesting...often times I even find I like them better story-wise. I think if they have to sought out (like u have to intentionally make the bad choices), that even more replay value!

Trixi

I really like the idea! I like to replay anyway so it can make things more intruiging if you can truly get different endings!

I’m not entirely a fan of game over’s that end the game prematurely but I’m all for “bad endings” in general. If my ronin makes it through all 6 books that’s satisfying enough for me, regardless if their ending is bittersweet or not. Bad Endings are pretty subjective too, one person may view their end as bad while somebody else may have been gunning for that particular ending from the get go. I have full trust that you‘ll deliver satisfying endings, “good” and “bad”. I lay my fate in your hands, author-san.

I just finished Kaamelott, a serie (french) about king Arthur. It's a parody, but the 2 last season are way more serious... In the end, Arthur, the hero (duh) make an attempt to kill himself out of desperation. Later, Lancelot, deceive by Meleagant has gone mad, had taken the power and has burned the round table. The other knight are chased around Logre to be killed, the lady of lake is banished from heaven to earth, Merlin is on the run, along with Bohort, Perceval, Caradoc and all the other knight. Arthur is forced to flee his former Kingdom and take refuge in Rome, forced to live as a homeless... but at the end he regain himself. He stand and prepare himself. I don't recall seeing a King Arthur more heroic than this one, who have been crushed by despair, who attempt to kill himself, who have lost everything... and take courage to stand up again. Next will be in a movie (can't wait). What I want to say, is that a great hero has to touch the depht of despair to be really great, to stand up again. That's it. I want to see a hero stand and stand and stand again. He can fall, but he will rise again. A hero who doesn't fall is not a hero. It's something that I really want to see in the herofall serie. Seeing my character becoming a hero in the end. I want to see him fall, but I want to see him rise again, greater than ever.

I absolutely despise bad endings (in the sense of game overs). Being thrown out somewhere in the middle because of decisions it considered wrong is like the story itself telling you to fuck yourself and it's also very unlikely that I will pick up the story again afterwards. A bad ending in the sense of a tragic finale can be pretty good but a game over that just throws you out and prevents you from seeing the actual end is the worst thing someone can ever put into a story.

I would love it if the save system was in place. Since it's not, and since the game tends to be satisfyingly long.. no.

L. Gonzales

If there was a save system then they'd be cool! But... without it restarting and getting back to that point is a pain. Especially if it's far into the storyline and if you aren't sure which choices were the tipping point but have very specific characterizations/actions in mind.
