One: Don’t pick up the phone

You know he’s only callin’ ‘cause he’s drunk and alone

Carmen and Angel were (and still technically are) married. They are currently separated, and have been so for nearly a decade.

Best friends since childhood, they tied the knot in early adulthood and did their best to help each other reach their dreams- for Angel, to be a famous muralist, for Carmen, to be a legendary dancer. Despite struggling on a shaky household income, they were happy, considering each day together to be an adventure. Their daughter Primrose was unplanned, and the pregnancy was quite difficult on Carmen. Primrose was born with several health issues and a motor disability that would hinder her walking, yet for all the medical expense and worry Carmen and Angel went through, they cherished and adored their daughter more than anything. They were happy. They were a family. They were happy.

….How did it all go so wrong?

Gosh I'm so curious to know what happened between these two... I kinda wanna see one of those "ship" memes (like a big circle you drew of the Pandoraverse cast once) that shows who likes who, who has a crush on who, exes, or who just simply hates each other lol Also, I wanted to ask, is Primrose's condition in any way related to Carmen and Angel being different species or did it just happen within any regular "chance" of a kid being born with any sort of disorder/disability?

Like any trapped animal, Carmen would gnaw off her own limb to escape

It's possible, but not certain. Disability is just common in FB, just like it is in our world. Primrose was a costly child to care for, and Angel and Carmen decided to not have any more children, so they could focus all their attention and love on their teeny puppy. Secretly, however, they may have wondered if their combined genetics would result in another child that would too struggle with lifelong chronic pain- or perhaps not even survive to term, as Primrose herself nearly died during her birth.

Considering Carmen's dreams of becoming a dancer, was gynecology a career she pursued after the birth of Primrose or was she already at it when she god pregnant?

I see. I kind of asked out of curiosity to know whether you meant to imply it had any sort of relation to it, since you said it yourself, it's something that commonly happens in our world just as much. But regardless, I do see how both Carmen and Angel might have wondered if it was actually their fault, even if it wasn't because you can't possibly control or mean something like that. I know my mom does that in real life (wonders if it's her fault or her genetics that causes the issues I go through, bc I might have got it "from her")

During her troubled pregnancy and post-pregnancy, Carmen found a lot of intrigue and comfort in learning the medical science behind why she was feeling a certain way, and what steps she could take to improve the outcome for herself and her baby. It helped her feel in control at a time in her life where she'd been feeling afraid and helpless. When Primrose is born, she and Angel decide to put their arts dreams on hold and work on providing Primmy with the best childhood possible, meaning Carmen did not want her daughter growing up in a crummy apartment in a crumbling neighborhood. She sets her sights sky-high on becoming a doctor (to help women the way she herself was helped), and Angel takes on more steady work to support Carmen as she returns to school.

How old is Prim now? If her parents have been separated for nearing a decade, how much memory does she have of their life together as a family? I assume she's living primarily with Carmen- to what extent does she know about what went down between her parents/what is her perspective on that whole thing? I know it's not *totally* a comparable situation but for some reason I'm getting very strong vibes like. that one piece you did of Blueblood's imagined dream of a happy future with Trixie, way back when. Like a "what could have been" if he'd gotten his head out of his ass/a future that was beautiful but couldn't have come to pass- and how brutal and sad and deliciously complicated that whole situation was. We don't even know the extent of what happened between Angel and Carmen and I'm already hurting for them- and excited to see what happens as you choose to reveal more~

Ahhh thank you! :3 Primrose is 12 years old, so she has very little memory of her family being whole and happy together. She does indeed live with Carmen, though her dad takes her every so often to spend an awkward weekend together. She and Angel are nearly strangers, he was not in her life for a long, long period, and when he finally reappeared he was very dead set on picking up where they left off as if their years apart never happened. Prim is kinda….angry about this. She’s a sweet, thoughtful child, but the topic of her father will piss her off in a heartbeat. Prim doesn’t know the whole story, but she does know that Angel brought a lot of heartache to her mother and made Carmen’s life much more difficult than he had any right to. Primrose REALLY loves her mom, she considers her mom a hero, confidante, and close friend, so she gets real defensive and hostile about Angel skulking around threatening to fuck up the loving, beautiful home that Carmen worked so hard to build for them. Angel meanwhile loves his daughter (and he never stopped loving Carmen), but he struggles to relate to her, and he’s more bothered than he’d admit by her refusal to let her walls down around him. Would probably help if he apologized for how he shattered their family all those years ago, but he feels an apology wouldn’t amount to anything more than insulting empty words, so he doesn’t bother. Prim meanwhile actually does crave an apology and for her father to actually BE a consistent presence in her life, rather than his fumbling, kinda pathetic attempts to bond with her, but he’s too caught up in the past to do this. Angel WANTS to be a good father (…and husband), he wants this more than anything. But the fact is, he is not. He’s made choices that have affected all three of their lives, and there is no simple way to fix any of it.
