I had a bunch of honey scribble-sketches lying around, so I tidied some up

1.) cluster of doodles, featuring honey trying to get her college queer-friendly neoconservative organization off the ground. It’s not going well, the only people interested in signing up aren’t so queer-friendly, it turns out

(maybe summer will swing by and steal a lemon bar to scarf)

2.) keep your filthy fucking paws away from skye’s handsome man-some, homewrecker

3-4.) Honey, feeling eternally lonely and misunderstood, reaches out to her estranged older brothers, Topher and Toffee. Both are her father’s sons from his previous marriage, both have long fallen out of his good graces. Merry never made any attempt to bridge his two families and was content to largely abandon his boys and old life to marry Honey’s mother. And so they very much resent him, resent his new wife, and (in Topher’s case), resent Honey.

Toffee, the eldest brother, is a kindly theological scholar. He never found it in himself to abandon his faith, instead founding a small church of his own that welcomes and accepts people of all sexualities and gender identities, removing sermons of judgment and damnation and instead focusing on teaching love and aiding the poor. Toffee is close with his little brother and often calls on him for help within his church.Topher, the younger brother, has completely rejected their childhood religion. He claims to be an anarchist, but this is a lie, really he’s entirely focused on taking down unjust social hierarchies and institutions. He is often frustrated with the inefficiency of progressive politics and advocates for total social revolution on his radio show. He’s often rude and doesn’t give a single shit about playing nice with fascists. Respect trans kids or Topher will beat you with a baseball bat.

Topher is all-too-aware of Honey’s smug antagonistic online personality, and has many things to say he’s been waiting to say to her.

I. Love Honey and her lemon bars and I am SO excited to see more of Toffee and Topher 😭 I want to know so much. What do they do for jobs? Do either of them have partners? What was their first time meeting Honey like?

Queenie

I also love how Toffee has taken after Merry more with his glasses and his aesthetic and general calm vibe, while Topher has swung completely opposite, and Honey has a mix of both!

WAr

Has honey met her brothers more than once or was there just one disasterous meeting and that’s that?

lopoddity

Toffee is a church leader and philanthropist, Topher is a DJ/radio personality/activist. Still deciding on if Toffee has a partner (I do know he’s gay). Topher doesn’t want a committed relationship with anyone but will sleep with anything that moves. Their first time meeting Honey was similar to the above scene. Honey was a newborn, Topher was a surly kid, Toffee was a teenager quite taken with his baby sister but unsure how to feel about his father seeming to favor her

lopoddity

They’ve met only a handful of times, usually during big family events. For example, Merry attended Toffee’s college graduation and brought Honey along, but she didn’t really get a chance to talk to either brother long. Merry made no effort to foster a relationship between his kids, and his his boys grew up and started to disappoint him, he actively kept Honey away from them and their influence.

I’m kinda curious about the proportion of LGBTQ folk in Fuzzbutts? Is it similar to how it is in America? Or is there a larger/smaller amount of LGBTQ animals?

lopoddity

They’re a social minority, same as in America. We just happen to be following an extremely queer cast.:3

MEllegoo

Hahaha nah that’s totally valid. I know that you like to focus on queer characters due to you being part of the community. I was just curious if FB universe was just a bit more diverse than ours

Bigsmile

Maaaan... Why you gotta make me feel bad for Honey, that Lemon bars pic hit me in my feels organ. And as much as I kinda grew past my edgy atheist phase, personalities like Topher really helped me realize my own lack of belief. Hope Toffee reaches out to Honey, she needs some kindness and proper direction.

Get her Topher

Res Hound

Topher is already one of my favorites. l can see how he got estranged, but I am soooo curious about Toffee.

I can't wait to see the brothers in color and to learn more about them. I'm excited to see more interactions between the brothers and Honey. Like what did she say to make Topher that mad?

Corinne Stephenson

Summer and Honey end up dating and they run into Topher. Honey expects it to be yet another antagonistic encounter but Summer recognizes him from his podcasts and Topher recognizes her from her (accidental) online presence mostly made up of people taking pictures of her at rallies and being a menace. They get along amazingly. Instant bros, best pals, BFFs forever. Honey is so confused.

Melody Williamson

Yessss new favorite character the Destiny-esque debate bro dog 🤣

Melody Williamson

Ok I read his description hes not too destiny-y. Maybe the older brother is kinda similar to Beau of the Fifth Column though. I'm sorry I'm comparing all of them to real youtubers its just how I connect with them 😭

Toffee: Remember, Topher, we haven’t seen our little sister in nearly a decade. Let’s, er, leave politics at the door this evening, alright? It’s just a few hours. Topher: Pfft, yeah, whatever, okay. I can play nice for one night, Toff. Relax. Honey: Hi! :) Topher: TRAITOR BOOTLICKER BITCH

lopoddity

He’s pissed because she expects them to feel sorry for HER. She came to them hoping they’d coddle her and listen to her woes, her worries that her community will never accept her because she’s a lesbian, and isn’t that just so unfair? But all Topher hears is “I’m fine aligning myself with a community that enjoys creating and enforcing unjust laws and hierarchies, but draw the line where I am personally affected”. Like….bitch??? Have you zero empathy for anyone besides yourself???? Topher thinks Honey is a monster and I think I might not have captured the extent of his anger there. Like if Honey were a guy, Topher might’ve decked her on principle

Charlie

I'm sorry but "do NOT fuck my nemesis!" is one of the funniest things I've read in a while. X'D

arcadia

great job making honey so despicable!! i hate her with every fiber of my being 💗

Marta Tarasiuk

Okay, so I know that in the original version of the story (way back when Skye was completely different) she and Sunny were meant to break up in order to make space for Bruce... But I swear to God, if you brake them up, I'll riot! They are so precious together!

arcadia

aww, you’re right… can’t let those go to waste! *grabs the whole tray and gives the middle finger to honey while walking away*

lopoddity

Honey, sniffling: S-so much for the "tolerant left"....

I feel both Toffee and Topher in my heart and I love them <3 I like the idea that Topher helps out all the time with the church, so while he's a big cranky‐pants, the congregation as a whole love him - he's had to learn how to accept gifts and compliments (with an embarrassed grumble? Or maybe a genuine smile, even?) Which - when the church does a charity event and Honey swings by, innocently thinking she'll help patch things up by donating some baked goods, he's of course the first to be suspicious... I'm also on team "let Toffee be married!" It feels like it would be just another reason for their father not to want to deal with him - not only is Toffee some soft-hearted fool who's barely scraping by because all the tithes are going to *poor people*, he's also personally making a mockery of the church by being *gay.* Maybe he's even married outside his species! The shame!

FloweryFruitFangs

As always I love your characters, worldbuilding, and storytelling. It's interesting how Merry's children are all queer, and either don't follow his religious standards properly, or outright refuse to practice said religion in the case of Topher, how unfortunate for a fake-nice bigot such as himself.... I wonder, was that part of the reason he threw his first two kids/first marriage to the side so quickly? One last (failed) chance to have a "good traditional marriage" and sire a straight kid? Bleh I feel a little gross just typing this out, but I wouldn't put it past Merry from what we know about him so far.

lopoddity

Thank you! I imagine Merry did see “the signs” of queerness in his elder teen son Toffee (soft-spoken, empathetic and caring, uninterested in sports) and was making efforts to correct this, forcing chubby, noncompetitive Toffee into aggressive team sports, trying to steer him toward girls, etc. Toffee tried to endure it all, but was clearly miserable, and Merry was about a step away from sending him off to one of those “camps” that promised to turn little sissy boys into manly men. After all, Toffee needed to have all that degeneracy wrung out of him if he was going to take over Merry’s church some day. But then Merry met his foxy young new assistant Maple and began a whirlwind affair with her, ultimately abandoning his family to marry her. This left Toffee to ponder which was worse, being the constant object of his father’s disdainful scrutiny, or watching his father turn 100% of his attention over to his new wife and baby. Toffee feels relief, but it’s mixed in with pain, a feeling like somehow this was all his fault. Topher was often overlooked by Merry, as he was never very athletic and didn’t get good grades like Toffee did. Merry reprimanded him here and there, but was far more focused on fixing his embarrassment of an older son, which meant Topher became more and more rebellious trying to catch his father’s attention. Topher was furious (and secretly devastated) when their father left. Merry meanwhile tries not to think about his sons any more than he strictly has to, he is quite content now with his hot new wife and loyal, dutiful daughter. He’s gentler with Honey than he was with his boys, a sort of benevolent sexism. He assures her her lesbianism is just a phase some girls go through, she’ll be happy when she finally lands a good husband and has a few puppies of her own. Between Toffee (gay), Topher (pansexual hedonist), and Honey (“just a little confused” in Merry’s opinion), Merry would like to walk SOMEBODY down the aisle before he dies (and he really wants Honey to make him a grandpa)

AsTheJayFlies

ooooo topher aroallo?? fuck yes!!

lopoddity

It may be more that he doesn't like to let people close because deep down he feels unlovable. Random hookups make him feel alive and unattached, but I think he probably has a few consistent sexual partners (inc at least one married couple) whose homes he floats in and out of like well....a stray dog

FROSTBURNE

are we gonna see Toffee and Topher's mother? Merry's unfaithfulness (lol) during their marriage makes me feel sorry for the poor lady (I'm also high-key hoping she found love again)

lopoddity

Probably not, unfortunately. :/ Normally I would, but I have SO many dog characters already. Skye, Sunny, Shadow, Summer, Soup, Snowball, Saint, Strawberry, Gigi, Honey, Merry, Maple, Toffee, Topher, Biscuit, Buddy…..gaaah. So many dogs! And so many of them need further fleshing out. It’s not a good use of time to whip up a story and design for yet another dog. Toffee and Topher’s mom is a class act, a tough and tiny lady that managed to raise decent boys with barely any help from Merry. Rather than draw her, I’d rather explore the sibling relationships between Honey, Topher, and Toffee.

FROSTBURNE

that's fair. I've seen my fair share of bloated casts with characters that didn't have any meaningful roles in their respective stories, so I think you made the right call here. this probably goes without saying, but I am seriously impressed that you have so many great characters. I am super invested in what you're gonna make next!

AsTheJayFlies

me, a year and a half later, utterly delighted: so that was a fucking lie <3 (im so glad we got to meet ellie and look forward to seeing more of her and her interactions with neith!!)
