yet more concept art, this time featuring Topher’s secret tattoo. It’s a tribute to Mal, his best and longest friend (and quite perplexingly to Topher- and maybe a bit frighteningly- , the only person to have yet to get tired of his vexing ass). Totally normal and casual to depict your best friend as a literal goddess holding (guarding? about to destroy? Or being trusted not to destroy?) your heart. Though if you ask Topher yourself, he’ll say it’s just a generic sick ass panther tatt that could mean anything or be about anybody, hmph.

stealth edit: fixed Mal’s hair :3

Angsty Ram

Okay but that is the sickest tattoo design ever

Rumpeltyltskyn

I didn’t even look at the second picture and my mind immediately went to “something for Mal to look at while pulling his hair”

Morghann Patterson

Also…. Don’t think I don’t see that Honey-esque scream pose. I see it.

Queenie

I like the idea that (metaphorically) Topher gave Mal his heart, which is fragile being a gem, knowing that she will protect it. It being in her mouth, she could easily bite down and shatter it, but she doesn't. And he knows that she never would. IDK IF THAT WAS AT ALL YOUR THOUGJT PROCESS BUT-

JoMama1516

I love the second sketch with Topher getting blustered. What was Mal's immidiate reaction? Surprise? Or was this something that compounded her feeings even more?

lopoddity

Don’t think Toffee and Merry don’t also do that pose. That stupid ass yipping flustered ear poof is a Meadowsweet family tradition

mirarevias

I need another word for tsundere but the tsundere energy this gives on Topher's behalf is sickening (I love it). He's definitely convincing Mal, for SURE Something something de Nile is a river in Egypt something I love that we get to see the ways in which Honey and Topher let slip that they're related by scrambling and fluffing up when they're flustered in the exact same way 😂

Morghann Patterson

Good, excellent. Please tell me that Topher incorporates his stupid gun dog bay into his songs.

lopoddity

Probably something between “wtf dumbass who DOES this” and “hsshdshdafsgs I have found the man who’s going to father my children”. She was VERY flustered! And mad! But also touched??

TheHaywaiianHorse

Oh man if only you did commission work again 😫 tat is siiiiiiiick!!

MEllegoo

I see you lurk in the r/shittytattoos subreddit 😂

Tibbles Yorkie789

It never occurred to be that his hair is cut in the back I always thought he just had long hair with his ears 😭

Tibbles Yorkie789

And oh my god the highlights on the jewel are to die for

gamigami

question: does his fur grow over the tattoo and he has to keep shaving that spot, or is topher more skin than fur in general? or is a tattoo for a furred creature more like dying the fur in the area? 🤔you may have explained animal tattoos before and i just straight up forgot LOL but im curious

MiyaLaFlorDorada

Ok sure, I laughed a lot with his tsudere-like expressions, but can we talk how beautiful and intimate that gesture is? I have a problem with my skin (I don't know the name in english but scars don't heal well in zones with not too much fat and they look a little bumpy?) and I'm terrified of needles, so tattoos are a big no-no for me and yet since I was little, I always loved tattoos, they are such personal way of self-expression and decorations of oneself. The fact of having a symbol of someone you love in your skin is so poetic, a pure demonstration of love, and dare I say so romantic in some cases. Also the concept of this tattoo of dear Mal is so touching, I swear I almost cry, can you imagine spending your whole life feeling like you aren't a person, you are seen as this dangerous beast, worthy of nothing and just living to serve, and then this dude, this dumb punk dog make this ode to what you mean for him? Because he adores you? He likes you for you, you laugh together and enjoy just existing in the same space, you are his favorite person and who he choose to have forever in his skin🥲💓 And in his case, she's someone that makes him feel so safe, alive, and beloved, like I'm sure behind his tough exterior and mister "I don't give a shit" persona, he's very soft, with a fragile heart, that don't trust in many things, and can you blame him after everything he saw growing up? And yet he found someone that he can be vulnerable and soft. Many can't say that, to have someone that make them feel this way, someone that you can trust your heart. As an aroace I'm so happy that you can show such deep reactionship between two being that love each other but aren't in love, so beautiful~🥰 Even so I must say even if he was drunk, I think Topher should feel proud because it's a gorgeous tattoo, but also is soooo lucky that the one that make the tattoo did such amazing job, and that he didn't just choose some random shit to have in his skin, I have heard some really mess up/horror stories about tattoo while drunk/high 😅

FancylionFarts

I love it and also it is a sick tattoo 😍

lopoddity

He does have long hair (that blends with his ears), he's just got a shaved head for the purposes of showing off the tatt here

lopoddity

I've done a lot of thinking on this, and I've decided that most tattoo shops simply double as electrology centers. The tattoo client has their desired area shaved, then, should they desire it, the area is treated with a high-intensity laser wand to burn hair follicles and prevent the shaved fur from growing back. The artist then tattoos the desired design. Alternatively, clients may opt to forgo having a permanent bald patch and simply routinely shave the area, or apply anti-fur growth salves. Topher has several shitty stick n' poke tatts he's let be covered up by fur regrowth. The fur follicles on his nape though were laser-treated, so his tribute tatt doesn't need any shaving or creams to maintain it. That fur won't grow back.

AsTheJayFlies

I think the type of scars youre describing are called keloid scars Also i 100% agree abt how beautiful and intimate the gesture is,,,

lopoddity

Thanks! Topher has like...middle schooler level drawing ability, so it was Angel who took Toph's smudged scribbly concept sketch and transformed it into a real tattoo piece (aided in no small amount by being subjected to Topher's drunken ramblings about how amazing his bestie is)

FROSTBURNE

sick tattoo! that crystal heart kinda reminds me of something... hmmm...

lopoddity

Ha, originally I made it bright blue and the my little pony alarm in my head immediately went off

Corinne Stephenson

Angel thinking to himself while tattooing drunk Topher: "I really need to get a better reputation for my shop so I get less drunks -_-"

lopoddity

Topher, sloppy drunk: taTtOo iT oN mY cHeSt Angel: Hmm, how about somewhere a bit more discreet friend

MiyaLaFlorDorada

Oh thank you! So that's the word. And right?! I just love seeing tattoos about love ones that aren't a regret, cuz uff those are... difficult. I have this relative was these type of people that fall in love way too fast, way too hard and didn't respect his own boundaries God I didn't think he even have them in the first place when his girlfriends, soooo even with all this let's say his not so pleasant aptitude at the time with me or my parents, I remember when he show me this pretty little tatto that I thought it was tiny snakes and flowers but it was the name of her girlfriend of 5 years in another language with symbols... I was worried cuz I notice that even after all those years that was something unhealthy about their relationship in the last years, and turn out I was right, JESUS what a mess that break out was 😬. Thank heavens he could hide the tattoo with another but still, sorry for over share, it just so nice to see good types of relationship wherever the type, cuz I don't have many references in my life 😅
