The thing about being in a deterministic universe is that it BY DEFINITION does not need people driving forward at it in an attempt to fulfill prophecy. If things can ONLY happen one way anyway, just do whatever you like and it will sort itself out that way without you trying to force shit one way or another... so DON'T DO IT! Demanding that YOU have to make choices because the eternally predetermined reality of all existence somehow hinges on the specifics of YOUR choices and actions makes you a narcissistic sociopath, above and beyond having a full-on savior complex.

I'm sometimes torn about the concept of prophesy/destiny in literature. Sometimes it feels a little like an "out" for the authors, telegraphing to the consumers of the literature what's going to happen. And sometimes it feels more like a way of communicating backstory/influences on the characters. For example, there are a number of people in our Real World who behave the way they do because they believe they are following their respective religious texts. This is despite the fact that there is no proof of the existence of deities outside of those religious texts. * Every consumer of literature is going to feel differently. In the end, I don't think there's a single "right" answer. * Sorry, Believers, but personally, I've studied many religions, and haven't found any that satisfy my curiosity about "miracles", "visions", etc. as proof. You believe what you want, I'll believe (or not) what I do.

Oh, and regarding the "This has happened before, this will happen again," don't forget the quote often attributed to George Santayana: "Those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it" Both BSG and B5 (which is what brought me to your Patreon) play heavily on this theme.
