Man oh man, this guy freakin' sucks at his job!!! Writer/Podcaster/Organizer Jacob Dallas joins me this week to talk about Real Time season 24, episode 22. A limp but tighter than usual monologue is followed by a fake blue collar guy, a disgusting libertarian, and a journalist who Jacob is familiar enough with that he ends up being disappointed with her performance on here. Why's everybody always handling this freakish old pervert with kid gloves? It makes me nuts! Also, there's a classic New Rule bomb so bad he gets pissed at the audience.

he’s bitching about hadestown??????? i’m a decently big hadestown fan and like, hadestown in itself has a lot of themes of capitalism as the setting is fucking miners/train track workers. Hades is explicitly a Capitalist and misogynist??? idk like out of all popular musicals, Hadestown is the first i would think of that you would get kicked off if ur being discriminatory???

I loved how Bill wasn't sure of Harrington's name, but it's absolutely a slur now

Omg, this episode made me feel like it's a small world! I've also organized with the PSL and was a member once upon a time when I was physically healthier. 😅

Yeah Chaudry backed herself into that corner for no reason. Mamdani and Omar are 2 of many outspoken advocates for LGBTQIA+ rights. And also, Hella Muslims. (Queer Muslim here)

Another banger Will, Jacob was a fantastic guest and could see him coming on for more. Keep on hating!!!

All that fake concern that Bill "It's Okay To Be White" Maher showed for the queer community really pissed me off, because right before launching into his usual Islamophobia about Turkey and Egypt (two secular countries, by the way), he literally defended the transphobic comments of two total assholes. It’s insane: you can't pretend to care about the queer community while justifying hostility toward them the moment it’s directed at the people you hate (trans people). Not to mention the blatant racism and Orientalism he displayed toward El-Sayed, with comments like "I hope he's not like other Muslims; you know how *those* people are," implying that El-Sayed (born and raised in Michigan) isn't American. And then he spouts hypocritical nonsense like, "You have to embrace liberalism and American values by supporting the queer cause" (coming from the same guy who started in comedy during the AIDS crisis, when Reagan administration officials literally laughed at gay men dying of AIDS), all while refusing to acknowledge trans people as human beings worthy of rights and respect... Make up your fucking mind, you asshole! Are you in favor of queer rights or not? Aside from supporting marriage equality back in the 2000s, what the fuck has Bill Maher actually done for the queer community? Besides, plenty of socially conservative Muslims share Bill's views on trans people; so, following your own logic, Bill, does that mean *you* don't believe in the liberalism and American values you claim to defend, you asshole? And what is it about JD Vance and the Republican Party that suggests they’d be good for gay people, to the point where you’d consider voting for them in 2028?! God, I hate this cretin! That’s not even counting all that bullshit about how "the Left wants to cancel Thanksgiving!", because that just confirms to me that Bill Maher has turned into a caricature of a gullible white boomer addicted to culture wars; it’s exactly the kind of War on Christmas bullshit that you would see on Fox News.

As a trans guy + long time Hadestown fanboy, this one was harder to liste to than usual 😮‍💨

William

The homophobia, transphobia, Islamophobia, racism, elitism, Orientalism, McCarthyism (all of which are present in this episode, by the way)—these are things that can infuriate or offend me, but his talking about Hadestown offended me as a Broadway fan.

My son went to the fair with my parents 4 years ago He won 4 goldfish. They are still here. God damn it.

I guess I can't say for sure how LGBTQ-friendly it is overall, but one of the big attractions at the Minnesota state fair is a seed art competition that frequently gets a bunch of liberal/progressive political entries. So maybe there's one? (Also, I'm not sure there *is* a gay way to eat a corndog. Can't put my finger on why, but corndogs seem like the most heterosexual food on the planet.)

Eli

that is honestly fucking epic and good fish care!!!

I listened to the same QAA and could have sworn to god they said DDLG meant Daddy's Dumb Little Girl so that has been in my head as a thing and I am very grateful to this podcast for the clarification
