Hey Artnerds!

This year, I decided to make acrylic ornaments!

Aren't these cute? These printed acrylic ornaments were printed AND lasercut by Ponoko!

These are now up in my online shop:

Louisiana Flavor

Mushrooms

Flora

You might remember that in years past, I've done DIY papercraft ornaments

and handpainted wooden watercolor ornaments

While I love making ornaments and selling them at shows, I kinda burnt myself out with the watercolor ornaments last year. It is a LOT of labor to hand-paint so many ornaments, and I wanted to be able to offer original art ornaments at a price point that people could afford.

This year, I wanted to do some fun, brightly colored ornaments that I could take with me to comic cons and craft fairs. While playing around with the Simptap Acrylic markers, I felt inspired to do a series of designs for ornaments.

I wanted something a little different from my usual art style, with bold, bright colors and fairly simple designs. Something that could stand out on a Christmas tree, or be hung in a window year round.

I knew I wanted to do printed acrylic ornaments, but I struggled to find a company I was comfortable working with until Joseph discovered that Ponoko, the company we've used to cut our wood charms, now handles UV printing. I cleaned up and adjusted the files in Photoshop, Joseph did the cut out lines in Illustrator, and the files were sent off for cutting.

I'm really happy with how these turned out, and with a little loop of velvet they're ready to hang.I'd hoped to debut them at a local show called Grinchmas put on by a local plant nursery, but that was a bust. I'm still really hyped for these ornaments and hope they'll have a chance to shine soon!
