I remember my expectations for 1985's Sara being rock bottom and then being pleasantly surprised, so it just makes sense that I thought 1987's Showtime sitcom Hard Knocks might be a little boundary pushing and interesting and it actually just ended up being shit. Comedian/Game Designer Casey Malone joined the show to talk about the experience of watching a show get worse and less interesting over the course of three episodes.

The Chicago Tribune’s TV critic (not Gene Siskel) wasn’t a fan, either: “Before long, it becomes apparent that ‘Hard Knocks’…makes programmers at the three networks look like charter members of MENSA. The writing is woeful, the characters are unappealing—especially a whiny-voiced cook/ex-con named Silky [James Vallely]—and the premise infantile.”

I fell asleep listening to this and I honestly don’t know where Hard Knocks ended and my COVID fever dreams began

I saw another pilot with Bill Maher (there's several) where he holds a gun and noticed how unnatural he looks with a gun. Maybe he had never held a gun in the 80s, but it's still pretty bad. It's not just that he doesn't look like he's never held a gun before. It's like he doesn't know what a gun is or does. He just knows that cops point them at the bad guys. Why would anybody keep their arms and wrists completely loose when they are holding something that is going to make an explosion and fire a projectile?
