Jared switched the regular jerky with actual ghost pepper jerky, you can see it in Jared’s face during the out of focus moments

I love the actress that played Lilith. She was masterful at playing both the scared, traumatized girl and sassy Lilith.

Jay

Yes, she was brilliant!

I appreciated this episode so much more on rewatch, there's so many little details. The production design is gorgeous - eg the old-school motel with its hunting motifs - which reinforces my thought that the daytime ghosts in the first 3 episodes were tacky and cheap deliberately. And Lilith is so much more fun than Lucifer as an antagonist. The New International Version of the Bible translates Proverbs 17:3 as: The crucible for silver and the furnace for gold, but the Lord tests the heart. At the end of the episode Dean is wearing a yellow-gold shirt that we've never seen before (or will again) - he's in the furnace, like he was in Sam's first vision this episode (and his mouth was after eating the ghost pepper jerky). In the last episode, there was a quote from Robert Frost about "nothing gold can stay". Ominous! And the next episode is called Golden Time... The werewolf says both his brother and him are monsters, and both Sam's visions this ep – Samifer and Demon Dean – are of outcomes when both brothers were monstrous (in 5.04, FutureDean has become bitter, ruthless and brutal; at the start of s10, Sam traps a man into selling his soul and tortures a demon in a way that seems psychotic).

If we look back at that last scene after Sam and Dean had their BM scene, as the camera zooms out (the camera is in the position where the huge telescope is), we can see the edge of curtains at the left and right of the frame border of the scene, as if emphasizing that Sam and Dean are still in a play, like on a stage play, i.e. Chuck's play ...

I'm not a big fan of this episode, I do like the talk at the end and Sam's dreams.

ooh I've never noticed that before, that's a good observation

This episode made me want to rewatch the whole show from Chuck's perspective. If that's the ending he likes - how many times has he tried to make it happen. When I first rewatched it I would say 'damn it Chuck' whenever I thought he was interfering on different parts of episodes lol. I also had your thoughts of 'this is weird' and not just because of the time in the episode. It WAS too easy, but it also felt SO cliche you knew something was up. The flashback to the old fake IDs... you can tell they're in the final season when they do stuff like that!

Episodes that start as normal MOTW episodes and end up being something else are Steve yocky trade mark, this is his last episode for the show, he did a wonderful job writing for supernatural and I loved every minute of it, the writers said we have to destroy that deux ex machina gun we gave dean last season coz chuck said it can kill anything if the shooter is willing to die as well so can't let killing chuck be that easy and obvious, I love the usage of a devil trap bullet, we haven't seen those since we used one on Abaddon. The only thing that annoys me a bit about this episode and feels like a retcon to me is chuck bringing back demons from the empty when the empty told cas in season 13 that God doesn't have any control over the empty. Loved the actress portrayal of Lilith, she did a great job, Sam was only able to kill Lilith the first time because she wanted him to kill her, she's even stronger than Abaddon. I miss cas so much and clearly so does Sam, poor guy have no idea why his best friend just ditched them because dean doesn't communicate ever 😭.

Great reaction. Fabulous episode! Lilith?!! I was so surprised to see her, and everyone is right, the actress did a fabulous job with both sides of the character. The meta on top of meta in this episode killed me, but I loved it. Enjoying the season with you!

The actress who plays the Sheriff also played Tara in 9x11 "First Born". I love how they recycle actors a few times. How does Dean make eating Ghost Pepper Jerky look both goofy/adorable and sexy at the same time???

I loved Anna Grace Barlow's portrayal of Lilith...it might be my favorite version.
