"Look at you, cara mia.....I would die for you. I would kill for you. Either way, what bliss."

finito!

I imagine these two would have a wonderful nightmare night, hamming it up for the little kiddos trick-or-treating at Sugarcube Corner. And they're just wouldn't be doing a decent Gomez and Morticia Addams if they didn't waltz. Romantically, theatrically....perhaps with some throwing knives and fire involved, just for a bit of extra fun~

Midnight isn't normally so big on public displays of affection, but tonight she's playing a character. And Morticia Addams deserves to be played accurately and respectfully. It's uh....just pure coincidence this provides her with a handy excuse to shamelessly soak up alla dem Gomez-PB kisses. She's definitely not enjoying this! It's all just part of her character, and she'll hex anyone who says otherwise! >:I

Hello there, fellow ace myself :) With respect back there are many aces who are sex positive and very comfortable with physical affection, and enjoy it. It simply depends on the individual and the couple themselves. I'm sure Pb and Midnight had a talk when they started dating about what they were comfortable with and not, and respect each other's boundaries One thing I personally love about this couple is....well everything. They are BOTH on the ace specrum but their level of "ace-ness" isn't the focus of their relationship. They are two people that care very much about each other and want to be in a relationship. What they're happy doing with each other is their business

You're not being disrespectful at all. :) Your criticism is well-articulated, I read your second comment as well. Yes, Midnight is my only "asexual" labelled ace character, and I imagine that puts her, and how I write her, under far greater scrutiny than if I had multiple aces hanging around. I am sorry to learn that you don't feel like she's ace. I have met sex-favorable aces that do enjoy intimate physical affection (though perhaps under very specific circumstances only), and that's what I was going for with Midnight. Still, I understand how again, with her being the ONLY ace, this can come off as invalidating. I am sorry. Tbh, I may modify Midnight's asexuality into demisexuality. Yours is not the first time I was criticized for having the only ace character be an introverted crabby goth. In fact, when I announced PB as demi, I was again criticized for playing into a different stereotype, the "childish" adult character too innocent for sex. Perhaps "ace" is too rigid* of a label for either character, perhaps issuing them both a more flexible label will help abate stereotypes. I imagine a different solution could be to just make more characters ace, but my cast/stories are pretty admittedly shipping/sex/romance crazed. I feel like retconning a previously allosexual character into now being ace would feel pretty insincere, on my end. *I mean rigid in the most polite way possible, in that asexual has a pretty strict definition of what it is, unlike a lot of other identities, which have more "wiggle room", so to speak.

God this is so pretty. The story is so pretty. The BG is so PRETTY

My apologies. I interpreted "I don't really get ace vibes from them" as "these characters do not feel ace to me". I've thought your words over, and I've concluded that you're correct. As you guessed, I'm allosexual. Stories about queer love, sex, and romance are my bread and butter. Though I have listened to ace friends and asexual advocates, I'm doubtful if I've ever truly, TRULY placed myself in their shoes. It's kinda like listening to someone discuss their ambivalence (or revulsion) about strawberry cake, which you cannot fathom, because strawberry cake is one of your favorite things.(Not that asexuality-or a distaste of strawberry cake- isn't valid!) And so, I believe I've been slipping into an allosexual mindset by default even when writing characters meant to be ace......this is poor representation, and my audience deserves better. I sincerely apologize. You proposed adding in more ace characters to combat the issue of tokenism/weak rep, but I think I'd just end up running into the same roadblock. I like writing romance. I like writing characters having healthy discussions about, as well as being in relationships that involve, consensual, enthusiastic sex. I mean, you've seen my gallery. Every other post is a silly sex joke. So I think additional ace characters would likely feel inauthentic, or they'd be sex-favorable aces, which could, as you say, undermine the entire point of having an ace character. Is it true representation if they're ace "in name only"? So. I think for the time being, I'm making Midnight demi. PB will stay demi. I'm of the belief that poor representation is often worse than no representation, and I don't want to perpetuate harmful stereotypes. The pandoraverse has not always been full of the most thoughtful ideas, and I feel like I've been struggling to retcon and fix and retool and patch....and I'm getting really tired. I'm afraid I'm going to take the easy solution here- and I'm truly sorry if that is disappointing to you. This said, you've given me a lot to think about! I can admit my ace rep in the pandoraverse has always been paltry. I will do better in future works. At the very least, you've alerted me to the issues that arise from having one (or two) characters made to represent the entirety of a sexual orientation- and that's something I honestly should've considered beforehand, as a queer person. If I have more ace characters in the future (say, in Fuzzbutts), I will not limit them to a teeny minority, and I will be careful to avoid stereotypes.

Anxiety about discussing problematic content? You're telling me! I get it pretty bad myself. XD I put a lot of energy into my art, so learning I've made a big blunder- or worse, that my work is actively harmful- can be downright petrifying. Still, I'm glad you spoke up. :) Please, in the future, if you ever have an issue with my content, just tell me! I often don't know there's a problem until someone points it out. If posting a public comment is too much, then just shoot me a private message here or on deviantart. I will always, ALWAYS read and consider constructive criticism.

Moondancer: So I killed. So I maimed. So I destroyed one innocent life after another. Aren't I a human being? Don't I yearn and ache... and shop? Don't I deserve love... and jewelry? Midnight: *nodding and blinking back tears* Ok but these two are legit adorable, nothing brings me more joy than two dopes who go all-out for Halloween Peebs also growing out his facial hair just to sell the Gomez look is just 👌👌👌

Hi I am also popping in here as a fellow ace to toss around my own experiences, totally don’t feel obliged to reply to me bc I can see the convo is over and I’m def not trying to dredge anything back up I ironically don’t have a ton of ace headcanons or OCs myself, and that’s just mainly because I really like shipping and writing romances without having any desire to engage in it myself irl. I think I just prefer to live vicariously through art and stories. And even then, sex doesn’t really come up much at all in the stuff I make. A lot of my couples who can bear biological children have kids, but I pretty much always either gloss over the sex part or don’t acknowledge it. Sort of a “yeah that’s a thing that happens, but it’s not the focus here” kind of approach It’s very interesting to hear different perspectives from fellow ace people and to hear how our experiences vary! Also, on a somewhat related note, if you’re looking for media with some really good ace rep, I’d strongly recommend a game called Outer Worlds. I don’t want to spoil much, but this game has an ace character with some of the best asexual rep I’ve ever seen. Like I came very close to tearing up because I’d never seen a canonical ace character in a game before, and they were written super respectfully and lovingly. Okey doke that’s all I’ve got for now, have a lovely night!

the pandoraverse canonically ends with Moondancer in Debbie's dress and heels, being electrocuted by an infant until he's just a pile of ash also, a bit of silliness: in the future, PB and Midnight are horrified to discover their gloomy little baby has suddenly, magically become a cute ball of sunshine overnight, just like in Addams Family Values Pandora: If we don't fix this he could stay this way for years! Forever! He could become......a LAWYER. PB: *gasps* I won't listen! Pandora: *dramatically* An ORTHODONTIST. Midnight: *covering her mouth to muffle a sob* Pandora, stop-! Pandora: *darkly*.....PRESIDENT! PB: Please! I beg you! Take me instead! *weeps openly* meanwhile their baby is happily gurgling in his crib

*sticks head in* I love this and while I am a) aware that the demi/ace convo was over like...two days ago and b) that my experience =/= others experience, I wanted to drop my two cents as someone who is (probably???) some form of ace/aro/demi and who is married to someone who is (probably) demi. Our relationship isn't too dissimilar from Midnight/PB's (which is why I love them) and we can absolutely be affectionate (my husband more so than me). Hopefully it's not intrusive, but I'd like to suggest a couple of things? I think Midnight is a little more...tsundere than expected? It feels more like she's outwardly vehemently opposed but secretly enjoying romance rather than just not having an interest. I could absolutely see her fighting her feelings because, say, her moms have been pressuring her all her life and now she has to deal with it, but it doesn't really read that way, at least to me. Otherwise...it might be a lot more obvious with interactions with other characters? Like...for example, I hate touching people. I'll do it for politeness, but I don't see even close friends and go "Yay hugs!!!" But I'm affectionate with my husband so...But anyway, I love the idea of these two dressing up as Addamses and am horrifically tempted to design some appropriately themed kids, haha
