Skye and Jupe discuss what tf he was thinking dating Bruce. Turns out Jupe wasn’t thinking much at all!

boop, adding a few notes:

-As a culture, canines are prone to using possessive language- Skye refers to Bruce as “my Bruce” because she either considers him part of her pack or sufficiently pack-adjacent

-Licking (particularly in carnivores) is on the same level as kissing in FB, and usually done privately between lovers or very close friends. Jupe makes a miscalculation in the comic, what he thought would read as “flirty” was construed by Bruce as fucking gross

-on the last page, top right panel, it kinda disrupted the story flow when I originally wrote *mauling sounds* above Bruce and Jupe going at it. But yeah, imagine like, the most insane devil snarls/fox yowling/carnivore murder sounds there and then understand why Bruce and Jupe’s poor unaware herbivore neighbors called the cops on them twice

I love these sketch comics. Also I don't blame how forever this took, comics are SO hard. Maybe Jupe didn't get that pass in calculus, but he still got something. At least for a little while

1) I have been dying to see coworkers!Skye and Jupe and I'm excited to get to see a glimpse of that! 2) I SEE YOU LEAH IN JUPE'S TEXTS. were they friends in university oh my gosh 3) I am viewing this late at night and therefore late night emotions actually got me tearing up over the last bit... Jupe still feeling sad/wondering if Bruce actually cared about him as more than an assigned study partner... nooo Jupe it WAS meaningful ahh- I do love getting to see more of Jupe's thoughts on their relationship! Though it does make me desperately crave to see some kind of reunion between them. Perhaps a planned hangout with Skye and Sunny that winds up more emotionally charged than either of them would care to admit. Or maybe Skye and Sunny decide to try parent trap them hahah, who's to say (I don't know that they would actually do this but goodness is it a funny mental image)

I was going for something fanservicey with Bruce in those shots but honestly all I can think about is him saying “three damn weeks" the exact same way that fish in spongebob said “it took us THREE DAYS to make that potato salad, buddy! THREE DAYS!!”

Leah and Jupe were/are friends! :3 They still run in the same social circles and frequently call on each other for favors and cross-promotion. Jupe and Skye are coworkers/work friends, buuuut they’re steadily becoming genuine friends that hang out outside of work. Funny thing is if Skye called Sunny up to organize some convoluted harebrained “parent trap” between Bruce and Jupiter he would do it with no questions asked. He and Skye are both dumb meddling dogs that would ABSOLUTELY do that to Bruce if they felt it could work. Bruce had a pretty shitty time growing up and the damage continues to manifest as an adult. As a kid he quickly learned to stifle his emotions, good and bad, sooo yeah. His default facial expression is “scowl” and he has a difficult time being soft or vulnerable or showing that he cares. It means the only friends he makes are people who are fairly determined to get to know him (Priscilla, Sunny, to an extent Skye). This was bad news for his relationship with Jupe, because Bruce’s “I’m having a genuinely good time face” looks a lot like his “I’m currently suffering from constipation” face. He bites back his laughter when he’s amused, he’s often sarcastic and snappish when he doesn’t mean to be. Jupe often felt Bruce was just humoring him, or putting up with him, and in the beginning that was true. But Bruce did quickly come to enjoy and even secretly welcome Jupe’s company. I (really) hope it was clear in the comic that Bruce expressed affection in easy-to-miss ways, like pulling a blanket over partied-out Jupe, or leaning on him sometimes the way irl dogs lean on their humans. :3

I absolutely don't blame you for the exhaustion, I think I've yet to complete a single comic in the dozens I've started since 2006 or so. 😅 Either way, I love how natural your characters look when emoting, I still have trouble with that. Like, Skye's faces are top tier. Also, um, yeah, maybe me too a little there with that kink, Jupe. 🥴

Soft yearning, oblivious to feelings while they are together physically. The line between casual and romantic… you write this shit brilliantly. I think the repressed-but-subtle affection shown by Bruce definitely came across in this! Those panels made me smile :) Has living with heart-on-his-sleeve Sunny done anything to make Bruce a bit more comfortable with his emotions, at all? Or does he get a bit overwhelmed by all the Dog Excitement he's living with (or some middle ground between the two~) ?

Thanks! I appreciate your comments. :3 Though you are making me realize I’ve actually shown painfully few interactions between Bruce and Sunny. :( Good question! I think I’d like to answer this through a drawing. If I can be saccharine for a moment, Sunny is still Stormy at his core. He’s the sunshine that breaks through Bruce’s surly dark skies. Bruce is a very guarded character because he’s been hurt and abandoned and made to fear growing close with people. He’s built a barbed wire fence around his heart. Know what dogs do to fences? They dig under ‘em! >:3

Jupe looks sad talking about Bruce on the last page. Are there still some lingering feelings there? How would they react to meeting up again?
