William is a super soldier with Alien DNA!!! When Scully was Abducted in season 2 they harvested her eggs. In season 7 when she was abducted a second time the smoking man implanted the embryo that was William into Scully. It was William that caused Scully to become pregnant with Mulders child since he had the power to make it happen!!! I would love to hear what your top ten favorite episodes for the entire series are?????

Posted this earlier in the wrong place. I just want to thank you both sincerely for all of your X-Files reactions. Thank you so much for sticking with it right through. I watch quite a few X-Files reactors and IMO, you two are the very best. You have such a great balance with your humour, your emotional reactions and your intelligence. I am in the UK. I am isolated due to disability and your reactions have been something that I have looked forward to every week. Some reactions, (Bad Blood!) I have watched many times. I've never had the chance to watch The X-Files with anyone, but you did the next best thing for me. I rank watching your reactions up there with my top X-Files experiences, along with meeting David, Gillian and Chris Carter. Thank you so much. My world has been a better place because of sharing The X-Files with you both.

Oh, you're so right. Of course The X Files is a franchise. It maybe never got that big as such, but there clearly was the intention to create something like that, during a time period (90ies) only Star Trek did it with great success. Would be ignorant, to deny that. But the thing is, a lot of fans weren't really interested in the bigger picture of it. That's why still a lot of fans say:"It's only X Files with Mulder and Scully." and that's a shame. Of course I get the love for Mulder and Scully, but sometimes it seems like everything else get's devalued by fans, immediately when they try something different. I think the side characters of the show never got the love they deserved, even though they were well written and perfectly casted. When they made episodes that were CSM or Gunmen centric, people didn't really care. A lot of fans still skip these episodes. Even though those episodes were highly regarded by critics. Fans said:"Oh, we love them as supporting characters, but they can't carry an episode on their own." Wrong. I think they have proven the opposite. 🤷🏽‍♂️ "Musings of a cigarette smoking man" earned the shows very first emmy nomination, and was put in the alltime X Files top ten, by reviewers. A show like Millennium always had a strong fanbase and still has. There are podcasts and facebook groups, but a lot of people there aren't even X Files fans, but only Millennium fans. I remember people liking "The Lone Gunmen" show, when it first aired in germany, because it wasn't like the X Files, while actual X Files fans didn't care much for it. Doggett and Reyes never were really accepted by fans (won't talk about the parallel universe Reyes in the revival 😅) I think what they should have done, was to end the show after season 8, to create a spinoff centered around Doggett and Reyes, with their own myth-arc. However, even if they would have done that, people would not have cared about it. I have a lot of ideas of possible spinoffs for the show. They could do a whole show about Arthur Dales, who worked on the X Files in the 50ies. They could show young CSM, young Mulders father, young Mulders mom in that show. I know, people would not be interested. Maybe new fans, but not the X Philes. X Files fans are very narrow minded, when it comes to, what that show is. They are interested in Mulder and Scully. That's okay. But they aren't really interested in the Universe that show created around them. Or just maybe not enough to give it more space. The Ryan Coogler show is on an impossible mission to please old fans. Maybe he will attract new fans, who never watched the original, but will do out of curiosity, because they like Cooglers show.

Wolfgang Engel

So here are my 2 questions: 1) Which character or characters left the most impression on you, beside Mulder, Scully and Skinner? 2) If you could create an X Files spinoff, what would it be?

MCJS

An interesting post, but you make the same mistake that many people do. You say things are right or wrong and you make statements about The X-Files fans as a whole. First, you need to accept that your statements are just your subjective views, just as mine are. You are not stating, 'The Truth (!)' you are giving your opinion. (Maybe you know that but it doesn't come across to me when I read this post.) Second, you cannot know what The X-Files fandom as a whole thinks, those views are generalisations you have extrapolated from a small sample of views you have read or heard. We all have our own firmly held views and beliefs about this show and that is exactly how it should be. We all believe that we are right. Fine. Just let's not think that we have the right view and others don't. Let's just all accept that we have our own opinions and leave it at that. I don't see the need for trying to see one viewpoint as more correct than others. I don't mean to sound harsh, I just think we all need the space to enjoy the show and have our own theories and beliefs. I'd prefer we support each other in that and just agree to disagree. My view of the show overall is very different to yours, but that's fine. As for the, 'reboot,' I don’t see why Coogler doesn't just make his own show and give it its own original name. P.S. I have enjoyed reading your comments throughout the reactions.

Wolfgang Engel

Okay, fair enough. I don't want to generalize this, it's just the tendency I perceive, and I'm really under the impression, that the majority of X Files fans feel like this, because of my experiences with online communities since the 90ies, fan literature, and even around here. Doesn't mean I'm not open to discuss my views. I'm an X Files fan myself, that already implies, that my intention is not to generalize, even though it might read like that. It's not even meant to be attacking, or criticising. But it definately is a sigh of frustration. Always been excited when they tried to expand the franchise, but I always felt like it won't work with the fandom. Often feel a bit alienated within this fandom. 😅

MCJS

After all this, I am not going to comment on this episode, I am just going to make an overall statement: I love The X-Files. It changed my life, in fact it saved my life and I am very thankful for it.

Wolfgang Engel

I feel no need to comment on this episode. Thank you for these reactions. I think you were the first reacting to The X Files on Youtube, 5 or 6 years ago. Many followed, some gave up, no one did it better than you. Your reviews were fun, you also put a lot thought into them, you treated our favorite show with a lot of respect. Thanks.

Wolfgang Engel

Fun fact: One of the girls in this episode was played by West Duchovny. Davids daughter. It was the fourth time, a family member of Duchovny starred in the show. 1. Amram Duchovny in the pilot, season 1. (Davids father) 2. Daniel Duchovny in "The Unnatural", season 6. (Davids brother) 3. Tea Leonie in "Hollywood A.D.", season 7 (Davids ex-wife)

MCJS

Excellent observations!

I think you put it perfectly, this last episode leaves a shit taste in the mouth..it's infuriating. that's why I repressed and ignored this season until this rewatch, but it was super fun to follow along these reactions. Thank you for the time and effort to put these up, it was a fun ride. And I'm here for the reboot, hope Gillian is actually involved and not just behind the scenes, Scully deserves better then this ending we got.

Scully disowns William in a matter of seconds because she has concluded that he was just an experiment. The first problem with this is that she comes to such a conclusion based on merely hearsay, a story Skinner had told her in the car. She has no way of verifying Skinner’s story, and Skinner himself really has nothing except CSM’s words on the matter. The words of a liar and a murderer. Yet Scully, despite always having been this huge skeptic and scientific person who has always demanded proof, now accepts Skinner’s / CSM’s “truth about William” without question, and disowns him… just like that. The second, much larger problem with this, is more complex, and requires going back to the original series. In order to see the absurdity, we just need to compare Emily, Scully’s daughter from season 5, to William. Emily, first seen in “Christmas Carol,” was Scully’s biological daughter, but she was actually just an experiment. She was a girl Scully had just spent a very short amount of time with, yet she’s had great difficulty getting over her death, mourned her and even saw visions of her in episode “All Souls.” Contrary to Emily, William was a boy whose pregnancy and birth Scully clearly remembered, someone she had named after Bill Mulder, someone she had spent a significant amount of time with, and someone she protected, nursed and held in her arms. She gave him up for adoption and later regretted it, shared a telepathic connection with him, searched for him, and finally found him. Yet, despite all of that, she decides William needs to go his own separate way because, well, she heard a story from Skinner, and secondly because she’s pregnant with a new baby. Carter seems to think that Scully disowning William is justifiable because (a) she was just an incubator / raped by CSM (despite her not seeing any proof), and (b) because there’s a “replacement baby” on the way. But taking what I’ve said into consideration, it’s really not justifiable in any way, shape or form. It’s insulting on so many levels, because this isn’t Dana Scully we’re watching on screen. William as a character is pretty unlikable, too. He causes car crashes like D.P.O., almost scares a truck driver to death for no reason, pulls dangerous pranks on his two girlfriends that almost get them killed, and doesn’t really express much sadness after the murder of his adoptive parents. I guess Sociopath!William was created to make people less angry after Scully disowns him. It doesn’t really work though.

Thank you, Shelley and Emily, for your very enjoyable X-Files journey! :) I will continue supporting your channel throughout the Lone Gunmen series as well. The X-Files ended for me with the original series finale and second feature film. As for the revival, I am happy for anyone who can enjoy it, but unfortunately I am unable to enjoy it for many reasons. I've written a very long essay, some call it a thesis, which you can read if you're interested under this link: https://xfilesanalysis.wordpress.com/2019/03/22/how-the-x-files-revival-betrays-the-original-series/ And I've pretty much received nothing but very positive feedback on it. I tried to cover everything in the revival from start to finish. So if you're ever bored and want to read a passionate fan's analysis of the revival, you can do so under that link.

About Scully’s new baby, Chris Carter said, if they had done season 12: “We always have the show in real time, so I would imagine that if we come back, there would be a passage of time, and Scully would have had that baby – or not. We might find out things about that child that are unexpected as well, so there are lots of unanswered questions and interesting things there.” (Den of Geek, Gem Wheeler – July 16, 2018)

Well, let´s just pretend this one never existed, right?! At least it´s what I use to do. I´m here to thank you girls, a lot! This was an incredible journey and I´ll miss you 2 so much!! (still hoping for the fan contents reacts, don´t mind me >_<) You did a great job! X Files is so much more than any bs CC wants it to be, because it lives free in our minds and hearts, so we can, in fact, chose the best ending ;) For the Wrap Up: - Would you watch the reboot without Gillian and David? Or with just one of then? - Despite everything, do you think the revival was worth it? (I personally do!) - If you were in charge, how would you explore the show's mythology in the revival (seasons 10 and 11)? Love<3

Tre

Gillian Anderson also had her family members on the show as well. Her younger sister played teenage Dana Scully (braces) in the Christmas Carol/Emily episode. And her sons was in one revival episodes. I think it's the one about A.I. Langley. The scene with them on the bus.

Tre

For answer to number 2. I truly wished that the studio had allowed them to continue on with the Myth Arc/ On the Run plot for the I Want To Believe movie and we have a totally different X-Files now vs what we go in the the revival season.

Nella Rogers

I accept that CSM is William’s father as it makes sense to me!!! William was never an ordinary child or person and back in the original series it was made known that because of Scully’s original abduction in season 2 she was unable to have children!!! I think is was William who made it possible for Scully to have her own child with Mulder since he understood she would never be able to let go of him without her own child!!! Also I loved all of the X files revival including the My Struggle episodes!!! Also I would hope that this new child that Scully and Mulder are having would be a completely normal child without any special powers at all and no super soldiers showing up when it is born!!! Finally I would love to hear what Emily and Shelley’s top ten episodes for the entire series are!!!

MCJS

I disagree. I think Mulder is William's father. We can't believe anything CSM says, he's a liar.

Baconbob23

Thank you for these years. It has been a pleasure💛best of luck to all of you! I’ve watched this show for 32 years now, since I was a child and I’m okay to leave future Mulder and Scully to our own head-canons…they have been done so dirty time and time again. I don’t trust anyone😉 We will never get what we want or what Mulder and Scully deserves. This is the X-Files, after all. Remember how it was. Remember how good it was.

Just been watching all of your reactions and joined your patreon to see your reaction to one of the most disappointing finales ever. I for one welcome Ryan Coogler even if David and Gillian aren't involved I hope he brings back the creepy tone this series definitely needs back maybe it's time for some new characters and new stories it's definitely going to suffer if it;s in the hands of Carter I was watching his interview with Duchovney on his podcast and he was defending the My Struggles claiming no one really got it but what is there to get? Honestly the series had the perfect ending at Season 5 imo tho there were some fun episodes after that even in the reboot but still this is a classic example of someone not knowing how to end their series. I hope Coogler brings back Darin Morgan and Vince Gilligan at the very least because their episodes were simply the best!
