It's a bit of a spiritual sequel to the Woody Allen Club Random, as Bill Maher has another guest he claims a deep respect for while also being a fuckin' little rude ass to them. Past guest Al Worth returns to my show, and I am NOT a little rude ass to them, so a point for Will Weldon. Al brings their knowledge as both a musician AND a Billy Joel fan, which is good because I don't know much about the guy, whereas Al at one point points out that Bill Maher fundamentally misunderstands one of Billy Joel's own songs, and Billy Joel is just like "yeah, whatever man." Also, I'm realizing that three of the four people involved in this episode are named "William". Ha ha, sensational!

Bill: "I saw it happen to Stairway to Heaven. Once of the greatest songs ever. And the song didn't change." I assumed that the next thing he said would be "The song remains the same." Maybe he doesn't have any other Led Zeppelin on his iPod (I call it the magic music box 😏)

Dude bill Maher clearly needs to be taking to a therapist not a guest

Oh fuck yes! Al, Al, Al!!

I’m four minutes in. It is very funny. How many times do you have to emphasize when this was recorded. Im going to hell.

Cclear: watch He Walked by Night (1948)

Speaking of physical media, one of my students walked in with a discman the other day. Remember those? I was so proud of them. Also, I recently bought a VHS/DVD combo because there was a movie I wanted to see which was only on VHS. I remember listening to the music stations on DirecTV on my TV.

I hope the Li-ion battery in his old iPod pops so all he gets when he turns it on is the black screen of death thing

When Al says "Yeah... I've dealt with Charlie Kirk." 😳

I was delighted to hear Operation Ivy mentioned. I love that album. Another great band that doesn't have much of a discography is Television. They only put out two albums and they're masterpieces.

How has that not happened already? I haven't seen a new iPod in over a decade.

Technology has been kicking Billy Joel's ass since the year 2000, when he did a tour stop at my college. He was pretty wasted (just before rehab) and was supposed to do q &a. Someone asked about Napster (because it was olden days) and he gave a rambling response about using his daughters computer and accidentally ending up on a porn site. it was uncomfortable and he forgot the words to piano man, so I'm glad to hear he's doing quantifiably better here, except for having to listen to BM.

I know right?!

It was actually Billy Joel that brought up Cream Wheels of Fire. Bill immediately made a face like he just ate a sour lemon. Clearly Billy Joel loves 60s hard psychedelic rock, Bill doesn’t. MULTIPLE times now Bill has mentioned to rock legends like John Fogerty and Chris Robinson that he’s not into Jimi Hendrix lol. There are a plethora of reasons to hate Bill Maher, not liking Hendrix is in my top 5. It might be #1. Also, American Pie is one of my least favorite songs ever! Insufferable to listen to.

Marquee Moon is amazing! And you’re right the follow up gets overlooked too.

Shawn R

Like them or not, Nirvana is without question one of the biggest and most influential rock bands ever. They have 3 proper studio albums. Led Zeppelin has 8 studio albums. Cream has 3.5 studio albums (Goodbye is half live half studio). Most of the great punk/New Wave bands only released a few albums. I could go on and on. Bill Maher is an idiot.

Chuck Grape

While I kind of like Marquee Moon more, I think it's probably as good of an album as Adventure.

Doll House

they r still doing it tho

Doll House

that one is blocked but i think i found it is it the one where she has a wig on??? its so perfect. he tries to mock her but it DOES NOT work

Doll House

the way bill talks without shame about the pedo song he tried and faileed to write ... jesus!!!!!!
