.....Dumb bunny.

Happy New Year, everyone. I wanted to draw something fun and festive, but my 2023 resolution was to draw/post more, so alas, this means that sometimes my real world feelings will bleed into my art. Lately I've been particularly frustrated by my chronic anxiety, which quite enjoys taking the form of intrusive thoughts and perpetual nightmares. Growing up I always knew it wasn't normal to feel on the edge of panic at nearly every moment, so I thought getting an official diagnosis as an adult would offer at least a little relief. But nah, it turns out knowing your brain is wired wrong doesn't really make it much easier to ignore. You know all (?) your fears are unfounded, yet you cannot help feeling afraid, all the time.

Marnie Hutchworth suffers from Generalized Anxiety Disorder. As an adult she's gotten fairly good at hiding it, but oftentimes, just beneath the schoolteacher smile, Marnie is a nervous wreck. Besides causing her excessive worrying (about nearly everything), Marnie's disorder manifests as tense muscles, constant fidgeting, headaches, difficulty sleeping, and anxiety attacks. Rabbits, like many prey animals, have an instinct to "freeze" when frightened (a leftover reflex to hopefully go unnoticed by predators), so on Marnie's very worst days, she can literally be paralyzed by her anxiety, unable to eat or even leave her home. This particular attack is the result of a depressive spiral, in which Marnie feels bad, then feels guilty for feeling bad, then feels ungrateful for daring to feel bad when she has so many people who love her and count on her, then feels terrified that she has somehow tricked her friends and family into tolerating her when in actuality she is unlovable, worthless, and damaged beyond repair. Validate your emotions and know that it's okay to feel emotions good or bad. We're humans, humans are very emotional creatures. Emotions are a beautiful thing too. I suffer from anxiety, stress, and depression. I've learned to validate my emotions and what I'm feeling because even if others say I'm making it up I know for a fact I'm not. Meditation also helps. It helps to get an empty brain and just level out that stress.

okay if this IS your plan for her and Snowball, I need art of them being adorable so badly because I need Snowball comforting her and trying to ground her when shes having an attack ;~; Even if them being together ISNT your plan, I still adore the fuck out of the two of them together and separate and Im so so excited to see more!

Anxiety and depression is a sonuva bitch I totally get that. I can't say I have any worthwhile advice other than there's nothing wrong with slowing down, take deep breathes, and remindinh yourself there's no shame for how you feel! Everyone processes this shit in different ways, working out, sunlight, and meditation are wonderful! And if you take antidepressants or anxiety medication? That's just as valid. Anyway, hope you had a good holiday season and have a good year ahead of you!

I had a small panic attack two days ago, so I understand this perfectly. It’s hard. It’s hard living in constant worry and fear. It’s hard wondering if everyone will leave you behind or get tired of you… but i’m not here to vent. Self care is different for everyone and I hope you feel better soon. Also Marnie could use a big hug from Snowball right now. If not as a romantic partner, at least as a good friend. Also “then feels ungrateful for daring to feel bad when she has so many people who love her and count on her, then feels terrified that she has someone tricked her friends and family into tolerating her when in actuality she is unlovable, worthless, and damaged beyond repair.” Man I felt that..

as someone who has struggled with anxiety all my life I totally get where you're coming from. Putting my feelings into art/writing has always helped for me so I hope it can do the same for you.

I can imagine when she and Snowball finally get together, he'll see her having one of her anxiety attacks and just lays a beefy arm across her to relax her with pressure (my partner puts all of his weight on me and it helps with mine). Realizing that Marnie loves this, he buys her a weighted blanket and frequently handles it so it smells like him whenever she uses it.

You like, perfectly summed up what it was like having nonstop anxiety for over a month back in 2019 for me. It took me until I was on the brink of a full breakdown to actually contact my doctor and tell her my brain was messed up and I needed help getting back on track. Like get the hot glue and duct tape babes we’ve got work to do. I’m now medicated and seeing a therapist, which have done absolute wonders for me. That being said please do not forget to take care of yourself Lop! Mental and physical health should always come first, and if it helps to illustrate what you’re feeling then by all means don’t be afraid to do it. We’re here for you!

I'm really sorry you have these struggles, Lop. I also have moments when I'm inexplicably terrified by a concept, or worrying that something will go wrong with an upcoming event, so it often ends up ruining my mood for the whole thing and adding unnecessary stress to my life. But please know that you have friends and family who care about you, and will help you through your struggles as best they can. Life is difficult, but you don't have to go through it alone.

It honestly took me by surprise how much Marnie's experience mirrors mine, it actually makes me wonder if what I'm suffering is worse than I thought and I appreciate that from your work <3 It hits deep how relatable Marnie's spirals are and I want to root for her to find the self-love that she deserves to help her out of her spirals. Once you're in that spiral it can be so hard to find your way out again, the familiarity of it is just so consuming and I'm really sorry you have to endure that as well. Wishing 2023 treats you kindly <3.

*group hugs for all suffering from this disorder*

Best way I can describe this type of feeling to others is how incredibly self-frustrated you can get when you’re sitting on your bed and you are going into a flight or fight response over LITERALLY NOTHING.
