She said “You don’t have to be rich to go SKIING” That’s true, but you do need to spend a bit to rent skis and get a day-pass. If you own your own skis, you’re probably rich-ish.

Day pass is over 100 at the resorts near Denver for one person, and rentals are around 50/day. Then there’s the cost of the outerwear, resort food is absurdly expensive, and to go with a family just compounds all of those costs. Buying your own gear isn’t the biggest expense in skiing, especially if you buy used. Skiing used to be much cheaper, but it is very much a luxury sport these days. Source: industry professional for 15 years.
