Been too long since we’ve seen our favorite stoner seal, Cass (short for Casserole). If you wanna know what Cass’ voice sounds like, just picture Chicken Joe from Surf’s Up. Or this guy. Cass is Katie’s best friend, and the kinda pal who won’t hesitate to dispute a botched kahuna tuna burger that Katie insists is fine, really. Despite being an athlete themselves (skateboarding, if you can believe it), Cass treats their body like a garbage disposal and eats all manner of distressing teenage-mutant-ninja-turtle-esqe junk food combo concoctions. Don’t knock her Hawaiian-style seafood pizza, bro, it’s got tons of protein!

(As a reminder, Cass is non-binary and goes by they/them and she/her).

I do like that the Fletchers all seem to have a chill vibe to them, well at least surface level anyway, they just seem nice to be around This has also made me realise my eating habits might be like Cass’ cause I took one look at that pizza and thought it looked really good XD

The Karen meme makes me uncomfortable because while it does accurately describe a phenomenon of (often white) women being abusive to service workers and minorities, it still feels kinda sexist. :/ Idk, just notable that there is no male name equivalent that ever caught on, despite plenty of recorded instances of men similarly acting entitled and angry and throwing drinks at fast food employees

They are indeed a pack of very nice canines (plus Cass), at least on the surface. Sunny, Jude, AND Buddy would happily crush that slimy smelly seafood pizza, while Biscuit looks on with mild exasperation

Oh no worries, dude! You can delete it if you want, but there's no pressure. I guess I'm just sensitive about it because I've been doing character art for a long time, and I've noticed a distinct difference in how my female (or nonbinary, in Cass' case) characters are received vs how the males are. People can be super quick to the trigger to write off a messy female character as a bitch or a "karen" or a mary-sue or whatever, yet the male characters get endless forgiveness and interest and fanfics. It feels really reductive. I see it in fandom, I see it in my work, I see it mirrored in the real world. And for a long time I was nervous to write anything but super-sanitized female characters who never do anything objectionable, which made them boring af. Cass is being a little snotty here, but it doesn't make them a Karen, it just makes them a butthole, the same if it was Bruce or Bob being grumpy about a messed-up food order. Also, I am not at all trying to shame you or make you feel bad. I should've struck a friendlier tone in my first comment, my bad. :( EDIT: Patreon won't let me write another response but I wanted to say I really appreciate your response dude and I was definitely too quick to get up on a soapbox here. We're cool~

I’m so sorry about that, I totally understand where you’re coming from I have similar issues with writing mine. I really hope it wasn’t coming across as thinking of Cass as “womanly” I really didn’t mean it like that. And I really hope I don’t come off as someone that applies to setting those characters into boxes in that way, I am really sorry I won’t refer that way from now on

I do gotta ask - I had forgotten Cass's full name is fucking Casserole, and I'm honestly pretty curious like...was that the name her birth mother gave her? Was it what Biscuit and Buddy named her? Like - What even - "Here are our three lovely children, Mason, Judith, and Casserole." Did Cass choose it for themselves? What??? Also: I would eat the terrifying seafood pizza. Looks almost like okonomiyaki if you squint hard enough, and I'll horf that down any time of the day. ....ALSO ALSO: It just hit me that Cass and Katie are big ol anime nerds, which probably means they know Taddeo through Zooniversity Anime Club. 1) Is there evidence of group cosplay (alternatively: Cass being a cosplay handler while Taddeo and Katie do something bonkers. I like the idea of a Gundam + pilot) and 2) are they aware of Dom and 3) does that impact Katie's feelings about certain dolphins and 4) do all the above play D&D together and/or have preferences in anime? We know Taddeo loves the magical girl genre, which makes me think Cass probably has either immaculate taste and/or binges the latest Shonen series. Katie really is just out there doing the Naruto run and is cursed with that knowledge. I feel like Katie would have a preference for slice of life stuff, Brooke would be ~intellectual but tbh just gets super involved with Death Note-style dramas, and Dom...I think maybe Dom, in public, Does Not Watch Anime...well...maybe he *does* watch the ~cool stuff...he's actually most often found debating the latest plot twist of the magical girl anime he's watching with Taddeo.

Would it put u off if I told u that Cass definitely yoinked that pizza slice straight outta her grubby hoodie pocket (no way to know how long it’s been in there) Cass being short for Casserole is just a joke Cass tells. They were born with a pretty girly name given to them by their birth mom. Cass never liked her birth name, nor the nickname “Cassie”, and insisted on being known by Cass. Buddy jokes one day its short for Casserole, which Cass of course loves, and considers having their name legally changed to it(spooking poor Biscuit), but ultimately decides to change her legal name to Casper (Cass) Fletcher.

Did Cass take testosterone to achieve a deeper voice? Or does she just sound like that? Honestly their voice claim being Chicken Joe makes me so happy, Surf's Up is such an underrated movie. It definitely hasn't aged PERFECTLY (the indigenous penguins of the island come to mind) but I still think the story is genuinely heartwarming and poignant even all these years later

Surf's Up is a pretty good animated flick, I rewatched it a while back and it's still pretty fun! Definitely wondered what tf was up with the gibberish-speaking cannibal native penguins, though. So many kids shows/movies just can't help slipping in a dash of completely unexamined racism, even in a story about surfing birds

Oh and also to answer your question, it's really up to you to decide. I like both options! Could be Cass just has a naturally deep, husky stoner drawl, could be she does hormone therapy which has deepened her voice. Either or is fine by me

The way she’s holding the pizza reminds me of how Toon Link holds up items in Wind Waker and Phantom Hourglass. It’s also the outfit too lol It’s nice to see Cass again and her friendship with Katie. :) She seems like the outcast of her family, so I’m glad she found her people.

Cass wears a binder when they wear tight clothes (like their cooling vest in the burger pic), and a sports bra when they wear loose clothes.
