Yeah, that treatment of female actors in the show was really embarrassing still ... it's really disappointing how some parts of the fandom behaved towards them. Even Shoshannah Stern (Eileen) did not escape that treatment and was boldly told right to her face in an interview that basically 'fans don't want female love interests for the Winchester boys' crap ... being told stuff like the following:- " ... while I actually hope that the show never tries to add an actual romantic relationship to Sam or Dean’s lives–because I just don’t think it’s that show or that it makes sense for the way the Winchesters live–I do really hope that Eileen survives and returns. And I wouldn’t mind more of that flirting." ... via link: https://fangasmthebook.com/2017/04/26/a-chat-with-shoshannah-stern-bringing-kickass-hunter-eileen-back-to-supernatural/ Shoshannah even had to sort of distance herself from the role of Eileen and put a disclaimer (basically repeated what that "fandom" representative had told her during that interview, as if that is the view of the fandom as a whole) in that "fandom" book. Extract of what Shosh had written in her section of that book:- "... the character who was going to be a hunter who was deaf, she would be hopefully be recurring, she might possibly be a love interest of Sam --- Okay I know some of you are probably throwing tomatoes at my head right now. If I am being completely honest, which is basically always, I am still not sure if it makes sense for Sam to have a love interest with the way his life is, so I get it. But it wasn't like it was a choice I personally made. That was in the character description they sent to me from the beginning. Okay?" from "There'll be peace when you're done" book, page 40, which came out on May 5, 2020. ETA1: see what I mean? ... she repeated what she had been told back in the day (April 26, 2017) during that S12 interview ... ETA2: In case people hadn't made the connection, the writer of the interview and the author of the "fandom" book mentioned above, are the same person ... yeah ... all that. In a book about fandom by a so-called "fandom" representative ... ETA3: Shoshannah eventually walked back out from being a disabled representative on Jan 16, 2021 (is this the correct term to use? I'm not that well versed in the proper pc terms in the US) from the show - i.e. being a deaf hunter - but that's the story for another day as it was precipitated by (imo) source articles and fans' response to one of those sources that hinged on S15 Spoilers ... via link: (Spoilers alert) ... https://twitter.com/Shoshannah7/status/1350596467560308736

I love that samwena Sam/Madison parallel so much with Rowena saying to Sam it has to be you that kills me very similar to Madison telling Sam that it has to be that way and that she would want Sam to be the one to do it, Sam having to kill Madison was very tragic same as him having to kill Rowena. Like you I love both samwena and saileen almost on the same level. I think a lot of the reason for how female characters were treated by the fandom is lots of internalized misogyny but most importantly lots of fans fantasized about being with Sam or dean so much so that they couldn't separate fiction from reality, I am so glad I am not into that deep, I can adore the characters without wanting to fuck them and see any love interest as a threat to that, I ultimately just want the characters I love to be happy, I always say supernatural was so misogynistic that it accidentally turned gay, you just had to be there. It wasn't only Sara gamble's decision to fire Misha and kill cas it was both her and Bob singer, Misha said it so clear here that it was both of them agreeing on that, it was such a stupid decision that even the network was like hey wait a sec, it's hilarious that Misha ended up outliving Sara gamble on the show in the end but it must have been awkward having to work with Bob singer again 😬. Sam really lost every woman he ever liked, it's so annoying actually, no wonder he was a bit hesitant with Eileen, I mean, he already lost her once before. I love how talented this cast is, gil has a beautiful voice, supernatural could've really did a true musical episode, their cast is so talented, Jared and Misha can't sing but there are many of the cast who can

Vel

Jared can sing, actually. He did a song on "Jason Manns Christmas with Friends" album. I don't remember which con it was, but JM talked about how impressed he was because he nailed the song in one take. I have heard that he doesn't like to sing in front of people. But it's not that he can't do it. ETA: If you want to talk about misogyny, how about the fact that the only female showrunner was booted out before the end of S7. But LBR...it was the best thing that could have happened to her with all the successful shows she's done since.

Hasnaa

Being able to carry a tune and being able to sing are not the same thing, I know both Jared and Misha can technically sing but it doesn't mean they sound good, they're not Jensen

Vel

Preferences with music are subjective. But you're right, Hasnaa... Jason Manns, who is far more talented than Jensen and has had, OBJECTIVELY, a longer career in music has NO IDEA what he's talking about.

Vel

I couldn't roll my eyes any harder if I tried, Sare. LMAO.

Hasnaa

Saying Jason is far more talented than Jensen is your opinion it's not a fact, I think Jensen is more talented than Jason, instead of acting like I killed your pet or called Jared names by saying someone can't sing, how about you stay away from my comments like I asked you many times before, you can roll your eyes and scroll without letting me know coz I couldn't care less, spare me your "well, actually".

I've always believed that the show did the wrong thing by listening to the loud - yet small - group of haters who didn't want any females in the show that might, in any way, be a potential live interest for either Sam or Dean. As in everything else, a small group can make enough noise to drown out everyone else. They get the attention. Only a very very small percentage of the fans were going online and interacting, sharing, and voicing opinions. The fact that it seemed like a lot shows how popular the show was as an underground favorite of viewers everywhere. Many weren't very active online though. That's how it was for me for many years. Until season 12.

I think you replied to the wrong fan content video

ETA4: I finally found the article where Shosh said she was proud that Eileen was a good representative for the disabled and a viable love interest for the main lead. "... I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a deaf person kick ass the way that Eileen does and I’ve certainly never played that before. Deaf or disabled people are usually the victim, not the one who rescues. The fact that she is such a viable love interest is not insignificant either. So many times people don’t see people with disabilities as feasible relationship material. Because of that they’re often desexualized and written off, especially in that particular sort of way, but it’s something that is so central to the human experience, and it’s something that people deserve to have if they’re so inclined. And so the fact that the main character of the show is interested in a deaf woman in that way is something that I believe is the opposite of reductive. It’s enhancing, not just for the a character, but for young people with disabilities in the audience. I hope they see themselves the way that Sam sees Eileen and realize that they can, should, and will be seen that way by people that are important to them and to the world, because that carries an inordinate amount of weight." via link: https://variety.com/2020/tv/news/supernatural-shoshannah-stern-this-close-eileen-sam-chuck-final-season-interview-1203474955/ The above-mentioned article was on January 29, 2020 Nearly a year later she walked back out from being proud of being the deaf representative ... Poor interviewers in Australia who tried to research as prep for those spots and are trying to get a few lines out before the boys come in and make it even chaotic cracks me up! - "When Dean sold his soul to a crossroads demon in exchange for Sam's life-" - "Eh?'" - "Just stick with me." When Jensen is talking about the end of the series being the 4th and then at season 5, I love that they zoomed in on Misha staring at him just like Cas does to Dean. Then in the second one with Jared and Misha, they were cracking jokes that were flying over the interviewers heads and making eyes at each other as well. J2M are just so naturally comfortable, funny and adorable together that I would LOVE to see them in the white house.
