You're a hero for suffering through this. I CANNOT imagine listening to any of his bullshit without someone constantly interrupting who is losing his mind with me. Good lord. What I can't believe is that nobody stops him and says, "Hey, Bill. You have to stop saying the same shit over and over and over again." And it's not so much that he keeps saying "woke," it's that on the hard /k/ you can hear the phlegm in his throat. I need some much worse headphones to listen to your show on so that I don't have to yell "UUGGHHAAAA!" every time he says it. Fuck. FUCK! But seriously, name names. What the fuck are you talking about ? What the fuck is "wokeism"? What the fuck? Find a new way to say it.

I'm replying to myself because I can't stand this. He now is talking like a 50s Red Scare lunatic talking about "commanists" or like a preacher talking about a literal satan who is in the world doing mischief. This IS the Salem Witch Trials mentality. Just come up with a scape goat to put all of these things you don't like onto, don't really operationalize it at all, just get everyone to agree that the people you're talking about do these bad things, then once we all agree that witches or woke or commanists are bad, you throw that label at someone and they can be pilloried for all of the things we know that people in that group do because we've been saying it over and over and over again. It's happening with antifascists and it's happening to anyone who says or is anything that fits into "wooooke." I mean, fuck, he just called Ireland "crazy woke" because they had a gay, Indian PM. It doesn't matter what he actually believes, what his policies are, because he fits into two of a million categories that fall into his amorphous blob of "woke," he's woke. By extension, all of Ireland is crazy woke. Fuck. It's just simple-minded bullshit that contributes to almost all forms of hate outside of personal animosity.

I think, yeah, he thinks is funny. I think that's why he mispronounces Mamdani's name, too. Kind of like how GHW Bush mispronounced "Saddam" so that it sounded like "Sodom." But, ostensibly, there's no reason to antagonize Mamdani (if he's even aware of Maher...) other than bill's being a bigot.

I grew up in Germany but have lived in Ireland now since 2006 (yup, over 35) and I can tell you the Irish are very pro-Palestinian and certainly don't love Bill Maher at all

I'm listening to the original Club Random episode before I listen to the pod. I'm enjoying the conversation on Double Indemnity. The part where he says the golden anklet gives the man wood like crazy was pretty funny. It was really odd but I guess that was the time. I haven't heard a "protesting FOR Hamas" yet unfortunately, but he did mention something about "the woke train" or something. He already flirted with her. I knew that would come. She also has a way of disagreeing with him in a way that doesn't make him feel threatened which I find amusing.

Also, I should add that I've never come across so many open unashamed racists as I have in Ireland, especially towards black people, it's honestly sickening. So yeah it's not all rosy for sure

Honestly Maureen has great taste in movies. The next one BM talks about is Out of the Past which one of them I forgot who describes as the perfect noir film. I would agree with that. The funny thing is he says Body Heat which is a loose remake of Double Indemnity, is way better. What a ridiculous thing to say. Then he goes on to describe how much sex and nudity there is in it and how much he loved that so yeah that's why he liked it

Wow. Have you ever been to Israel? I went to get to the West Bank & there was a picture of Obama as Bin Laden hung up on a pole. That was the tip of the iceberg. I saw Palestinians living in a tent on the street in Sheikh Jarrah, outside of their home they were kicked out of by settlers who were now in it. I didn't notice that when I was in Ireland but I can believe it. I saw a video where they were interviewing poor & homeless Irish people, and of course they blamed the government supposedly spending lavishly on refugees for their problems. It's such a classic maneuver to scapegoat the vulnerable to mistrect anger away the people at the top. I have read that by different measures Bulgaria or Finland are considered the most racist countries in Europe. I mean the UK is so racist, they are racist against Romanians, Bulgarians, Polish etc.
