I don't think I've ever seen a piece of concept art for a character and said "Perfect. 10/10. No notes. Don't change a thing!" before. And then I saw Toffee's husband <3 P.S. I don't know why but I think Bob would be a great name for him (Bob the Builder [Beaver]). What he lets people call him indicates how he feels about them. If you're a stranger/near-stranger, or he doesn't really like you (Honey), then you will refer to him as Robert. Close acquaintances or friends (Topher) may call him Bob. Family and a very select few may use the name Bobby. ONLY TOFFEE MAY EVER REFER TO HIM WITH THE PET NAME BOBBY-BOO (and only behind closed doors; if the other guys on the construction yard caught wind of the name he'd never hear the end of it)

Dude...this is literally my Uncle Hannibal (yes that was his name). He's was a stocky and crotchety fart who griped about how "people don't got no goddamn sense nowadays". He was one of those "back in my day" dudes. He cooked a mean swedish meatball and worked construction.

He's literally the exact opposite of Toffee and I LOVE it. I LIVE IT. I look at this big burly beaver and can only think of the names Conrad, Bruno, or Heath.

I'd also like to add how somehow, it made me feel happy and kind of warm and fuzzy inside to see this kind of character represented in a queer relationship. I feel like people would easily have portrayed this sort of personality as some sort of "homophobic uncle" of sorts. It just feels so nice to see him like this.

Thank you! He’s very much inspired by the character Gus from the show Mission Hill (they share the design trait of never opening their eyes). I just love the idea of a gruff tough guy being a total softie in unexpected ways. Toffee’s husband has a million soft nicknames for Toffee (eg. beautiful, baby, beanpole) and encourages Topher’s music in a way nobody ever has and was 100% ready to be fatherly and kind to Honey and call her sweetheart and make her pancakes, but she makes it kinda difficult

I was trying to dig from the depths of my memory what other though looking characters with thick brows and "closed eyes" I was trying to remember and realized I thought of Flint Lockwood's dad from cloudy with a chance of meatballs xD Man I'm so happy these kids (Toph and Honey at least) are actually getting a chance at something similar to a decent fatherly figure from Toffee's hubby. Which made me actually wonder, what was Toffee's life with his dad when it was only him before Topher was born (since they have a bit of an age gap) was he more like his father in his beliefs and perhaps only changed when Toph came around?

I really love this short beaver man! He looks adorable and seeing Toffee’s little tail wag is sooo cute. I saw another commenter mention this but I also support Bob as his name, so he can be Bob the builder. Looks like honey has met a lot of that side of her family in spite of her father. Has Honey ever met Toffee and Topher’s mom? Also has Mr Beaver man ever met Merry?

I vote for his name to be Clayton. Clayton S. Riversbank, owner of his own construction company, and it was his pappy's before it was his. He and Toffee met while he was fixing some structural damage in Toffee's church. The second he smiled that buck-toothed smile at Toffee, he knew he had to have that big burly rodent for his own

Oooh I can see them meeting when Toffee was having his church built/fixed up. Hiring a contractor then finding more and more little things for him to fix around the church then later his house and confessions are made and kisses are had

I always see honey and think “omg she’s so cute” and then remember she’s one of those Young Republican types 😭 I know she’ll probably come around eventually but man is it a bummer. Also Topher is an icon

ahhh, what a cutie! Don't take this the wrong way, but I'm happy he's not a dog! I love all the dog characters but there are so many weird and wonderful animals to use!

I love oddball couple dynamics (probably because I live one) and I have Thoughts: No one ever expects them to be together, much less married, which is hilarious because they're seen together pretty often. Toffee has heard every confused reason why they shouldn't be together, starting from "Aren't priests not supposed to get married?" To "He's into men???" His personal favorite was from a younger kid - "But you're too tall to kiss him!" Topher is a little relieved that Toffee found someone who could be the stern half - not that Toff can't care for himself, but Toph worries sometimes that someone will take advantage of his brother's kind nature. While this *is* the case (do not try to scam Toffee in front of this man), this also happens shortly before Toph finds our beaver man also being a massive softy to some of the church members. Couples packs of chew bones and sticks *everywhere*. Learning to accommodate an herbivorous diet in new ways. A decent number of beaver guy's co-workers come to Toffee's church. Which - he might have been able to buy an old, run-down building to house the congregation (and tbh store half the stuff he'd use for outreach) and it gets fixed up weekend by weekend in exchange for pancakes and coffee.

I love this Beaver guy and his bushy brows! I'm a big opposites attract fan and I also love how their jobs align. Like Toffee's is about building a community and Beaver guy's is about building places (that could house communities).

I'm glad too. :3 Dogs are an easy default for me to fall into designing characters because they're easy to draw and there's SO many breeds. Trying to force myself out of my comfort zone tho. For this guy I also considered him being a crocodile, badger, or woolly rhinoceros!

I love his personality and Beavers are my country’s national treasure along with moose! What if…he was a crocodile?? Or another character could be a croc? I love the fuzzy animals but maybe we could have more scaly beasts?

I considered croc for him, but ultimately I couldn't resist a beaver working in construction. I do have a character planned that will be a saltwater croc, tho ;3

Oh yes, I love all of this 💗💗💗 I had an idea that when they first get together, burly beaver guy spends a lot of time in his garage working on some mysterious woodworking project and Toffee’s very keen to learn what it is. Then lightly disappointed when his beaver beau reveals it’s just an ordinary regulation stepladder. Then absolutely delighted when his beau climbs the ladder and reveals he built it so he can finally be tall enough to grab and dip Toffee for a big romantic movie-style kiss

Red Foreman? Nah. He'll call out dumbassery when he sees it, but he's not the type to make violent remarks to a girl nearly half his age. "Perky ass" sounds kinda sexually loaded/misogynistic and it's definitely not what I'm going for. I based him off the character Gus from Mission Hill. Surly, but ultimately sweet and thoughtful.

I love all the dog characters you have but yeah there are legit 20 of them sunny and skye and their families alone make 10, toff toph honey merry maple, gigi and gio and madeline and angel and prim - such a full cast of lovely (and not so lovely) dogs! it *is* really nice to have more diverse species tho. I love bob the beaver builder
