It's so crazy to put an exclamation mark at the end of "Bill Maher Talks to Kids" if that exclamation mark is not also followed by a question mark, another exclamation mark, and then a series of skull emojis.

Now, you may be looking at the title and thinking "Wait, didn't Will already talk about 'Talks too Kids!!!!!!!!!!!!!' back when it first came out? And you're correct, I did. But it was early in the podcast, I hadn't keyed in to just how much of this thing was weird and/or reprehensible, and I also was like "A guest. A guest should also experience this. So I had Boonta Vista co-host Lucy Valentine join me to talk about this, essentially her first encounter with Bill Maher ever, and I gotta say... I think she really enjoyed. OR PERHAPS THAT'S A LIE! Who's to say? Her, I guess. I'll be honest; my heart really isn't in writing this episode description at... 11:33pm. HOWEVER that makes it thematically appropriate because Bill Maher put in zero effort here, and ends up generating no conversation of substance over three different pairs of kids. I guess during the second one he briefly turns into Lou Dobbs, but other than that it's all "How old are you?" "What grade are you in?" "What do you want to be when you grow up?" and perhaps also... "For Hamas"!!!!!!!! This episode is genuinely almost entirely making fun of an old guy who thinks he's being really funny. If you've ever found yourself thinking "I like that podcast but I get upset hearing so much vile shit come out of that man's mouth" and you can stomach two incidents of transphobia, this is the one for you, baby.

I also think I mention Australia too much for the first half of the episode. I don't know why I did that, I think I was kind of nervous to record with someone I didn't know while I'm so physically exhausted (babies HATE to teeth). I probably didn't need to include this in the episode description. Also I was practically eating my mic so the sound is kind of distorted for me liking. I don't know, man, I'm really just ready to go to bed.

i don’t remember his fucking name but there was a morning talk show host who got fired recently (here in australia) because he did a podcast interview with tommy robinson

Alex W

You don’t bring up Australia that much

Justin King

This episode almost made me physically ill. Bill was horrific.

Katie CG

There's a moment in this ep where Lucy Valentine observes that BM is "just rizzless" and I want to nominate this as a new stinger on the show à la Homaherphobia, to mark the most awkward, painful exchange of the episode. "Maher-kward"? Workshop it.

Doll House

the podcast that just keeps on giving!!!

Mirkatte

I wonder how much psychic damage those children experienced from their encounter with the creepy 68-year-old man. He should not be allowed to speak to children again, ever.

Specks

Lucy is a great guest!

Chuck Grape

This makes me feel better about being high and drunk around children. I don't do any of this shit to them. We just watch Bluey. Everybody has a good time.

Fraans

Best guest! Love her on Boonta

Verbose Minimalist

Look: ACAB includes CPS, but someone needs to lock up the parents who put their children on the podcast that regularly traumatizes full-grown adults.

Betti Tristan

Weird that he didn’t berate the child of Bulgarian descent about her trip to Bulgaria and all around Europe.

Kelli Rule

Ok this podcast is turning me, I don't know, Victorian or something, I don't know how a law could be made that makes it illegal for someone over a certain age to talk to kids like that but we have to do something

Kelli Rule

I mean this is how Jimmy Saville talked to kids

Cclear: watch He Walked by Night (1948)

CPS are cops? How do you take children out of abusive situations then? I don't really understand the concept of CPS being part of police and that they should be defunded or abolished which is what your comment seemed to imply

Doll House

STWWONG wimin - stwwong wimin shows???

Doll House

@justin very very well said

Doll House

i was waiting for one of their parents to interrupt and call him out but no - like whaaat????

This is legitimately fucking sick. He spends his entire life inventing grievances and pokes and prods hoping to incite a reaction from someone—anyone, as long as there’s no real fight or debate to be had. But the problem is that he’s sealed himself off from each and every person that would meaningfully ever push back at him. So he lives entirely in his own head: his own grievances, his own reality. And so when he creates this ecosystem of literal children that he can lord over and “one-up”, he still fucking fails at it because they have NO FUCKING IDEA WHAT HE’S TALKING ABOUT. So he’s met with silence—and as he does with his unpaid audience when met with silence—he responds with hostility. To children! This is WRETCHED.

William

This one was hard to listen to. My brain kept screaming, "GET HIM AWAY FROM THOSE KIDS!"

mrg

WWII started in the 1930s. he's such a moron. (the kids are fine)

mrg

thanks for introducing me to more aussie funny. you should ask Lucy about letters for phone numbers.

Ella Dawson

omg BOONTA VISTA LUCY!!!!

Ella Dawson

Holy shit someone do a wellness check on this first little girl who he is being SO MEAN to

Enuu

Woah, the sped-up Maher News song is a bop!

I dunno if there's an Australian Bill Maher, or Jon Stewart, I'd only heard of either in the late 90s because we got broadband internet and I was looking for George Carlin specials. We got Johnny Carson, so there'd be Australians that know Carnac the Magnificant. Then we got Letterman's Late Show, we never got Leno, only on cable and funnily it played after Conan and only from like 2009. I think you'd have to be a pretty hard comedy nerd Australian to have heard of Bill Maher and he's been a hilarious case to contextualise from afar since the 90s. "We're not very politically correct" was literally what right wingers were saying in Australia to get away with substituting racist misogynistic bullying for a sense of humour. You'd have to be a hard enough comedy nerd Australian to be following this podcast so - who's the Australian Bill Maher? There's an intersting Australian Comedy 101 in trying to answer that I think, but I'm struggling to, too many paragraphs.

I'm so glad there's a podcast called I Hate Bill Maher 🖤 🤮🤢🤮. He's gotta be one of the top 5 most cringeworthy people in the world 🥲.

Justin Van Wormer

He is himself essentially a child emotionally and intellectually and so he thinks of the kids as competition for positive attention. That’s why he can’t joke with them, only at them. He thinks his asides and put downs of children who are trying to be polite and helpful will be funny to other adults because he cant actually imagine the thought process of a healthy adult. If you really follow this all the way, you can get to why he kept making sexualizing jokes about little kids’ gender and why he got really drunk doing it. He is so filled with anxieties about who or what he is now that he has a hard time maintaining his self-conception as a young and virile playboy.

DR4CULVR

i’m still floored he said the word “kink” to the 8yr girl in first pair, when calling them trans as a joke. They should be charging him for the therapy they’ll eventually need

DR4CULVR

no same! He literally jokes about them kids being trans and then likens it to a “kink” but nooooo no parents stepped in to say ‘hey my 8yr girl doesn’t need to hear that word and this interview is done…’

DR4CULVR

vomited in my mouth when he was joking about the first pair of kids being trans, only have my stomach churn when he makes a throw-away joke about it being a “kink” and saying it in front of an 8yr

Kimmerfest

I usually can re- listen to episodes over and over but this one, I don't know if I can. He's so gross.

lara lou

I'm obsessed w/ this podcast. I'm such a hungry little piggy for it, but I just have not been able to click Play on this particular ep. the comments here are confirming I've made the right choice. so thanks y'all. nice to know it's there if I really want to torture myself though.

Kimmerfest

It is rough. The guest and Will are great though

lara lou

hehe I bet. now I'm getting tempted... self-care, or self-dare?

Kimmerfest

It's legit awful and gross how he talks to the kids. But Will and Lucy have the proper reactions to balance it out. WHO thought it was a good idea for him to talk to kids. WHO?

Shawn R

WAY more disturbing than even the Bella Thorne episode.

Gil the Gilded Dragon

Oh he had his brain fried WELL before C19; he was part of the nuatheism/turboislamophobia milleu... & then Ben Afflec called him out on his shit & dude like never recovered

Gil the Gilded Dragon

He is a profoundly strange & upsetting man. I ... the ... do these kids' parents not have estranged uncles that they haze the youths with this
