Kim Rigg

Last season Kimko and Frenchie had a conversation after they shared a kiss. They basically said that the kiss felt weird and that their relationship is more, setting up a more platonic relationship.

This was a good 1st episode to ease us back into the story… and to morally bring us down. But hey! We found out there might be hope for Ryan, Butcher might be able to free him from Homelander’s influence which I woudn’t have guess given that last scene in season 3. (It also took me a while to remember that Kimiko friend-zoned Frenchie toward the end of last season, which I’m kinda sad about because I was rooting for them to be together during 3 seasons.)

Anyone want to lay bets that Newman caused Hughie's dad to have a stroke? Frenchie and Kamiko talked about their relationship last season and how they both realized that they loved each other, but not romantically. Essentially. I think Sage is loving the ability to enact her theories. She likely feels very powerful by it. She's super smart, but it seems to have replaced empathy. I do wonder about what might happen with Butcher. His time is running out and he won't make it to season 5. Do the rest of The Boys know about the virus?

Ooof, this first episode was really overwhelming for me and maybe that's because of what you said about it being too close to the real world – I had to take a break of a few days before watching the other two they released at the same time. A small thing I enjoyed is Noir 2.0 (NeoNoir?) being dropped in without explanation - you have to work out for yourself that he's employed as a Noir impersonator and he's really bad at it – and he's played by the same actor, Nathan Mitchell, who played OG Noir (also an SPN alum as the angel Kelvin in s12).

I'm so happy this show is finally back! Yes, very depressing start, but wouldn't be the boys any other way. A couple of fun facts about this episode. When they cast the voice of octopus, Kripke said "We need the classiest, Oscar-winningest, British actress we can get our hands on". And they got Tilda Swinton! Also, the reaction Victoria has when she gets the photo from Butcher, was the actress' actual first reaction to the photo (not knowing what she was going to be seeing), so you can see she is trying not to laugh.

What? U mean to tell me a progressive movement gets either co-opted or infiltrated by the establishment (the police, CIA, FBI, or just fascist militias outside agitators) in order to discredit the entire movement as violent and unreasonable? classic, tale as old as time, I remember a Livestream of the students protests at UCLA that caught a clearly undercover cop among the students, I am sure it happened with BLM too, now of course liberal media is gonna cry about the need to denounce direct actions and "offensive slogans" and for all sides to just hold hands and sing kumbaya while the cops crack down on future protests, honestly the only unbelievable part of this episode is that cops were restraining both sides, u know that never happens, they would only be beating down on the starlight protests and any anti-fascists who actually pose a threat to the establishment and the states quo, I am interested in how this show will end, I think it's probably gonna end happily with the boys winning and fascism losing which is of course unrealistic but it's better to have hope at least in fiction where people escape real life, in reality of course it's very difficult to beat fascism coz they have the police, the military and the entire political establishment, there's no rag tag team of saviors rebels with supes to save the planet, every effort to organize gets crushed by the state weaponizing both the police (the violent arm of the state) that is more and more militarized and with the extremely far right judiciary branch, wether it's the supreme court or state courts, it's all rigged towards fascism and union busting and crushing any labor movement or solidarity, very depressing reality indeed

I would like to THINK that Sage has a long-game plan in place that we (and Homeslander) aren't seeing... she is putting final dominoes in place that won't fall until much later that will bring the whole thing down. (Assuming that she actually IS the smartest human on the planet of course.)

Jay

yep I agree she has a long-term game plan - but the question is will it serve her at the expense of everyone else on the planet? I'm worried she's a kind of Ayn Rand figure, if Ayn Rand was smart, and the fall of the dominoes is going to be worse than Homelander
