Hey Artnerds!

This week I've been workin' hard on bonus illustrations for Volume 2.  A lotta designing, sketching, and watercolor have been happenin' around here, and I still have so many more to do!

In The Paintbox, I've been trying to participate in Daily Drawing...on the daily.  My goal is to get two 5 minute figure sketches finished, and I often try to sketch a few heads or animals.  Sometimes I manage to get them up on the Discord, sometimes not, but I've been prioritizing getting those warmup sketches in.  If you're looking for a little accountability in your daily drawing routine, why not pop in and share some of what you've been working on?

In the upcoming week, I've got two classes here in Nashville!  My 10 year olds are starting figure drawing on Tuesday, and on Saturday, I'm teaching a watercolor for comics and illustration class at Plaza Artist Materials.  That reminds me, I need to put together a portfolio for that class!

It's a brand new month, so keep an eye out for your February Sketchbook and Backer Rewards!

Hi Becca! I didn't notice a separate post for your newest My Life With ADHD video (mentioned in this newsletter, so I thought I would add my comments here :) I watched several of the series' previous videos, mostly to see how you schedule and organize your work. And, of course, it is something that is clearly important in your life and I was interested in learning more. I really like how you talk in detail in your videos about how ADHD and the effect it has on the way you do things and the way you respond to the world (I hope that sounds how I mean it...) I was recently diagnosed with ADHD and the timing of your new video is so apropos!

Meant to add (I don't think I can edit) - that I loved your review of the Happy Planner. I 100% fully agree with you regarding the "fake lean-in" vibe that a lot of the covers have. That comment in particular made me laugh so hard. As you mentioned, they really should branch out because overall, their product seems reasonably priced and of good quality. There is no need to stick to twee messages etc. that seems only geared to a certain aesthetic/vibe. Anyway, with your review in mind I went to Michael's and they are 50% off as you mentioned. They actually had a couple with less offensive covers/titles. I took a pic of mine and the extra paper I bought; however, I don't think I can add a pic to my comment on Patreon. I got the Happy Planner with the gold monstera and the title "Hello 2020" on the cover. It's quite pretty. I like the inside because it has a vertical hourly daily layout and a monthly layout, which I already know works for me - I have been using loose printer paper to schedule my day since early December. Clearly having random loose paper to keep track of yourself is not the greatest idea for someone with ADHD. Anyway, thank you for all the effort you put into all of your ADHD videos and in your planner review. In your videos, you are so honest and say things that probably a lot of other people experience and are afraid to say/don't have a platform with which to say it. So I appreciate your sincerity that is always 100% there in all your videos.

Hey Melanie! I love looking at other people's stationery/ organizational tools, so if you're comfortable, I'd love it if you shared it in The Paintbox (https://discord.gg/Sbg6C8d) . Welcome to the ADHD club! I know I really labor under this delusion that 'if I could just get my life together...' my life would be so much better, so I hope your diagnosis not only brings you some peace of mind, but if you need/want it some exterior help. Going it alone is exhausting, and I'm always happy when friends come back with a diagnosis, because it means they can start making some life improving changes! I figure if I put those comments/complaints out there, at least the suggestion is available should a company wish to take it. I really think that's a huge missed market, but after recording that video, I found out there's more generic arc ring binders available. That said, I think something like plants (like your green monstera cover- that sounds so peaceful!) or maybe graphics of animals could appeal to a wider audience and feel less gendered, while still being cute and fun to use!
