A total rollercoaster two-part season finale. Your reactions were awesome. Please avoid all spoilers. Think of it like this: Theoretically speaking, Mulder "could" be the father and it could also be a special child at the same time. They are not mutually exclusive. The baby could also be something entirely different, nothing to do with Mulder. It could also be a type of alien, or it could also have absolutely nothing to do with what Krycek or Lizzie talked about and be just a regular normal child... except for the conception of course. There are tons of possibilities. Whoever said to you "the disc is gonna come back" or whatever, I'd rather not comment, but it obviously negatively impacted your enjoyment of this episode. It is also very important to remember that there is the original series (S1-S9) and the two revival seasons which came many years later, after the second movie. These two (original series and the revival) are by many, myself included, perceived as totally separate things. Some are fans of both, some are fans of only the original. I belong in the latter group. Can't wait for part two, "Existence".

... and I forgot to add in my last post. Regardless of Krycek's motivations, as we don't know what they are at this point, I too find it a gigantic out-of-character moment for Mulder to see it as a good idea to have Krycek protect Scully. It's in my top five (or even top three) out-of-character moments in the entire original series. Now regarding the medication Lizzie switched, you might've missed it, but the female doctor told Scully they were just vitamin pills.

You're right. They never ended a season with a full twoparter before. But I don't agree, that this season has more mytharc compared to the others. The pacing is just very different. RIGHT NOW there's a lot of mytharc squeezed together (since Mulders comeback), but the first half of the season had almost nothing mytharc related, it was MOTW after MOTW after MOTW. I think it's just a very different pacing this time, mostly because of David Duchovny. 🙈 But if you count the amount of mytharc episodes, it's quite an normal season, with 3 twoparters and 3 single mytharc-ep's.

Within, Without, The Gift, Per Manum, This Is Not Happening, Deadalive, Three Words, Vienen, Essence, Existence. Half the season, really. Plus some Mulder references in episodes like Patience and Badlaa, the season overall feels IMO more serialized, similar to season six.

It's definately more mytharc than season seven, but quite the same as older seasons (season 4, season 5)

Not quite. Season five, with 20 total episodes, had 7 mytharc episodes. Season four had indeed 10 mytharc episodes... but therefore 24 episodes total. Even season three had 7 mytharc episodes and with 24 episodes total.

So about Mulder giving Scully over to Krycek. I think you can see the pain and stress on his face when he handed Scully to Krycek. He understood the threat that Billy Miles posed was even greater Krycek. He also realized that there was nothing he could do to protect Scully from Billy Miles as Billy Miles was basically unstoppable. He didn't have time to think it through and a split second he decided the better option was to give Scully over to Krycek and allow himself and Skinner to hopefully be a diversion.
