Barbara & Gus join host Jon for a discussion on Vince Gilligan's (Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul) latest TV project, Apple TV+'s Pluribus. Starring Better Call Saul's Rhea Seahorn, Pluribus is a completely original new post-apocalyptic science fiction series that you'll want to watch knowing nothing about going into it. Trust us. So go watch it and then COME BACK here for some Stinky Pop fun.

WARNING: SPOILERS START AT 25:30.

My husband and I watched this when it came out, and I have always said that they are trying to emotionally manipulate. Kinda like a narcissistic partner. I don't think they understand what's best for everyone, just best for themselves. Great show though and I can't wait to keep watching!

Barb, you replied to me and said it took two weeks for you - it only took me 2 days to watch once I started. In fact, I started pretty late on Friday... If I'd started earlier in the night, I don't think I would have stopped watching. Amazing show - it was the January calendar that finally pushed me over the edge to watch, so thank you!! I'm glad I came at it the same as Barb and Gus, no idea what this is about but I'm hearing great things from people I trust, so no need to spoil it with a trailer or synopsis. I'm so fascinated to hear y'all talk about Carol as NOT a hero? The fact that you all were relating and sympathizing with the others? Holy crap. I literally never sympathized with the others. I wasn't annoyed with her in ep 2 with the English speakers, I couldn't believe EVERYONE just accepted this new insane reality and refused to do anything to change their circumstances. AI allegory, yeah for sure. But I was getting fascism in America more than that. Honestly those two things probably go hand-in-hand. Literally, we have 339M people doing nothing while the 1M that remain are trying their best. Carol was the ONE person on Airforce One standing up for free will, everyone else perfectly content to just enjoy the ride while it lasted instead of the hard work of, as Carol and Manusos both say, saving the world. They'd rather sit there and accept the deception. Live in denial for the rest of their (likely very short) lives. I felt like her, like I was going crazy.

Autumn (like the season)

I think they are doing some form of manipulation to Carol considering they found the one person in the world who was a female and who happened to resemble the main character in her book. They even constantly tell her throughout the show that it gets so much better than where Carol is now. Because they already have her stem cells, they can administer the joining to her immediately. Previously they said they wanted her consent but they told Carol she had about a month. That seems to imply that they are going to give it to her no matter what. Their whole purpose is to join the entire human race and to spread the signal which, was written on The whiteboard, that they plan to build a giant satellite to continue the signal back into space... In a sense it seems like alien life forms.

I really enjoyed the ethics + philosophy discussion in this episode and hearing everyone's perspectives on it 😄
