Art Supplies I've Loved to Death (Patreon)
Content
This is not an inclusive list, but I wanted to share a few of my favorites that live on or around my drafting table.
My Daily Driver Palette
Homemade to hold ALL my favorite paints, and regularly refilled from tubes, my daily driver watercolor palette sees a lot of use, and a lot of refills. It may not be pretty, but this recycled and repainted Derwent pencil tin gets the job done!
Tubes of White Gouache
The caps for my two tubes of white gouache have disappeared a long time ago, and the gouache is dry, but that doesn't seem to stop me! I just squirt some clean water from my Klein bottle, let it soak in, and dip in with a brush. Somehow..this seems less wasteful than squirting out glops of white gouache just for a couple highlights.
Well Used Mechanical Pencils, Pencil Extenders, and Pencil Grips
The modification means it's mine! Some of these grips are from the Dollar Store, some are from Amazon or educational stores, but all mean I can get more use out of my pencils without wrecking my hands. That Pentel Icy is cracked and falling apart, and yet, I still love it, and I've been using the same couple white plastic Muji .5mm mechanical pencils for years. And as someone who likes to do prelim sketches (and class materials) in Blick color pencil, pencil extenders are a must! I believe this is an inexpensive General's pencil extender from...when I was in highschool.
Brushpens & Cushion Grips
This one's a Use it Til It's Dry (and then maybe still use it a little for fine lines). Although these are disposable brushpens, I use them constantly and keep em around until they can't ink anymore.
Da Vinci Watercolor Palette
I still can't find my Qor mini palette, which has also been refilled multiple times.
Gotta love when the pans are filled using the same paint as the tubes, making refills easy and very 1:1.
Watercolor Brushes with Medical Tape Grips
These brushes aren't really distinct or unique, so it may be easy to overlook the fact that I grab the same favorite brushes time and time again. Medical tape has made long painting sessions so much easier on my grip.
Also shown- a VERY used cake of Old Master's brush soap- this is what I use to clean and condition my watercolor brushes!
Faber Castell Click n Go Paint Cups and Paint Pucks
Not a sight you see often- the inside of my water cup! At the bottom, a paint puck (this is the revised version with holes, so it doesn't mildew, the older version was migrated to my acrylics setup, because that gets cleaned immediately and is used less often, so it's less likely to mildew). I've been using the same Clic n Go clips for years, until one busted a hole in the side, and had to be tossed. This is the sole remaining twin.
Masking Fluid
Masking fluid sees a lot of use from me, but has a tendency to spoil quick, so I decant it into little dollar store jars so it doesn't spoil as fast. This makes it easier to keep on my desk, prevents spililng, and means I get more out of each bottle before it hardens or rots.
