….I said “Oh my”.

Sometime in the late 80s, Lulu meets a perpetually down-on-his-luck boar by the name of Jean-Luc, quietly and politely languishing from malnutrition in the alley behind the diner where she works. In the first of what will be many well-meaning yet impulsive decisions, she invites him inside for a cup of coffee, a plate of hash browns, and some friendly conversation…

ooohhh!! man thats such an interesting backstory for them! for jean luc, did it seem sorta like lulu burst out of the fog and into his life? what was their breakup like?

nighthawk0913

I remember seeing on Tibbs' family tree (I think?) that Jean-Luc isn't really involved in his son's life, but was there ever a time where he tried to be?

Sorceringing

since addiction can be genetic did tibbs ever struggle with addition tendancies? 🥺

Alight

This is so utterly cute. I know the situation is doomed, but oooh, poor thing,

Must Love Frogs

Well, this should all be fine as long as she doesn't sleep with him--oh. Oh no.

Can’t see red flags if you wear rose tinted glasses 👓 🥀

Bigsmile

Noooo! Lulu, you aren't equipped to help him!

lopoddity

Yup! There he was, trying to scrounge up some decent dumpster cardboard to write a begging sign on, when a random pretty sow popped into his alley to fuss over him and feed him hot meals. Jean-Luc was quite taken with Lulu pretty much from their first interaction~ To answer your question, they never actually broke up! Lulu sneaks food to Jean-Luc from the diner everyday, before ultimately deciding to take him in, just for a few weeks, just to help him get back on his feet. And it goes well at first, Lulu loves having someone to dote on, and Jean enjoys being cleaned-up and groomed and dressed in fresh ironed clothes. Even when their relationship veers into ahhhh inappropriate territory (with Jean-Luc insisting on "thanking" Lulu for her kindness, and Lulu resisting at first but ultimately succumbing to his gentle charm), it's still going well. Jean-Luc is close to getting a proper job, and their relationship begins to shift from a sexual friendship to something resembling love...and this is when Jean-Luc starts to panic. He's a classic self-saboteur, and the prospect of being seen and known and loved by Lulu slowly becomes unbearable. He secretly falls back into old habits, drinking, gambling-stealing from Lulu’s wallet and hating himself for it, because he KNOWS she'd lend him money if he asks, because she's made the foolish mistake of TRUSTING him. When Lulu announces that her period is late, Jean-Luc vanishes without a good-bye, convinced that Lulu and the baby will be better off without his miserable influence. So yeah, they never actually broke up, Jean just ditched Lulu when she became pregnant. In their later lives, Lulu forgives Jean out of guilt for having slept with a vulnerable person she was supposed to be caring for, and Jean of course feels guilting for abandoning Lulu and their child. They forgive each other and are still pretty soft for each other, something that pisses Tibbs right off (and Mona too).

lopoddity

Throughout Tibbs' childhood Jean was too deep in his addictions (drinking and gambling) and guilt to connect with the piglet he abandoned, and instead watched Tibbs and Lulu from afar. He makes the mistake of reaching out when Tibbs is in his late teens and entering his first rut- Jean does this as a favor for Lulu, who is anxious about her son's increasingly hostile and criminal behavior. Jean thinks he may be able to provide a kind older male influence to Tibbs as he struggles with his rut hormones- and nearly gets gored for his efforts. Tibbs is NOT interested in this man claiming to be his father, and furthermore wants no life advice from a homeless drunk. Jean tries again and again to connect as Tibbs enters adulthood, but his attenpts are always rebuffed, and it doesn't help that Jean-Luc may or may not sometimes blend his paternal efforts with requests for money from Tibbs, or addled drunken rants, or general manipulation and lies and delusions one might expect from a lifelong addict. Tibbs HATES the guy and wishes he'd fuck off for good. But Jean-Luc's greatest wish (when he's sober, at least), is to have a relationship with his son, so he can't give up entirely.

lopoddity

Oh yes. Tibbs and Jean are remarkably alike for two people that didn't even share a conversation until Tibbs was nearly grown. Tibbs had Jean's same scrawny build growing up, the same shyness and general awkwardness around other people, the same preference for quiet and being left alone. In his late teens he develops Jean's impulsivity and proclivity for reckless behaviors, as he himself falls into an ill-advised relationship with an older sow (Joan) and begins engaging in drinking, drugs, and escalating crime. It's pure dumb luck that Tibbs didn't end up like his father. While Tibbs does end up going to prison, his charge is light and his sentence is only a few years- he narrowlyyyy escapes being charged for all the heavier crimes he'd been dabbling in- drug trafficking, armed robbery, running a chop shop with Joan, to name a few. He could've easily spent the rest of his life behind bars, could've easily accidentally gotten his girlfriend pregnant, could've easily fathered a piglet that he would've been forced to abandon- could've easily followed in his father's footsteps. It's only luck and having a decent support system that saves Tibbs, though he pretends he would have NEVER fucked up his life the way his father did. Tibbs stubbornly clings to the belief that he has made better choices than his father, and that they are nothing alike. As an adult Tibbs is very careful with his drinking and finances and is generally extremely risk-averse, as his greatest fear is becoming like his dad and destroying the family that he and Perry worked so hard to build.

Pigs value strong bodies, the beefier and curvier the better! So by pig standards, Jean-Luc is actually considered fairly unattractive and skrunkly, lol. Good thing Lulu has low standards! 😃 (Read: She is very starved for love)

ummhallelujah

Ah yes, my favorite type of man.... Sad and pathetic. How do wild pigs and domestic pigs feel about each other? Do they get along/share similar values?

lopoddity

PIG IS PIG. That's the general cultural attitude for swine. Pigs are extremely social and kin-focused, often belonging to massive herds consisting of both biological and honorary family members, sometimes even adopting non-pigs into the flock. Domestic and wild pigs are 2 sides of the same coin and make up some of the most common mixed-species couples. Domestic pigs are generally typecast as "lazier" than their wildtype brethren, preferring indolence and comfort and fatty foods, while wild pigs are generally more active, with a great love of nature and hunting/gathering their own meals. Despite these cultural differences, they get along swimmingly. A fun fact is that any domesticated pig is capable of becoming "feral" and resembling their wildtype counterparts. Switching to a more active lifestyle, encountering increased stress, or receiving poor nutrition can trigger a domestic pig to begin producing more testosterone, causing them to grow in scruffy brown fur, lose fat tissue, and gain muscle mass.

So. Do you have any like. Concrete idea as to how Jean's gonna end up? Of course I feel for the guy and would be Happy to see him get some semblance of a happy ending where he finally overcomes his addictions and maybe even is able to form Some sort of a relationship with Tibbs, even if it's a shallow/awkward one. But I also know that sometimes there are people who just. Don't get better no matter how much they or the people around them want them to. Which is sad, but also, unfortunately, realistic. I'll happily tune in either way

lopoddity

I believe in Jean-Luc! He's not Merry, he's not resistant to change or in denial of his flaws. Jean wants to be the man his family deserves, it's just hard for him to keep his snout clean when he lives without housing in total poverty with pretty much nothing to look forward to other than his next drink or scratch-off ticket. Jean needs therapy, extensive rehab, and a support network. I think, provided the resources, Jean would be willing to do the work, particularly now that his son is raising children of his own and Jean is gradually being reminded of his own mortality. At the very least, he and Lulu do become friends again and forgive each other.

Lammergayier

I believe in him too!!!!! 🥹😤

Lourenzo Dasilva

So you've talked about Lulu's parental fuckups in the past. How did she and Tibbs reconcile?

lopoddity

They kinda don't, or at least they don't really ever talk it out. Lulu still has a blind spot about a mile wide when it comes to her son's faults and can be somewhat suffocating in her love for him. As a teen Tibbs resented not being seen for who he truly was and acted out both due to self-esteem problems and to punish his mother for believing in him so naively. In his late teens, Tibbs, well...look, it was lonely in prison, and Tibbs came to realize he was hardly the tough adult boar he'd been trying so badly to be. He discovered he was very much still a lost, frightened child that badly missed his mama. Ultimately, he realizes that Lulu’s unflinching love and support, even if a bit stifling, is a very rare thing to come by. He feels very guilty for how terribly he treated her in his youth, -Mona and Jamie too- and resolves to do better by all of them. Nowadays Tibbs just tries to live up to the perfect picture Lulu imagines him to be, and he loves her dearly. He's protective of her, which feeds his hostility towards Jean-Luc.

ErrorVittra

Now that Lulu's got a wife, does she hear from Jean-Luc anymore? :o I'd love to know what Mona thinks of him👀

lopoddity

Yep, in present day Fuzzbutts Lulu is in contact with Jean-Luc. She feels it's important, as no matter their level of guilt around one another they DO have a child together, therefore they should be in contact. She bought a phone for Jean and lets him know he's welcome at her restaurant anytime he needs a hot free meal, all of which Jean is grateful for. Mona....doesn't like Jean-Luc at all. Though she tries to remain civil to him to keep the peace, she resents that, in her opinion, the man used Lulu for housing and sex, then ditched her the moment Lulu got pregnant and things got too real. Shameful!! He hurt Lulu before, and Mona has watched Lulu learn the hard way not to loan Jean money directly, or speak with him when he's not sober. While Jean is quiet and polite when sober, he's a sloppy, miserable drunk that begs and lies and calls in the middle of the night for money for "food" for "clothes for a job interview" for "the doctor"- money that he always pisses away gambling, then cries for more. Jean is...a nice enough man, but he cannot be trusted, and Mona is ALWAYS on guard around him, refusing to let him exploit her wife's sweet, trusting nature any more. Furthermore, Mona is....maybe a bit jealous of Lulu's connection with Jean-Luc. It's pretty obvious that there's still something between them, a softness. It's there in the way Jean calls her "Lu", the way Lulu touches his arm and smiles and never flinches at his ratty smelly clothes. Their inside jokes and shared language (cajun french), the way they discuss the son they created. Mona isn't exactly threatened by Jean-Luc, but she is jealous. At the same time, she can't begrudge Lulu for wanting her child's father in the picture, for befriending him so that he can know more about Tibbs. Still. She always gives a strained smile to Jean, brews his tea perhaps a little too hot, then goes off to join Tibbs for a validating round of shared sulking and griping.

Mastodon

Omg, his stripes 😭 they're both so young here! I love getting more Lulu lore, she's such an interesting mix of positives and negatives. I love her positive attitude and big heart... but it'd be nice if she was less of an enabler. Is that a learned behavior, or has Lulu always been a huge people-pleaser?

lopoddity

It's learned. Lulu grew up in a massive family (she's one of 13 littermates) with a fairly irresponsible young mother and a fairly absent philandering father. Lulu’s mother was man-crazy, often leaving her piglets to fend for themselves while she chased her boytoy of the week, while Lulu’s father was a trucker that fathered kids in pretty much every neighboring county. Rather than resent her parents, Lulu was so desperate for their attention that she simply made excuses for them. At least with her father, this tactic worked. As his most devoted and uncritical child, Lulu was her papa's "favorite", and he eventually retired near her and helped her raise Tibbs. This validated Lulu’s belief that unconditional love can change people (she pointedly ignores that her father never did give up his many vices for her, and they eventually killed him), and she's committed to keep loving people no matter what.

ErrorVittra

Love this!! Thank you for answering! :3

WAr

Sorry I’m commenting kinda late haha been vacationing. Does Jean-Luc have much family at all? Does Tibbs know any family members on Jean-Lucs side?

lopoddity

The less known about Jean-Luc's backstory, the better. He grew up in foster care and his caretakers weren't very kind, or even all that safe to be around. There's a reason he developed compulsive addictions that help him escape reality. :/

AsTheJayFlies

transmasc domestic pig spontaneously transitioning to feraltype just bc he starts working out regularly jfhshf

Alight

I did not know that, huh. Fascinating.
