jam calling pinkie 'kid' so casually is just such a Thing i both love it and feel bad for pinks woops

Onefoursix Tym

And after that, Jammy always gave *the best* hearth's warming gifts.

Poor Pinkie, being a parent sounds tough man... Gives me sad vibes like when Cupcake joined the royal guard

ramble time: at first glance I thought the stallion was filthy rich (no idea why), but that got me thinking... DID Jam ever study under Filthy? He was a pretty successful businessman, even if only in Ponyville, and Jam had to start somewhere. If she did study under him, I have this hilarious mental image of both Spoiled and Filthy having the 'students' over for dinner every once in a while when their lessons ran long - cue a slightly older magnolia nearing the end of her stint under spoiled rich sitting across the table from a slightly younger jam sandwich just beginning her tenure as filthy rich's student, both wondering why the other's there. they know each other through their mothers, of course, but... well, none of the mane six are too friendly with the rich's (maybe with the exception of diamond tiara), so why is the other filly there? huh. interesting. (meanwhile, diamond is caught between feeling sorry for the fillies and trying to ignore the feeling of being replaced.)

second, ridiculous thought i can't believe entered my mind but that i'm gonna put here in case anyone else might enjoy: DOUG DIMMADOME? OWNER OF THE DIMMSDALE DIMMADOME?? IS THAT YOU???

SmilesPerHour

Not okay, Jammy. Children should always make time for their family. I mean, unless the family in question is abusive or mean, but in any other case, family time is vital.

Onefoursix Tym

But you see, she is making time for family. The family.

cactus bastrop

aw, poor ponk :( i can imagine how rough it is having her eldest leave home for something so dangerous (both royal guard and the following pandora shenanigans) and then to have jammy be so brusque in her adulthood. it's not that jam doesn't want to be AROUND her family, per se, she just has.... other, more important things to do, right, yeah. wonder if she will ever come around on this, but i get it--sometimes you don't realize how much you miss your family til you need em

Neat idea. :) I'm thinking though that Jam probably hates Filthy Rich. The dude touts himself as some self-made millionaire, but in actuality, he inherited both a sizable fortune AND Barnyard Bargains from his father. She can't stand his hokey, good ol' country boy act, she KNOWS he's ruthless behind the scenes, and that he's your typical robber baron capitalist. He underpays his workers to mass produce cheap goods, all so he and his stupid chain of stores can pop up and choke out local small businesses. Pinkie Pie and Cheese took a small loan from the Cakes to set up their own party supply/joke shop, and they nearly went under several times because Filthy kept undercutting their prices. He says there's nothing wrong with a little friendly competition, Jam disagrees. She called on Gladmane, and together they strong-armed Rich into staying OUT of Pie territory. Gladmane may be of similar fake-nice cloth as Filthy, but he's more transparent in a lot of ways, and Jam appreciates that. Gladmane, comparatively, is pretty fond of his apprentice, and considers her something like a daughter...........*cue Gladmane's actual daughter screaming in the background

Oh this is hands-down so much better. It makes me wonder - does Jam's distaste for characters like Filthy Rich have any impact on how she wants to get rich/spend her money? Is she kind of Robin Hood, justice-oriented at all? Or does she just insist on having standards as she works to get stinkin' loaded?

lopoddity

She has standards, definitely. She only targets suckers that can handle being parted from a few dollars, and in her mind that makes her better than Filthy, who's hokey business model destroys the socioeconomic potential of his fellow townsponies, and Gladmane, who lures regular folk into his casinos to bleed dry. Of course Jam is kind of a hypocrite, good, ordinary people do get caught in her scams sometimes, though she doesn't intend for it

Colbyr

Would she ever actually do a Robin Hood-type gig every once in a while for shits and giggles? I'm not sure how in-character that would be for her, but I love the idea of Arte realizing that this cur isn't actually quite as badass as she might like to seem, maybe with a hot spot... not that that should make any difference, of course - she's still breaking the law, and Arte still has a duty to bring her down, but... hm. This shouldn't change things. But it almost does.
