I was talking to my dad about the memes and I just said “please just trust me that they don’t mean anything and please do not ask me to explain why.”

MackJ

It’s bad enough I have to know the things I know, I don’t need my dad to know I know them.

No need to feel bad, tech issues are an honest mistake not a flub

This episode's "ALF-CIO" moment: John: "No ballpark in the United States has public transportation going to it"

Andrew Duvall

The "Klaus Bar-B-Q" joke is a pun on Klaus Barbie, not just a reference to Klaus being a German name.

John Hastings is always so great on episodes. I hope he's back as often as possible, until he goes mad from psychic damage.

Every now and then I get a glimpse of what I used to like about BM. I guess I have a bit of the early 2000s atheist in me still. The line mocking how people pray expecting results was sort of a clapping moment for me, but even when I agree with him, it's just not funny. He's more like a political pundit who's wrong 90% of the time

mrg

st louis ballpark is right in downtown. but this is more a comment on the property value of st louis downtown.

I grew up in white collar cowboy country, so "fan" would be the wrong word

I'm paused at 1:05 in the episode, and I just wanted to share a story that the "calling someone Hitler" discussion led me to recall. Wandering in NYC with a friend in 1986, shortly after the Reagan administration had bombed Libya, we stumbled upon a protest at the cube sculpture, in Astor Place. Folks were chanting, "Ronald Reagan, Hitler of the hour, prime example of US power." And then they burned an American flag on the cube.

Sam Blackman

this is a depositional statement on behalf of the Oompa-Loompas Darth 🅱️ill has been keeping locked in his studio to write his jokes after the original writers all either quit or burnt out their brains trying to come up with a joke that lands.

Sam Blackman

the ends do, in fact, justify the meme.

Sam Blackman

lmfao yeah that one got preempted

Sam Blackman

there’s in fact one ballpark in the U.S. that’s in a city with public transit going near it, Fenway. It’s the only one I’ve ever been to so I actually got that one but it says something even more ridiculous about 🅱️ill… this is a man who famously lives in LA and has for decades but seems to genuinely think only in terms of Boston. He’s so fucking dumb he doesn’t even know what side of the bloody continent he’s on…

Cclear: watch He Walked by Night (1948)

I got interested and started looking this up. I'm surprised how many stadiums are accessible by metro. You can take the metro to Wrigley Field and Rate Field (White Sox) in Chicago, Comerica Park (Tigers) in Detroit, Busch Stadium (Cardinals) in St. Louis, Chase Field (Diamondbacks) in Phoenix, Petco Park (Padres) in San Diego, Oracle Park (Giants) in San Francisco, T Mobile Park (Mariners) in Seattle, Target Field (Twins) in Minneapolis, Oriole Park in Baltimore, Coors Field in Denver & Great American Ball Park (Reds) in Cincinnati

I hate to be the one to completely destroy this podcast, but there are several ballparks in main parts of cities. Many were built within the last 20 years. I think cities with ballparks in the suburbs or the outskirts did that mostly because of space limitations and accessibility, not so much the cost. A lot of those were built before real estate prices got ridiculous, like LA and KC's ballparks. Cities are willing to pay anything for a ballpark these days and a lot of them want those ballparks downtown.

Sam Blackman

oh shit that’s pleasantly surprising! I think I knew about Wrigley and Oriole but my New England brainworms took over and occluded the truth from me like I was RFK but without the power of the state behind me and about urban design lol

Sam Blackman

the funniest thing about this though, is that still NOT ONE OF THESE ARE IN L.A. 😆☠️
